I am a porcelain doll collector and new to the art of newborning, but I love it! Even though I love my porcelains and vinyls to look beautiful with real-looking features and eyes, I still want them to look like fine artisitc DOLLS. Some dolls porcelain and vinyl actually creep me out! I know that's weird for a doll collector, but while I totally appreciate the re-born/newborn dolls who look so real that you cannot believe they weren't given birth to, those are too extreme for me, personally, to own. I want to make my newborns look realistic, but still be known that they are realistic looking dolls. I don't want to creep out anyone especially children who may look at it in a collectors home (but hopefully not touch). My question is: Do you all feel that a reborn or newborn baby vinyl doll has to look perfectly real or just realistic as a doll? Can't wait for your replies.
Also, wasn't trying to offend children with my comment, but I feel that these are collectors dolls and are not for play. Kids have many play dolls to choose from out there.

I have made porcelains for over 20 years. I went from making them to the vinyls, then reborning.
If you want your dolls to look realistic but still like dolls, might I suggest the "peaches n cream" complexion? They have the blushing and all but not all the mottling and veins/capilaries. More like a good porcelain.
Thanks for that advice! I do want to learn veining and I understand the mottling fairly well so far so I want to do that, but I don't want the extreme of it as much as the shadings it makes. Yes, I guess I am still ina smoother porcelain state of mind., but many babies that are 2-3 months old, while some still have skin rashes ans milia, many are smoother even skintoned...yes, your Peaches-n-Cream complexion and I think I might want them to look a bit more like that- 2 to 3 months old and not quite as fresh from the womb...LOL! Thanks for that advice. Now I need to get the peaches-n-cream colors...more$$!
yesss yessss dont you love them :) and i dont think were allowed to say full names in the forum just in pm's ( not meaning to sound mean at all just sayin :D )
My biggest collection is MO dolls and she and her brother have a Vegas show...I did just get some more vinyl instead of porcelain ...I pre-ordered the latest MP dolls- the 40" gypsy, the 32" "william: and the 34" "rose" his big sister. They are due to come in Feb. I have never had one before of this brand or these two artists both named Monika, but I went for broke and pre-ordered these 3! I figure if I don't like them i will sell them. I hope to love them!
Now I want to make some bigger dolls myself. If we can do newborns we can do the bigger ones, too!
No, honeyloves, I actually don't prefer LM's... I am a very picky person and ev en most of MO's don't get it for me...depends on the sculptor. I go for sculpts from S.Bryer, and K. Scott mostly so it seems. I have 2 of JAPohlmans, but mostly Bryer and Scott.
Well if you're in the market for purchasing some new babies... I have 4 up for unadvertised adoption. Just go to my post and click on my website link if you haven't already :) hehehe
I've been to your site, you bet! Your dolls are great! Of course, I am selling some of my porcelains, now, to pay for newborning supplies! So I am not buyng anymore. I have 3 MP dolls coming in the Feb. shipment - the 40" Gypsy, Nadia, the 34" Rose, and the 32" brother to Rose, William that were pre-paid, so no more buying...just making!

Awww those are adorable! As to your above question??? I think I prefer them to look as real as possible. Or at least, that's what I'm striving for....hopefully in time I can get there. I enjoy the shock and awe of the art. The dumbfounded looks you get and the "what? that's not real?! OMG! it looks soooo real". The dolly ones are cute and well done by many, but IMHO I like them to look real as I thought that was the point. My sons love to watch when it time to "give birth" but one always backs off and says it just too creepy that they look so real. Now that I've gotten better he won't even hold them anymore. hahahaha
You know that was a really good question! Can I ask you?? Why are you creeped out?
