Hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving!!!! I'm writing this to ask. I keep reading that we shouldn't bake our babies in our kitchen oven that we use for our meals. Is this true? Because I have been. If not what should I be doing? I'm out of work right now going to have two knee replacements done again!!So I figure I'm going to be doing a lot more dolls to get caught up on what I put aside because I didn't have the time. While I was working. Like some of you say eat , sleep and do dolls. Thanks for any advise you can give me.Have a good day! Linda
I had the same concern. It seems that the vinyl emits fumes, which may be hazardous. The fumes are actually settling in a film around the interior of your oven. This will likely contaminate food, as you use your oven at higher temperatures. It is not recommended to use the home oven at all. After reading that info., I found a small convection oven online from Walmart for only eighty dollars. I put it in my garage, and it has been such a peace of mind. We no longer even have to smell the vinyl fumes. I can see the film building up on the window of my convection oven, so I imagine they are right about it not being a good idea.
Yes, they say it conteminates the oven and we should be concerned, especially if we have young children in the house and eating from the oven. I also have heard that the frypans we buy and cook in most days also cause cancer, (non stick pans) In that cause what should we be cooking in. Why haven't they been banned. I also bought a small convection oven and have only tried it out on scones, with my thermometor. So far have worked out temp of oven was about 5 degrees too hot. So once I start reborning again, will use it. I am wondering though, with all the cleaners we have to clean our ovens, and exhurst fans, since we all have been baking babies in them, once cleaned, would they be safe, as long as there is plenty of ventilation. xxxxxxx June

What about the people that have been doing this for nearly 10 years and had kids????? Do you think there will be commercials out...:if you baked babies...ugh...dolls in your oven, then call the law offices of Better and Stop immediately"??????

You never know about those creepy lawyers Aviva lol. Nowadays there seems to be a commercial for just about everything bad, and someone in them to take your money! lol
As far as baking vinyl in your home oven... Secrist has their made in USA vinyl checked against safe industry standards and regulations and found to be non-toxic. Mr Secrist has told me he has workers in his factory that worked around baking his vinyl 40 hrs a week (+) for over 15 years with no apparent associated health issues.
Also, the kits that I buy that are made in Germany are held to an even higher standard so I have no problem baking them either. Mr Secrist said that ALL vinyl will give off an odor no matter what when baked (like all foods give off an odor when baked) but that doesn't mean it's toxic. He is very confident in that vinyl. I have no problem baking it or the German vinyl in my home oven and did for many years. I since have chosen to bake all vinyls in a countertop oven just to be on the safe side. And the "other than" Secrist or German vinyl (like Berenguers, etc) I will NOT bake in my home. I move the little oven outside.
If you have any vinyl that also contains silicone (vinyl/silicone mix) or is solid silicone, that stuff IS toxic. So is some of the vinyls made overseas. If you want to know what your kits are made of, don't ask the seller (chances are they don't know), ask the manufacturer!
I don't know but I think unless you can get to every little part of your oven with a cleaner then you might be safe. Personally I don't think I can so I'm safer doing what I'm doing. If the manufacturers of the countertop ovens only knew they have such a market in reborners... hehehehe
Oh...I wanted to say I found the greatest conv. countertop. Hamilton Beach that can cook 2 12 inch pizzas. I found I can use the convection and put the tem at 250 and then cook the larger size for 8 min., but the smaller babies 6-7 min. I watch the temp and it stays right on the mark.
