I would like to try a doll but I am not talented with craft type things. I just love babies. Is there one kit that would be easiest to try first?
Secrist Course #2 as it comes with an instructional DVD. I loved it here's my baby I made with that kit! Never did anything like this until then! Good-luck and take care! G
Gail, I always say to the new ladies I teach, that if you can put make up on, you can paint a doll/baby. The hardest thing is the eyebrows. Zoe comes out to be a beautiful Baby, will post my first Zoe in artist showcase. XXXXX June.

So if I ruin the eyebrows I can take thinner and correct them? Or paint over? I am the 6th child from a family of 6 and feel like all the talent was gone before it I arrived. You've all been helpful and I am ordering Zoe #2 kit. It's my birthday present which is this Friday. Thank you all for your encouragement and advice.
I messed my zoes eyebrows up removed them with acetone and done them over ,,,,,,,,,,,, but after removing the one eyebrow more than once I'm still not happy with it .................. You might be a lot better than me ,,,, but annyway happy birthday :) and have fun with zoe you'll be hooked !
With some of the premies, there is barely any brows so if you cant manage to do them, you could leave them off, my Zoe doen't have any, yet I was a Porcelain Doll Artist for over 20 years when I started reborning. So don't feel bad, just get an old doll from the thrift shop and practice eyebrows till the cows come home. LOL XXXXXX June.
Also, if you don't want to paint them on you can use the Prismacolor pencils and draw them on. That might be a little easier for newbies and also people who say they can't paint them. That way you can just wipe them off till you get them how you want them. :)

May I highley recommend the Secrist eraser! It's just as it says...it erases paint mistakes. Theres a tutorial on it in the 2010 catalogue and I got one with my course #3 kit and upgrade and it said just to squiggy it off if you make a mistake and I had one very long and wide eyebrow hair that didn't match the rest, so I squiggied it off and it was like it was never there...no acetone, no nothing...Love it!
Her painting looks pale, JIMHO, but then some computers dont show up true colour and other times, it is the time of day or where we take them. For your first she looks great. I did notice though, her brows are a bit high. I'll see if I can add on here how to make sure they are in the right place. XXXXX June.
Easy way to mark where eyebrows should go. Depending on size of head you can use your thumb, this is what I mostly do, they call it in the Porcelain Doll Industry, Rule of Thumb. If it is a small er head then your finger is fine also. You can mark lightly with a lead pencil as this does don bake on and then you just rub it away. When on Porcelain as they are fired in kilns at over 725degrees, it just burns off. I hope this will help and guide you all. XXXXX June
I appreciate the tip. I thought the brows looked high also but thought maybe I was wrong. All these things are very helpful. I haven't even started yet. I am feeling so aprehensive.
I do have another question though. Are the techniques for the peach coloring different? And... how do you know when to use what coloring? Reason I'm asking is I saw a video for sale that said it was for the peach skintone and it was very expensive. I've already purchased so many to do things, I don't want to buy another.
Everyone here is so nice. I am so glad I found you all!
ThankS june Dee noticed they were high I redone them but the one eyebrow dosnt look so great ..................... But for her painting I didn't do any skin color I just used what was in course #2. Which is: blush, crease and wrinkle & eyebrow :)
If you only had those colors to work with then it was for the short method. The traditional method is the one with all the layers of flesh paint, veins, etc. :D
Here I am picking brains again! I just watched another HOW TO video and it just confused me more. The video skipped around in the layers of paint. She started out with blue then green then flesh tone. But then she was putting eyes in before finishing painting. I realize it was out of order but I wish it had stuck with the painting sequence first. Can someone list the order of painting for me? Layers.... then when in the process you vein and blush. Do you actually end up painting over the veins and blushing? I've watched 4 videos now and none have done a completed process and all have done things different. This one didn't do anything special to the crease lines and another showed how to do crease lines. I still don't know at what point one would do that.
My first kit I know I won't do all that but I don't like feeling left hanging after these videos. If I am going to do something, I want to at least attempt to do it right. Thanks again.
When I paint, I do the internal wash, just near ears, nose bridge, and behind the mouth. Then I do a couple of layers of flesh, bake all layers in between each coat of paint, THEN I do the veinns, do them thinly and in small sections so they are easy the wipe with your make up sponge, you can thin them and make them lighter in color, place more layers over the veins, do your blushing and mottling some blush color and some Periwinkle Blue, if you want the new baby look or chilly look. When your happy with that, you can put birthmarks, scratches, and milk spots. When I do the milk spots I use a broken rooting needle and get a small dot on the end and place it where you like to. Nose, Chin, Forehead and cheeks. sometimes I have seen them blotted, but I prefere( myself ) the little raised spot, then i do a small red circle arround it. , Don't forget your nail tips. thin as newborns are just barely there as with the veind. Creases are done before the blushing, sorry. the soles of the feet are done as a C----Under toes, sides and heal................ Hope this is a help. IN the Secrrits tutorials there is some great stuff, also their DVD on painting and on rooting. I think they are a good investment. XXXXX June.
You just cleared up all the confusion! Thank you thank you thank you. How many layers of flesh does it usually take or does it just depend on the doll?
