I made a VERY short video of what I'm doing when I'm rooting. In this, I was using a mushroom tool, which had previously worked wonderfully in catching the hair. Now it's not working as well, and you'll hear me say that.

But hopefully, you'll be able to see HOW I'm doing it, and tell me if I'm doing it right or wrong or what to correct. And if I need to make another video, I'll do that too.

I am not saying your way is wrong, this is how I do it first I take a thinner piece of hair I hold it virtical I fold a small piece at the top hold down pass the needle through about 5 or 6 times sometimes less before I pull the hair away, everyone has their way of rooting I just do what works for me, I have heard of people folding the hair in half then root in the center I tried it but didn't like so many hairs a once.

To me it looks like you are strugling to push the needle through, have you tried rooting with a rice sack, by use a sock filled with about a cup of rice, heat in Microwave for three minutes with a glass of water in there as well so you dont burn the rice. This heats the head and makes it easier to push your needle through. As Dee said she does it differently, well I do too. I hold the mohair vertical also and use the needle at one end or half way accross. They tell me that the german folked needle 43 guage makes a nice fine hole with only one or two hairs going into the hole. Some people start from the crown, but I tend to work outside in. Even though I haven't had much time in the past six months, I have watched the Secrists DVD, it is a great investment. Once you learn to root properly, you can sell it on, on ebay. The same for Painting with GHSP. Hope this is of some help to you . XXXXXX June.

I root in sections, poking one area several times before I pull away and move to the next area. I find that when I'm not getting any hairs inserted it usually because my needle has shifted and is not catching the hair (hope that made senseconfuse) I root from the cut end of the mohair vertical position as well. Not that you way is wrong, like June and Dee said everyone roots differently.
