WOW. . . this is a wonderful project. . . and even a chat forum to boot. . .

I went to Hobby Lobby today to get fabric to make my grand daughter a rag doll for her birthday. I went to the doll craft aisle and lo and behold. . . there was Zoie. .

I just wish I would have found her sooner so I could make some clothes for her as well. The birthday is Sunday. . .

I thought the DVD was good, very informative. But now that I am actually doing it it isn't as easy as it looks.  I can't seem to get enough color on the lips and eyes. Maybe I am taking too much off with the sponge before I use the mud brush, I'm not sure. I surely don't want a goopy mess. Any advice here please.

After I get it somewhat how I want and then bake it, is it possible to go back over the same area again to deposit more color?

So far I have only done the face, I started with the hardest part ofcoarse.

After looking at the pictures here I notice the color on my face is more orange-y than pink-y. It's OK, tho I think she's going to be lovely.

What size pattern do you buy to make clothes, or do they sell patterns? Can you root hair on the Zoie doll or do you have to have a certain doll for that?

Thanks for your help in advance. . .I love LOVE this new found hobby.

Debi

Newborn, premie size, over in Australia, 00000, or 0000 in baby cloths fit Zoe realy nice. As Ashley said you can layer you paints make sure you mix them thinly, it doesn't matter how many you put on, it's a bit like putting make up on.If you want the new born look you can mottle it with you skin tone one layer and a bit of the Dioxazine Purple 04. If your baby is orangy, you could put some lith layers of Phthalo Green 06, with your flesh tone, to make a mint wash, this nuetralises the orange. Others may have a different method. Some of the ladies put up to 10 layers on untill they achieve the colour they like. Hope this helps. XXXXX June.

Welcome to our family forum Debi! You'll like it here. Everyone is nice, and very helpful. We also have a "search" feature that you can just type your word(s) into and it will bring up the topic threads for you to see what others have done. Be sure if you post pics you only put them in the artist showcase, links to your pics in all other topic/threads.

With the heat-set paints you can do many thin layers to build your color as June and Ashley said. Just be sure to bake each time you paint a layer, lips, etc as the paint never becomes permanent until you bake. Also, have a good thermometer in your oven, and bake for the time and temp it says. Search the forum for "color correction" and you will find lots of threads on the subject.

Zoe is one of my favorites, I'm glad you like her/him. As June said, you can buy clothing for the 17" babies in preemie size in the USA or the size she said if you live in Australia. You can also find several patterns for that size. Usually in the crafts/toys section or the preemie baby section of the pattern catalogs.
