This is my first reborn and this little guy has no rooting yet. I've been taking a class and been working on Jamie since October. I read your forum often and use all the imformation I can get. This has been a great experience, so much fun. I've grown so attached to this babe. I hope I have not over-painted him and put in too much detail. He is a slightly lighter color than the picts. Any feedback is appreciated.
Ok, since you said he's not as pink as the pics show, I'll say his facial coloring is pretty good for your first doll. Congrats! The soles of his feet could use a little more tlc though... Even though babies don't have arches, you want to blush the color on in a "C" shape leaving the middle of the foot on the inside where the arch will be (when he grows up) blank with no blushing on it. The heels look pretty good too! On the bottoms of the toes and the ball of the foot you might want to think about making it not so rashy looking. It's not supposed to look like the cheeks, the cheeks can be a little rashy looking but not the bottoms of the feet. I always tell my students to make it smoother. Take a look, can you see what I see in the pic?
Otherwise he looks like he's coming along well! :)
Thanks for looking at him and I'm sure happy you think his face is ok. On his feet, my teacher did tell me about the "C" and that's how he started out. However, I have a tendency to get a little carried away when I work on him at home. I paint, wipe it off, paint again, cook, and repeat this process. I bet I did his feet 5 times. No wonder he has a rash. I don't think I can fix them because I used a tiny bit of the tear stuff on his toenails, and you can't cook that stuff. I guess I won't worry about this problem, since he's my experimental kid. Next baby, Tina Kewy's "Cherish" is next, so she gets the smooth feet. I'm not even going mention what I did to Jamies finger's. I was trying to make him look slightly wrinkled on the hands and feet. On to the biggest challange of rooting. Maybe I'll see you at IDEX. Thank you so much for the feedback. Sandy
Sandy, I love his little face too, once he is rooted and lashes on he will look lovely. I could see a bit of a rash on his feet also. But as he is your first baby, think he is great. I started out with inks and have not long been painting GHSP but am findind them quite easy to use. XXXX June. PS sorry had to correct a few miss spelling, don't you hate that.
I know what you mean about over working and not knowing when to leave well enough alone. I have to say to myself "PLEASE STEP AWAY FROM THE PAINTS!!" LOL as I keep messing with it till it's too much and I don't like it any longer.
On my first porcelain doll it took me 4 hours to get the brows to look decent! Like a movie I saw once... wax on/wax off hehehe.
Yes, for your first I think he's coming along swell! ;) I think it took me 3 mos to finish my first bub. Now it only takes me a week or 2.
I think I'll get a better sense of when to stop on the next one. I took him out yesterday and people thought he was a real baby, which was very exciting for me. I posted a story about that experience in Misc ( I think it's there). Thanks for your reply Sandy
He is coming along nice, it's funny on my first one I was so afraid of doing too much I didn't do enough. I thought she was cute but she still looked dollish to me because of her even tone. Yet she sold yesterday just as I was getting ready to redo her. You never know I guess. Isn't it fun to watch people when you take them out for a test run? LOL! Judymae
Yes, people are funny. Some think I have my grandbaby out (I must look like a grandma lol). I had a Somali woman at college, when she found out it was a doll, ask me "do you make brown babies?" Of course I said yes and gave her my card. lol
