Debbie, I am so sorry!  I have never sold on Artfire, but was thinking about it the other day when one of our doll group friends had a doll listed there.  Is there any recourse through Artfire? 

I don't know but was wondering... if your doll was listed on eBay and this had happened... Would eBay assist in any way to get the money that is owed?

This makes me afraid to list anything.  I guess the bottom line is not to accept a check from anyone?

I would love to see which doll was stolen from you.  What about posting a picture in the Artist Showcase section?  Since you made the doll, I think that is the perfect place for it.

Again... I'm so sorry.  If you lived by me, I'd have y'all over for Thanksgiving.  My husband brought home a 20 -.lb. turkey, but he has to work, and 2 daughters can't make it home for Thanksgiving.  I don't even like turkey that much!

I too am sorry you have to go through all that. I have had it happen to me too. Now if I'm at a show I go right away the next open bank day to their bank and cash their check. Saves it having to go through my bank and waiting.
I am shocked that the bank waited so long to notify you. I would talk to a high bank member about it.

Here's a little tidbit for those of you who accept checks:
If I am to accept checks I state in my sale/ad somewhere that I will ship the merchandise after, and only after the check clears my bank. That way they know in advance you're no one to mess with and you are on top of things. I even had one friend do the closed account/check thing to another friend of mine. Needless to say, they aren't friends any longer (and neither am I with the bad-check one).

I know it's too little too late but I wanted to put that out there, like you did in posting so that it may help someone else. It is perfectly legal to wait to ship if you have the disclaimer in your site/ad. Stay on top of the police thing as I believe that if it's over $150.00 USD, it's no longer a misdeminor but a felony! I sure hope they can get these people and make them pay you (and procecute if necessary). It's not right, and especially with your bank taking out the money right before the holiday, just because you fell through the cracks.

Well ladies I have some great news for me anyhow lol. I had the phone lines buzzing this morning. I talked to the FBI, The US Postal Inspector, The AL Police, District Attorney and Check Fraud Division, The FDIC, I think I basically called everyone except the CIA lmao. When I called the Check Fraud division in AL I was telling the SGT there my story I did not mention the woman's name at first. Well I didn't have to. She asked one question did it happen on eBay, etsy or Artfire. I said Artfire she then says' was it Tonya Pendley!! They already have numerous complaints against her. Unfortunately Tonya was pretty smart. She didn't scam anyone in her home state after the first person she scammed there. She learned her lesson when she had to pay the money back and she branched out to other states. Because everyone lives outside of the State of AL no one has gone to AL to file charges against her so even though they know about her they can't do anything until now....
After calling the FDIC and raising holy you know what I called Channel 7 news and our local newspaper. No sooner than I hung up the phone with the Joplin Globe I got a call from our local Bank. They redeposited the entire $475.00!!! They said they did it because they didn't feel it was right to take it after so many months. I am trying to think nice thoughts and believe them on this but I think it really had something to do with how much stink I was raising lol and the fact that I left a message on the machine reading thier disclaimers regarding deposits (yep I tracked down the paperwork that they gave me when I opened my account lol) So this is where it stands. I got my money back and now the Bank is going after her and her bank! So this means that her scamming days will soon be over. The Bank is going to prosecute her to the fullest extent of the law!!! I do not know if I will be kept updated on what is going on but I am going to try everything I can to be. I want all of the other people that she scammed to know exactly what happens to her!
Thank you all for the shoulder to lean on. I was like a crazy person this morning lol. My husband kept saying thank goodness he wasnt home and that she certainly messed with the wrong people. I am still going to speak to Channel 7 and the newspaper because the general public needs to know about this unknown bank law. I am more upset about this than anything else. If I was told this from the beginning I would be fine with it but they do not disclose it that is not good practice in my eyes.

LOL I was like an insane woman lol. It wasn't even so much the money (though I really couldn't afford to lose it) it is more out of principal. She has done this over 300 times and not one thing was done to her. To me that is unacceptable. The other thing that really got me going was this secret bank rule!! I think that made me madder than anything else.

Hey Debbie, I was thinking of you today as the girls and I had the last of our Thanksgiving leftovers.  I was hoping you and Gary finally got to celebrate a belated Thanksgiving dinner with your turkey breast and sides.   

If I ever have a problem like this one (God forbid), I hope I can remember all the agencies to contact that you did.  If there was such a thing as a consumer advocate for reborners, I would nominate you, hands down!  The bank was probably scared to death they would end up with a PR problem from being on the news or something.

I bet you'll remember this Thanksgiving for many years to come.
