Okay folks... The head is finished. I plan on sculpting it up into a bust in the future but for now I have other projects that need attention. First picture is the base face I came up with using the Secrist sculpting form and the second picture is the Frankenbaby I am calling the piece Victor's Child: The Adoption is Complete.
Even though it is not what we expect as reborners, I must compliment you on your sculpting. In all honesty, I guess I expected it to be a lot more scarry (unless you plan on doing some more modifications to it from here. Its actually quite mild. Did you use the large sculpting form? How do you like the forum for your style of sculpting?
I do like the "Victor's child" title. I could take lessons on the smoothing of the clay part from you. Your use of horror modifications is quite good. Hopefully some more forumers will come in and give comments. :)
I think the sculpting skills are good. I would like to see you apply them to a real baby kit. I am not disgusted by it, but as a mother, it reminds of something a child basher would do. XXXXXXX June.
On the neck it said small... it was quite large for me, however, I am used to doing figurine size stuff. I really do like the form quite a bit though. It was quite helpful in taking care of a lot of the non creative "busy" work of measuring out and using calipers and what not to get things in order. Partially the smoothing aspect for me is using a relatively firm clay. That helps with fingerprints and finger and thumb indents. Another thing is that I try to use the biggest tools that will still do the job, this helps with not putting any unnecessary tooling marks in the clay. I thought he turned out pretty good for a first time run through with this style of sculpting.
Tommie, the curiosity has been killing me after reading the "coming clean" confession. I was dying to see, but had eye surgery and then an infection so I've been avoiding the Artist Showcase until my vision improved.
Today, I have seen! I must say you are one talented artist! I've never been into the Frankenstein/horror thing, but I recognize skill when I see it.
After my eye surgery, the eye is only thing about Victor's Child that really bothers me. I worry about the poor child's vision. Okay... so that's not the only thing. I admit I would like to administer some wound treatment, too. On second thought, a good plastic surgeon could do that with minimal scarring. LOL.
Anyway... welcome to the forum, and thanks for sharing your art with us.
Linda

Thanks for the comments. Sorry to hear about having eye surgery... but here is to your being on the mend. Sorry also about taking awhile to respond, but I was out of town at an art retreat in Houston. I got a couple more heads while I was down there and some eyes... so I will be making some more, depends on my mood I suppose if I go for a more standard approach. Thanks again, and best of luck with the healing.
I would like to see that too June. Tommie, your sculpting is so realistic (oops, should I have said that since you are... alternative baby art?) as even your "non-standard" sffects on your Frankenbaby are unique and realistic looking. If you might be up for that, I think it might be a good contrast to this peice of art, especially if you painted it realistically. I like contrast, contrast is good :) IMHO
