This is my first reborn, I haven't rooted her hair yet and I have to paint her nails and eyebrows.. and she needs some lashes and a little matte varnish... What do you think so far? Does she need more flesh paint, or blush.. more veins? Thanks :)
The light was kind of blue so adjusted it in PS for this pic
Aww.. she is too beautiful. Is this your first baby? You did a great job on her. In my opinion she needs a bit of shading in all the wrinkles and creases, don't go overboard keep it soft and natural. You still have to do light delicate eyebrows. And you are right... she needs little matt varnish. Can't wait to see after you have done the rest.
Yes, this is my first baby :) I actually messed it up and had to strip her and do it all over again.. after that my thermometer got messed up and I had no idea, so when she came out of the oven she was shiny... the temperature was too high, so I had to buy a new thermometer...
I already did the creases but I've heard you only need a little color... I guess I used TOO little, I'm going to paint her creases again.. I would have to use the blush paint right? Thank you for your nice comments :)
If you don't have the wrinkle and crease paint from Secrist then the blush paint will do just fine. I almost cremate one of my babies too, (lol) a thermometer is a must have. Post a pic when you done with her.
Great job! I would have never guessed she's your first. Matte varnish her and you have got a gorgeous baby.

I gave her a couple of mint green layers because people told me she looked kinda red/pink so I toned that down, I painted her creases, and her lips a little more, I also gave her more blush because she was kind of pale and when I started painting her eyebrows I noticed the paint wouldn't stick so I had to apply some matte varnish.. she was really shinny! Do you guys know how to get rid of the rough areas after you apply the matte varnish? her skin feels a bit rough in certain areas.. here's what she looks like now
As far as a rough feel with the matte v, it should be really pounced in nicely when applied in order not to have a texture that is noticable. Can't wait to see her with hair and brows :)
Oh...that is a nice job. She looks a lot better. They have that NO shine stuff now and it's available in the small petite set of the strawberry or peaches and cream. It's 4 jars now instead of three. I'm anxious to try it. That darn Mr. clean sponge works fantastic. I couldn't believe it. I did the little BB doll Dakota...well...I also saw that everyone that did it seemed to have her look like a christmas tree lights. Okay..Just wanted to let you know that it's on sell now. I'm getting some for sure. I notice that sometimes the toes get shiny a it. On my babies...not yours....lol. Anyway I like your baby.

I painted her eyebrows... :S it's really hard, I think that after rooting this is the less fun part... what do you think? I haven't baked her so i can wipe them of if you think it looks bad...
I tried the mr clean sponge.. it didn't work at all.. the doll was still shinny... I've heard it works for a lot of people but not for me.. and when i rubbed harder i noticed a little paint would come off... so I gave that up and did the matte varnish :)
No, brows are not bad at all! Very good for your first baby. One eyebrow is just a little bit higher and more curved than the other one. I like the strokes they look very good to me. Take a pencil and hold it horizontal over the eyesbrows that you have painted, line up the outer strokes (last strokes on both sides) and you will see the difference.
And if you hold the pencil vertical in the middle of the face between the brows you will be able to see if the spacing is even, on both sides of the pencil. They must start from the tearduct and follow the brow of the sculpt. Hope this helps. You baby is coming on nicely. Don't rush her and enjoy what you are doing. Your patients will show in the end results!!!
Get the right placement first. Add a few strokes and if you are happy with them, bake them. You can fill in strokes later. This way who have more contol over them. I hope you will suceed my dear... and please don't loose hope!!! Practice makes perfect.
Leave the head for 5 min, drink a cup of tea and relax. Then tackle that damm eyebrows I know how you feel .... I've been THERE!!!!
I didn't get the eyebrows right today so I decided to give her another layer of matte varnish.. the last, so I forgot about the eyebrows for a while.. but when I take the baby out of the oven it was kinda shinny.. AGAIN :S I have 2 thermometers just in case and neither of them showed the oven was too hot.. anyways.. I decided I was going to give it another layer of varnish because now the doll really needed it, I checked the oven, the thermometers and I put a digital meat thermometer between the towells.. and as I was taking the doll out of the oven, the head rolled off :S into the hot oven! I thought the head was ruined forever but after I checked it I can't see anything wrong with it.. it looks fine , yay! I guess I was lucky.. it's a reborn miracle LOL :D... What a day! I'm going to take a week off.. I think I need it :) My only prblem now is that the limbs are still a little shinny... so I have to give them another layer or 2... the head looks fine... how many layers of matte varnish can you apply?
I'm done.. I've been painting eyebrows the entire day! seriously...
What do you think? I got carried away and rooted her eyelashes and forgot to bake her eyebrows :S Can I still put her in the oven without removing the eyelashes?
I am so proud of you!!!! Well done, you did a great job on her. She looks stunning. Yes you can still bake her, but put a little bit of conditioner on the lashes with an earbud, before you stick her in the oven. (this is to prevent the mohair from becoming brittle and dry)
Now the rooting.....can't wait to see her when she's done
Thanks.. .. I'm glad I didn't gave up :D I though I was never going to get a couple of decent brows.. so I'm going to treat myself tomorrow, I'm going to go buy her some clothes and a pacifier :) I'll start rooting in a few days
Flowergirl, your baby is simply gorgeous. I love that kit anyway but you have done a lovely job on her. I am too looking forward to seeing her all finished. Can't believe she is your first. BEAUTIFUL.
I like her with the mint wash much better. The only thing I see and it may be just the pic, her eyelashes look like they could use a bit more on the left eye but thats just my opinion. She turned out beautifully !
How are you using it? I wet it and then wipe it over the baby in the shiny areas..it will just look very wet...let it air dry and then it does come out a matte finish. I just barely put pressure, but I don't think any paint should be coming off if it has been baked on..unless it's something that was added after. zO , I'm going to try to find an old picture of Dakota before Mr. Clean spongebath and then after. I'll try to find it...lol

l love those eyebrows!! The barely there ones are the best. I can't remember seeing a lot of eyebrows on newborns and I've probably given the first bath to about a 1,000 at least... If the baby is fair...you don'thardly see anythng.

This is what she looks like after rooting her hair.. it was a lot of work!! but I think it's worth it... she looks ok .. after all she's my first baby :D practice makes perfect right ? :D I had a great time making her hairband.. I just grabbed a few scrapbooking supplies that i had laying around
Aww... she's finally done! She is so cute, you did a great job on her for your first baby. Who says rooting is a peace job?????? It is hard work (lol) I love the hair band.. clever idea.
She's worth all the trails and errors.. don't you think
Don't sell her, she is so precious.... Not now anyway. You have to play with her for awhile!!! You won't be able to part with her right now, Your pics are beautifull.
hehe.. no I don't have the heart to sell her right now.. maybe in a month or so.. but right now I have to keep her.. besides. I haven't got the stuff to fill her body with.. I'll get that next week...
What kit is she?? I think she is just the cutest thing!!! I think it's fun doing the little crafty things for them. One thing that has really helped me a lot is I got this little bowdabra from Walmart (I think under 10.00) and I can make up some really cute bows very quickly to match most any outfit. I get those very cheap knee hi stocking in walmart that are in the little round plastic containers..I try to find plus size as they are really long. They are hanging up in this metal cage like thing and come in most colors..blues, pinks, creams, white etc. etc. I like using those to put the stuffing things in. Then I got this cute headband with clip om bow from BB and then looked at how that was made, so I made one using these knee hi 's. Those knee Hi are only .33 each. I make one band and then use the bowdabra to make the bows I want. Anyway..are you going to sell her???
