I had taken my best work,my 2nd reborn baby Angie to an all baby outfitter store in Chicago just to try out some clothing for her,I had her neatly wrapped in a recieving blanket in my baby carrier cloth bag..I pulled her gentle out, like a real baby, when I seen a older gal at the other side of the store giving me a shocking expression, she then said in a loud voice,"you should'nt kept your grand-daughter like that and carry her around in bag, you'll hurt her"....at first I thought she was going to scream at me,I was embarrashed, but the sales lady knew it was'nt a real baby because I explained this type of art,to prepare her, before taking her out of the bag(her eyes lite up).
When she explained to the old gal quickly that it was'nt a real baby and at the same moment she realised it was'nt real, she said,"Oh my God,she is so so beautiful" and wanted to hold my her(reborn baby doll Angie).
I show her off in my whole hispanic neighborhood, and they simple adore her and my other babies, from neighbor to neighbor, store to store.

Thus far my 2nd reborn is my best and I have a lot of love for that face of hers and then my 5th reborn is starting to really shape up I've done a bit more detailing on her last night and she melts my heart.
The most difficult thing outside of the actual art work is finding proper clothing for them those that actually fit her(yes I only make girl babies)without having to spend $40-$100 on an adorable outfit and without having tamper with the size of it with safty pins or what's worse needles and thread(ugh)
I have three preemies two of which are a personal collection but the boy he is chuck-ish and I have to sometimes put darts int he neck.. for my girls I definitly have to place darts on the neck even if I buy preemie out fits. My favorite face is the Zoe cause she was the first face I did...
I have a couple more... that I love but I don't remember who they are by... lol I second reborn she melts my heart and she is Identical to the first one I made ever... lol just they are slightly different colors... lol!!!

You gotta know it's a compliment when some lady embarrasses you about how to take care of your granddaughter. You really did a wonderful job on her! I haven't yet developed the guts to take the dolls out to a store to shop for clothes. Okay... so I haven't taken them anywhere except to the hair salon to ask my stylist how to cut the hair.
I have problems with finding clothes that fit that don't cost an arm and a leg, too. I usually have to take a few tucks in the neck with the dreaded needle and thread. Doll clothes would fit better, but most of them look like doll clothes.
Anyone know anyone who sells reasonably priced clothing that fits these dolls?
Linda

Sometimes I can get lucky on ebay with preemie size, and I know our WalMart sells preemie sleepers that are sooo tiny they fit perfectly and the price is so reasonable. I catch them on clearance for 3.00 and not on sale 6.00 doesn't kill the pocketbook which I like =)
On several occasions I took the heads off my finished babies and stuufed more polyfiller in them...not too much cause I did'nt want them looking like little piggies...just to fit them into pretty clothes I find at our thrift store..most always new or like new..I paid anywheres from $0.60-$8.00 per set or per dress..I am never embarashed to dig through their baby clothes section..the ladies always ask me.."How old is she?"...I smile and tell a fib.."Oh,she's just 2 months old",I'ds say
I just can't tell them its for a doll of mine....I've been buying baby and toddler clothing for sometime now...I do have 7 very young god-daughters now,and always looking to add more little princesses to my "godfathershipping"...plus my 5 reborns
I am constantly in the baby section at wally or some other place. HEHE! they ask me what I am having and I have to lie and say it's for a friend of mine she's having a boy and a girl... lol
I love going to wally world.... I always find baby set's for $3.00 and that's regular price... sometimes I go to the fabric dept. and look at the fabric and say oh that would be a nice out fit for a reborn baby... so sometimes it's cheaper to make an outfit or dress...

I wish I had a Wally World to go to...I'd love to go to Walmart...but public transportation makes me too nervous and scared and I when I shake and can't control them(onset of parkinson's)
I hardly can get anyone to take me anywheres and if I didn't force myself to walk,I would hardly go anywheres,I use a 4 legged cane and a regular cane..depends upon how I feel
Your right Sage though.... When you buy a top and bottom all together it's $6.00.... lol I guess I wasn't thinking.
I love to buy baby outfits and such. Except the neck doesn't fit right when I go and put them on Raven... it's like the neck on the outfit is way to big. I must have not filled her neck full enough or something.. lol I always have to take the neck in hahaha....

Public transportation makes me a little nervous, too. It's too bad we all live so far apart because it would be fun to shop and talk shop with y'all.

Oh I tell them it's for my dolls I get crazy looks sometimes but who cares. I think it's funny watching their reactions after that, some just don't know what to say and other get really into it asking questions.
The thing about the outfit not fitting around the neck properly is very troublesome especially when we're tryin to hide the apperance of a cloth body...if the the fulll vinyl body was set at a reasonable price...loose clothing on a baby looks so real..we would no even bother with the cloth bodies(my option is the cloth idea kinda puts chackles on my artistic creativity)
Face it I'm a freak...I just love dressing them up..try all different colour schemes on them...and stepping back and either adoring their new outfits..or saying that's just not right...not right at all: peach and black nahhh
I agree, the necks are the worst. But I'll tell you a manufacturing secret I learned years ago when making shoe skates... all peices in one size are not created equal. When I go looking for a preemie outfit, I look at allllll the same outfits and pick out the one that has the smallest neck! If I have to go through 2 dozen pink tops then thats what I do. Everyone is in a hurry to make production numbers. They have an actual "range" of inches that the neck can be. And if someone makes a few too large and they slip by the QC manager, well so be it.
Take a look at one size in a dress or top and measure them all together once. You'll be surprized at all the different neck sizes there are.
I wish we did live closer to each other. We could all go out with our babies shopping and have coffee together. We could all be crazy together. I live in Rome New York it's a city in Up state N.Y. I don't think their are any reborners around here.So I really got looks the day I took my baby to Wally World. It was fun . I'm about ready to do it again. I don't think their are to many doll people of any kind around here. I also make porcelain dolls and theirs are a very few of us But I've really been taken over with my babies they are so much fun . I also know what you mean about can't find clothes to fit right on our babies. I'm going to find a pattern and see about making some. Linda
If we all got up and moved to Florida...weather would be great..heck we could then put our heads together(ThinkTank)and open up a large Reborn Clinic, demo's,teaching, selling kits and supplies...it would have maybe 10-15 reborn art teachers..it would surely be a first....have our own Cafe built inside..have lunceons, etc etc etc

Sure sounds great. I could work in the cafe! I now what to make it would be a Cafe hit. My famous Ready for this??? FROG EYEDSalad. Sounds good right?? Linda
isn't that big reborning show IDEX held in florida , we should all try to go to the next one. that would be so much fun. they hold class' there too .picture it a whole gang of reborners takeing over the town, drag raceing strollers in the streets, dressing babies right out in the open.a wild time. sage
Yes Sage, I still admit, you are funnier than me (and I'm usually a riot all by myself!!)!
Being a new "professional jeweler" and reborner, and certified reborning teacher I guess I have all the bases covered and someone could be standing at home plate waiting to catch the customers and students!
We can put the cost of the frogeyed and gater food in their entrance fee along with class fees and then everything (except clothing and stuff for the finished babies) would be included in the price. I'm sure they can't individually eat THAT much! lol
Oh it'd be like reborners disneyland! I love all the ideas!!! What a nice dream eh? Maybe I'll make that image my "happy" place huh? :)
the real deal would be sooo excellent , everybody off their meds . giveing free rein to they're inner child. i don't know if any one town could handle us. .......lol sage
Ya, especially if you and I are there Sage! hehehe We'd have everyone rolling in the isles, including ourselves! I don't know if I'd want to release my inner child any more than I already do hun... it might not be pretty! hahahaha
