i just got to see the new rooting and painting dvds put out by a couple of very talented ladies in the uk. the painting on was nice and the best eyebrow tutorial i've seen . the rooting one was terrific , it realy showed you how to do the swirl step by step . it showed you rooting from the middle and the end. i can't realy say it was worth the 150.00 she paid for them but they did teach me some stuff. that i'll be useing on future babies.........sage
Hummmm I wondered if it was worth the money. I want to get the dvd's but I'd hate to fork out the money only to find (as I have in the past many times) that they show me nothing new. At least nothing that I won't learn with more practice.
What do you think.....did you really learn anything new? What about the skin tones? Did they show any new techniques or tips on mixing??
Emily... have you gotten the "Special Reborn Encyclopedia"? That has some different techniques. I think that is definately worth the money. I don't know that "I" would spend that kind of money... $150? Wholey smokes! But hey, we do what we must to make our babies right?
Hummmm $150 is pretty steep That's why I haven't forked out the money for the PLBD video. Hummm I don't know.....I'll have to see with the sale of my next babies. If they do well I may Powwow season is fast approaching and my cousins already let me know they want us there this year more than last so.........My boys need new buckskins since they've grown so much (my middle son grew 2.5" in the las two weeks!!!).
I will definately look into it though....I feel like I'm in a rut for progress. I do want to learn some more on mottling techniques and of course rooting.....Hummm let's see....Thanks so much for the info
Hey Em! Powwow season already? I thought it was a little bit early. But if you gotta get new buckskins, its better to start now and hopefully they won't grow out of these new ones to quickly. @ 1/2 inches is a lot for that short of time, wow!
I have buckskin that I am saving to do traditional dressings on one of my babies. That one will be a keeper though. All hand done beadwork, moccasins too! I will do one Sioux, one Chippewa, and now a new one (in honor of my granddaughter to be) Cherokee. One for each family if I have enough skins. I am having trouble finding much printed on Oglala Lakota Sioux beadwork. It's all glommed in with the plains Indians. Only a design or two. I may have to ask one of the elders.
You should put some of the buckskins on our showcase. I'd love to see them. :)
My hubbies side is Sioux and German (Blonde hair blue eyed Sioux)! My side is Chippewa and Irish (dark bodies, black hair and white legs!). And my personal side with my daughters baby... Italian, German, Irish, Scottish, Swedish, Norweigan, Mexican, and Cherokee (don't know what she'll look like till she's born). We got united nations here folks hahaha She'll probaby have coal black hair as my daughter is dark haired and the dad has black hair, I had coal black when I was born. We'll have to see!
LOL yes many nations indeed! I hope you find the beadwork your looking for...I know it can be hard. We are Northeastern and ours is so rare to find outside the tribe. If we go to neighboring tribes it costs so much. I don't do beadwork as I just don't have the patience for it. I've made earrings, chokers, hair barettes, ribbon shirts and the boys leggings but that's it. I was supposed to start on a dress for my mom with my cousin on the rez but that's when I fell and then my car broke down. By the time that passed it was the holiday season and everyone was busy.
But, yes the powwow season will be here before I know it. I'll post a couple of pics of my sons shirts and leggings. The leggings are plain.
I would love to make clothing for my babies....thought about doing a Native American one...but....idk.
I know your grandbaby will be beautiful!
Okay I've got some pics. The first is of my son on the day of his graduation from elementary school. He was performing one of our dances as he went down the isle. The other was him dancing before we left. Then there are pics of my other son's shirts and leggings, few chokers.

Yes, it's the pictures that have to be links in all topics except the Artist Showcase. I tried to remove them and all but 1 are gone. I hate to do that but it's my job. We only post actual pics in the showcase because some people still have dial up and it takes forever to open when there are pics instead of links. So to be fair to everyone that is why we limit actual pics to 1 area. Please post links here or put the pics in the showcase. :D
Those are beautiful pics Em, and I love the traditional clothing. You do nice work!! My nephew wore his choker and hat with his feather for his graduation pics. He's an artist so he had his brushes in the other hand.
