I have hesitated posting this, but I sit here with both Zoe (Taylor) and my unnamed little man that I know at some point need to be rooted. I am terrified that I will mess them up. I don't mind haphazardly rooting my little $5 Walmart doll, cos she's cheap, but Taylor and Pooh? Not so much.
I am not the least bit comfortable with rooting, I'm not at all sure what I'm doing or how to do it.
How do I overcome this fear, and how do I do it so they don't look like something the cat dragged in or worse??
I have considered making a short video while rooting my fairy doll so you all could see what I'm doing, then offer critiques and suggestions. What do you think?
See if you can get a picture of a real baby's back of it's head this should help point out where to start, I sometime by baby magazines to help with colouring and dressing, the hair would be good to take a look at to. XXXXXX June.
I think we all have been in the same place you are when it comes to rooting our first. June has a goos suggestion as to see where a baby's hairline should be. Just be sure that you angle your needle when you root so your babies hair dosen't stick straight up in the air and you should be fine no matter what else you really do. To me thats one of the most important things after that everything else comes with practice. A video though is a good idea, you can watch a few online to get a idea on how to begin youtube has several really good ones for hairline, angle ect, you can bee basic rooting and more advanced there.
I have been in the exact place that you are. I just tell myself If anyone of my friends on the forum can do it then I can too...
I researched rooting mohair on our forum because the way i was doing it was not right but it came out umm kinda fine... I worked on the hair until it sorta looked like a baby's real head. So I found a thread on here that they did all of it head but left the crown undone. I haven't tried it this way yet. But I am hoping when I get to it will be much easier... lol Hope I helped

liselle don't worry you'll master this just as you've mastered everthing else and if you run into trouble pull it out....do the water thing that aviva posted about and start over. have you seen some of the babies being sold on ebay? yikes so have fun with it. decent hair is important and angle your needle as tina said. a vidio may be kinda fun. sage
Sage is right. Try lowering your expectations just a little. Very few people are rooting masters at first.
Suggestions:
1. Try to print out some pictures of newborns with hair--side view, back view, and top view--for reference and just keep them handy.
2. Insert the needle at the correct angle in which hair would naturally grow.
3. Root as thinly as you can at first. It will give you an idea of whether you are creating a natural growth direction to follow, and there is less to remove if you make a mistake.
I can give lots of advice, but I'm still not fond of the process. I would much rather paint.
Linda
