Thanks, Dee! They ARE going well. I'm still not 100%, but SOOOO much better than I was 4 weeks ago. I only miss one or 2 now, as opposed to half like I was getting at the beginning.

I am having baby withdrawals. I can't wait to get back to painting them! I'm sorta wishing I'd brought a kit with me so I could paint while I'm here.

Kim, sorry it took so long to get back to you. You probably forgot what question you posted for me by now lol.
Yes, that hair on the hyde should be enough to root Kira, but you can also mix other hair or colors with it if you like. Especially if you root thickly like I used to do.
As far as getting the hair off the hyde... just separate the amount you need at a time, then take a sharp sissors and cut the bunch way down at the hyde, holding firm on the bunch you have separated. Then just remove it. There should be very little if any waste with that hair hun. And once you get all or most of the hair cut from the hyde, you can observe the rooting pattern on it. Yes, even goats have a directional rooting lol. It's actually pretty cool looking after you cut all the hair as close to the hyde as you can get it. It makes lots of directions and swirls :D

Oh awesome!! Thanks for responding, and yes, I had forgotten that I asked that. LOL

Since I started stripping her color, I haven't had another chance to get back to her. I'm gonna make a total update post soon.

Ok, kool hun. Sorry you have to strip her back. Just make sure not to rub hard on the vinyl as you can make shiny spots that might not hold paint. Can you just wash the ADP with soap and water, or do you have to use a thinner? IDK as I haven't used mine yet.

They can't be just washed off. So that's a good thing. I do look forward to getting her finished, because I'd really like to sell one...I have several that I'd like to work on.

IMHO those ADP are a strange lot... scratch off but don't wash off? Hmmm. Its rather strange that even with the sealer they are still not so permanent according to what you have said. I'm going to have to test mine on a playdoll as soon as I am able. Keep us posted on this journey hun.

I'm back at home! I graduate from my class tonight!! ACK! I'm slightly nervous.

I finally finished stripping Kyra, and washed her thoroughly with baby shampoo and warm water. The benefit to stripping back is that I don't have to worry much about creases, because they're pretty well defined with all the previous paint. I have to admit, I'm looking forward to repainting.

Question though, should I use some sort of "base" coat? I was thinking maybe a baby skin coat at first, before I start with my darker flesh colors. And I seem to recall somewhere someone using a matte finish or something to make sure the paint adheres. Any thoughts on that?

I think I'm not gonna use them again....Not sure. I may still try again, but the fact that they still scratched off after sitting for WEEKS? Yeah....not sure about using them again.

I need to get some motivation to paint...

Maybe you're right about starting a new one.

I wish I COULD use my oven. I made a post about it a long time ago when I joined (it's in the new members Welcome thread) but here's a recap.

I have birds. I have a co ckatiel (Merlin - I had to space it so it wouldn't bleep it out. lol), a Blue and Gold macaw (Vincent), an African Grey (Dorian), and a Blue-front Amazon named Maggie. I don't DARE use my oven for fear of fumes. Seeing as how birds are sooooo susceptible to them, it could kill them before I know it's a problem. I don't have the money right now (just finished clinicals, still looking for a real job. lol) to get a convection oven, nor do I have the space to store one. My only option is the heat gun.

I know it sounds like a lot of excuses, and I know about heat guns causing shinies, and I really wish I could use an oven. My hands get tired easily with the weight of the heat gun, and I do worry about not getting the paint cured properly.

This is why I was using ADP. I'd really rather use them, but maybe the ones I have are old, or something went wrong BEFORE painting to make it not work correctly.

At any rate. That's my story. :)

Kim, I think the best motivation for you would be a fresh start with a new kit and new paints. Kyra can wait till you "get in the zone" :)

You won't regret using GHSP, I'm sure of it. And, don't be afraid to put the doll in the oven. It's saving so much time and you'll be sure that the paint has cured. You can't be 100%sure with a heatgun that all parts have been "covered", and it's very easy to "overbake" the doll and make it shiny or even melt some parts (yeah, been there!).

I know you can do it! *hugs*

I have a rotisserie oven...but I use that...sometimes.

Right now, it's just not in the finances to get another one. I WISH I had an extra room built on to the house, outside, so I could install a small electric oven in a craft room.

God. I need to win the lottery.

Dee, this is Dorian when he was younger. That bird is a trip. I need to catalog his vocabulary, but it's fairly extensive....along with a few words we wish he didn't say. LOL

Might have to look into that, Donna. Might be awhile before I could get one, but it's worth a look, for sure.

Could set up a card table outside and bake when it's nice, or the garage if it's not.
