Oh! I am so excited. I've just received my babies.

There are they.

I've just put them in the doll's clothes. I love them so much! They are so tender, so lovely, so small, so beautiful!

This is Kylie

and Katheryn

and Kyrin

and Kirsten

Also I got Mushroom Pin and 7 (38g) needls.

And now, while I am waiting for paints and DVD tutorial, what can I do with these kits? Do I need wash them or other actions? Help me with advice, please. I want them to be ready when DVD and paints arrive. Thank you.

As for me. it is very hard to believe, that I am able to do alll work to make them "alive". I am so afraid to make a mistake with them, that I only can pray God for His help.

They are precious aren't they. So excited for you! You can get them ready by washing them and letting them dry so when you paints arrive, you'll be all set!

And how can I wash them? To put in warm water (what temperatura of water?) with ... "Fairy" (I wash my dishes with it)? For how long time? And two from them are with eyes. Is it good for them to keep in water with eyes? They (eyes) put inside the head ahd covered with plastic.

RE: preparing your vinyl doll kit for painting ??
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

usually any kind of dish detergent as long as it doesn't have hand softeners in it. It leaves a residue.
You can use the ones for grease busting. Hot water works best. I usually leave mine for 2 days but you could put them in an oven to dry faster (just make sure you shake most of the water out).
If you leave water in your vinyl, it can cause mold to form inside, so this is why you want to dry your parts well.

Secrist says their doll kits need no prior washing as their process doesn't leave any residue on the parts. But some people wash all their doll parts regardless.

This was a reply by Pat B. to a similar question
Hope it helps

Thank you! I just want to be sure, that I am understood right.
1. I should take a lot of hot water + detergent + all the parts of my kits (including heads with eyes). Right?
2. Then I carefully wash all the parts and then dry them during two or three days. Am I right? Is it possible to dry them in the sun (in the balcony)?

Yes, you have it right.  I don't see a problem with drying them in the sun on the balcony as long as it's not too hot and you bring them inside at night.  I would worry that they will get dusty if you leave them outside for too long.  You don't want to wash them again.

Hugs,
Linda

Hello to everyone. Today I've received the parcel from Secrist. At first I was so excited, smile but now I am ready to cry cry.

I ordered these things

1. DVD course #3
2. Premixed skin texture foundation  (I can use it without thinner) (10 ml) - 1
3. Economy Petite glazing gel (I can use it without thinner) - 1
4. Eyebrow beige pencil - 1
5. 3D Thick texture Medium (I can use it without thinner) - 1
6. AR shine remover sealer (30 ml) - 1
7. AR color thinning medium (30 ml) - 1
8. Petite set for advansed classroom DVD
9. Some clothes for my babies
10. Set of 4 mushrooms sponges

I oredered all these things after reading just a little about things what I really need for my babies. But now I read more carefully and am just keeping myself not to cry. I understood, that for genesis paints I need their own DVD, not Secrist tutorial. Am I right? And I don't know if I can use these colors (Advanced genesis pyrole red 05, genesis pyrole red 02, genesis flesh 07 and 08, genesis phthalo green 06, genesis phthalo blue 03, and genesis dioxazine 04). Also there are moist glaze medium (is it the same as glazing gel?), advanced genesis paint thinning and genesis burnt umber. Do I need to mix the colors for to have right secrist colors or I can use my colors from genesis without mix them?

Do I need special liquid thinner for these paints or it is enough the thinning that I have in the set and in the jar? In what proportion should I mix the thinning and the paints? I am so upset - and I think that I should better send my paint set back for to change on premixed paint's set - so I can use it without any thinner and without mixing the colors.

I have my birthday next week and if God wants and we are alive, we are going to Viena (Austria) for three days. This is a birthday trip. We don't have genesis or authentic reborn paints in Russia, but I think, may be it will be possible to buy these premixed paints in Austria?

I was so hopeful and now I don't know what to do...

Oh, I forgot. Earlier, in the morning I bought another good kit - and I think, I will need more paints for to make her.

ad248800cb9d.jpg

Why I so upset - because I wanted to begin with my quadruplets but now I still don't have paints!

And there is something wrong with water, so we don;t have hot water in the house (there are more than 50 apartments in the house and our is # 13 - I like this number!) So I can't ever wash my kits. I think, may be God has another plan for me for these days.

I'm not sure what paints you have but it sounds like paints that need mixing. I always have both myself I started out with the starter set of GHS paints then bought a few premixed jars. As far as thinning them you thin your paints to a water color consistency for best results however everyone has thier own way of reborning and some mix a bit thicker. When I started out they didn't have the premixed set or a dvd for them I bought the advanced dvd with a starter set of paints and used that. I does sound like you need to mix your colors and definately use a thinner. However looking at what you have so far, you have what you need to get started. There are a few post in the forum for ideas and different views on thinners.

Thank you, dear Tina. I've just found, that odorless thinner is odorless white spirit. So tomorrow I will try to buy Russian odorless white spirit (in the other end of our big city - we have more than 1,500,000 people in our city - very large).

So at last I decided to remove the eyes and they've been easiely removed. Then I boiled a pot of water and washed all the details with hot water and FAIRY (dish washing liquid gel). Then I left them for a while and after it washed all with 100% alcogol. And now they are in the balcony. We have all the balconies covered with glass windows, so I think I could keep the parts on the balcony all the time while they are drying. What do you think about this? Is it right?

Sounds perfect to me.  I wished I had a balcony.  Your other doll is Dafne right? I have done her.  I stated before that I stated with air dry paints, but moved on to Genesis. I bought a set of premixed paints and I use odorless mineral spirits (wal mart or whereever I go).  I have used alcohol wipes to wipe off the dolls.  It dries quickly and removes any residue.  Some kits I wash and some I don't depending on where they came from. I don't think I washed the quads (yes I have them little buggers too)  After all is done, I think Kirstin is the cutiest.  She looks afraid. or something.
Anyway...I put a dab of paint on the pallet and I put my mineral spirits in a small plastic container that I just squirt some out.  I then mix with the brush until it's thin enought and then I take a brush and brush it onto a sponge either cosmetic or I like the fine type of sea sponge.  I just start with veins and dab my brush...then I roll it and dab any excess off..and then start.  If the veins are too big or too much paint just dabb it right away with a cosmetic sponge dipped into thinner and dabbed.  If the blue line is too wide, you are putting too much pressure on the brush..just lighten the touch and that will make them more realistic looking.  I just can't wait until you get your first piece done. Aand Lord knows if you mess up...so what?  It's not the end of the world...gosh I've messed up so much it's aweful.  Hey??? does anyone want to buy a big laundry basket full of arms and legs and heads that need to be fixed?  I would be willing to get them off for just S&H  lol.

Yes, this is Daphne. I've just spoken with one lady and asked to help and make her for me. I'm afraid of painting her by myself.

Today we have returned from Vienna (Austria). The city is wonderful. Two days for to see it - NOT ENOUGH!!!

I ordered 2008, 2009 and 2010/11 tutorial catalogue. I don't know, if it is good for to learn how to paint veins. I am still afraid of beginning and waiting for catalogue. I don't have special Secrist pictures where they teach to paints. What do yoy think, are their tutorial catalogues very helpful?

Hi to everyone! Since that it's been going an eternity! I am painting all the free time and my babies become to look more alive! My husband is joking all the time, and my family has decided that I'm mad! But I like the process very much! I don't sleep, I don't walk, I'm just painting and baking!

Lisa, my youngest, asked - Mammy, what do you cook, it smelts very tasty. Then looks in the oven - woooooo, your vinyl babies again. I understood, that I like reborning so much, but it demands a lot of time.

And I understood also, that I can do small babies, but for the biggest one I need more talent! So I found one beautiful artist through the internet (she lives in UK) and she will make my Daphne and Chrissy. They are so important for me, that I am afraid to do them myself. So I think about to buy another kit (may be Estel of Evelina Wosniuk, I don't know yet), and I will try. But I understood, that I need more paints (mostly skin).

I will make photos later. All my kitchen now is just doll-maker room.

I know, I know - I've put a lot of paints... and so on... But they are my first reborns. And I should make hair (rooting - I'm afraid!!!), and then fill the heads... They are not the best - but I love them, because they are my first.

You did a wonderful job on the quadruplets!  They are so very cute--especially, when you see them all together as a group.  Great job!
