I am considering stripping my Ember doll. I made her a while ago but since then my painting has improved a lot and I have learnt how to correct strange colour vinyls. She is one of my favourite sculpts and I would like to improve her colouring. I know I can strip the vinyl sucsessfully but I am wondering how the hair will go second time around. At the moment she has quite sparse hair like a newborn. Has anyone stipped a baby that has already been reborned and was it a sucsess. If I can do this what is the best way to remove the hair? it is sealed on the inside with Tacky glue. I have added hair to a baby before but never removed it completely. If anyone thinks I would do more harm than good then I will leave well alone and try a new kit but ideally I would like to give this one a "makeover" if posibble. Any tips would be great, thanks.
Hello Karen this is Liz iam new....I saw your question so i thought i would reply..I have stripped lots of dolls with or without hair..I actually done a Luca doll and the hair was grey so i completely cut the hair if to the scalp then with a very sharp knife i carefully without deep holes i cut the vinyl with the roots of the hair..But it still didn't get rid of it all.In the end i put a wig on her and she looked great.I sold her and got a fair few dollars$$$.. You could leave the hair in and still strip her but you need to be careful cos of the hair ...YOu can use a stocking sock to cover the hair, that will make it a bit easier.. Don't worry about tha glue but you can remove the glue in one lump by peeling it off.. Hope this helps.. Nice to meet you.. Liz

Hi Liz, Thanks for your reply, I think I will give it a go. If I can peel the glue in one lump maybe I can pull the hair out then if there is any left I could shave the head to get rid of any little wisps.
I bought a baby from ebay a while back when I first started to reborn dolls and the doll itself is very nice, but she also had a very strange kind of grey coloured hair too, even though it was described as light brown. I only bought her as I wanted to get an idea of what a reborn looked like as I had just discovered them by chance on ebay and fell in love with them and decided I had to give it a try. Anyway thanks again and it's nice to meet you too.
I would say to be careful stripping the BB vinyl as it is a silicone/vinyl and very smooth. Don't rub to get the color off or it may make spots where the paint won't stick. Be gentle with stripping and use cotton balls if you can. Wash in hot water with grease desolving dish detergent and rinse well. Be sure to dry your peices well as dolls can mold inside.
If you want to remove the hair and you said inside is tacky glue, then just put hot water inside the head to soften the glue (you can cut the outside hairs close to the head as you said), then you should be able to just pull the glue (hair and all) off like a skin from the inside.
You'll have to keep us posted as to how you are getting along with this method :)
Thanks for the advice Pat, I probably wont be starting this project just yet, I just wanted to get it clear in my mind what I could do with it but when I do it I will let you know how it goes.
