Hi all. I'm new here. I've spent literally hours and hours and hours trying to decide which Reborn kit to get. I'm looking for a really "newborn" newborn baby with a sweet expression on its face. I still haven't decided. Oh no, more hours and hours.
But - I'm thinking it might be best to start with a 17" Inner Glow Baby. I have two questions after watching the video: 1. Can an IG baby be painted the same way as a "regular" reborn kit? I mean, can you put veins and blotches (milk spots??) on it, or is it just for that two step painting process that was demonstrated.
2. Can you root hair on an IG Baby?? I really dislike those wigs, and would never consider using one. Babys just don't have that much hair and it not that coarse.
Hello Poppycat (I welcomed you in your other post hehehe). Glad you are finding lots of information in our forum, it's nice to see artists checking out our older posts too! If you are looking for some info on a specific subject (mottling, chalkies, ovens, etc) just go to search on the top of the page and type in a word or two, then click.
1. Yes, the IG babies are just a "jump start" if you will. You can either leave them as is, just do the 2 step painting you mentioned, or do a full reborning including all the other stuff you mentioned. Lots of people hate doing the inner wash because it's messy and it takes 10 mins instead of 8 for it to bake (because it's inside and not out IMHO). Secrist just thought, for those of you who don't like that part, or only want to do nothing else or minimal painting on the babies, this way you can.
2. Yes, you can root the IG babies if you like. Again, some have issues with that part so that is why they offer the wigs. I personally agree, I haven't seen any babies (well, not hardly any) with as much hair as a wig provides.
So go ahead and get the IG babies, do as much or as little as you want on them. If you are going to root instead of wig... get yourself some nice mohair (like the Angelic Touch) if you want your baby to have nice hair. Usually we recommend the standard mohair to newbies as it can be conditioned well and look ok. And a lot of them do "practice dolls" first. But if you want the best Secrist has to offer... go for the AT hair. I use it and it's REALLY nice.
After you get done with your baby, be sure to post in artist showcase (links only in all other topic threads).
Hi. Thanks for the quick answer to my question. Based on what you told me I think I will get an IG Baby, probably Jamie or Zoe. They are not the highest priced, as you know, so if I mess up it won't be too devastating. All I need to buy with him/her is the paint, mediums and hair. I already have needles, and I am an artist so I have tons of brushes of all types.
I saw somewhere that there is a medium you can use on the skin that mimics the texture of skin like pores. I've got to find that again.
Over a month ago I purchased a kit from Reborn Dolls Kits, Inc., and after lots of emails to Connie, vs. her two "I'll get to it" replies, I'm beginning to think I will never get it. I've looked her up on the internet and understand she is not the most reliable or dependable businesswoman. Oh well, we'll see. Where do you get your kits and materials.
And yes, I will definitely use the Angelic Touch hair. After all, there is a chance I WON'T screw this up and I want my baby to look as wonderful as possible.
