How about the Secrist 22" Stevie http://www.secristdolls.com/inc/sdetail/20464 Or since he's an older baby, how about checking out the AV site: www.avdw.com you might find something there.
Your best bet would be to search the other doll sellers (can't give you the names in forum, against the rules) but check BB, DD, Dolls by Sandie (I can say this one cause she's a Secrist dealer too), SR... I can't think of the other 2 I usually purchase from but maybe someone can pm others to you. My computer will be down for the next 4 days so I'll check in with you when it's back up. :)
The first pic is Stevie by Secrist. Similar....sorta
The next is Nicky by JG. Maybe....
And then Sebastian by MS. I cant find a pic of just the vinyl kit.
If I'm looking for a similar sculpt (I know I wont find one exactly like him) what should I look for? I'm trying to look beyond painted faces and hair....looking at nose width and position, eyes, and mouth.
Any pointers from those of you who have done portrait dolls before? How did you look for them, and how did you come to your decision?
I'm not good enough to do a portrait, but I would like to find something that his mother could look at and see who it was supposed to be. You know?

I would say look at several pictures of him (with different expressions and poses) at or around the age your looking to recreate. Compare a kits with similar facial shapes with feature similarities I would try like Pat suggested and look through several other doll sites as well your bond to come across something.
By the way love his pose in the photo...tooo cute!
Honestly, his most telling feature at ANY age is that crooked little smile. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find a sculpt with a crooked grin. And I love the pose as well. I think he was an adorable baby! :)
I'm glad you said something about the smile. Since it's not usually possible to find a sculpt that looks like a match, I look for standout features when I search for a doll kit to resemble an actual child. And the standout here is the crooked grin. Like you, I've searched but cannot seem to locate anything yet. If I find anything, I'll let you know.

Kim I think the kits is adorable too and yes they look similar. I'll keep my eye out I thought I might have run across it in the past but I can't remember if it was RDK or somewhere else. Keep checking ebay though I see any people stocked up on kits during the sale and are reselling them there.
I still haven't heard from her. I'm so disappointed. I've emailed her several times over the past couple of weeks, but haven't gotten a reply. And I *KNOW* she's checked her email, cos Poppycat's been emailing her and getting a response. *sigh*
I tried to not get my hopes up, but it didn't work out that well. I'm disappointed. I was hoping to get it in time to complete by Christmas for my MIL.
For those that didn't know, she had a double mastectomy last year. She's getting ready to undergo reconstructive in a few weeks, right before the birth of her first grandchild, my niece. I thought it would be a good Christmas present for her to do a baby that looked like her son, since she loved that sculpt as well.
I sent her a long email day before yesterday, not angry, just pleading. She responded!!! She actually shipped it and UPS confirmed it is on the way. Soon I will have my very first baby, Raine by Toby Weeks. I sure hope she gets all the parts in the package. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you. It took me about six weeks.
I have never gotten a reply to my numerous emails to Cindy, nor have I seen a paypal invoice come thru. So my guess is she doesn't have one for me. I will email her after I get this kit to let her know, but I won't do business with them.
Get this! My kit should come with a certificate of authenticity, and I'm gonna send the CoA out to Becky Bright, the creator of the kit, to autograph for me!! I thought about sending the kit, but, I don't want to send it out to AZ. I want to get started on it!
This kit is 68/300.
I got an email from the seller this AM, and really appreciate the honesty. I was informed that there was a tiny pinprick hole in the kits forehead, but I couldn't see anything from the pix. I opted to have some money refunded, but not the whole kit. I've waited too long to get one. Do you think that will be a problem?
Fantastic that you got your Sunshine! Yes, I agree, best choice. And I don't think that pinprick should be a problem. If it is, just insert some sculpting clay in it and bake/paint as usual. It should be ok. Or it can always be a baby blemish KWIM? :)
