I went to my first ever doll show with my daughter this past weekend. It was really neat! There were so many dolls of every type and such nice people presenting their collections.
What I was surprised about was the lack of reborns there. There were only a handful. Is this typical? I was hoping to see more.
I was thinking of attending IDEX in January since it is in Orlando and the kids might enjoy that. Has anyone been to it? Do you recommend and classes or programs?
OOOO I'm sorry Emily... I was not ignoring you but just now saw this thread. I'm surprised no one has come in. I have been to many (and entered many) doll competitions/shows. I can tell you that to the "doll world", reborns are a fairly new item. They are just recently coming in more and more. The judges are used to only judging on "porcelain" criteria so this is new territory for them. In order to judge there has to be a criteria.
As far as IDEX Orlando, I was there with Secrist this year and it is quite awesome and to me, kind of overwhelming. Seeing all the mommies with their reborns was really astonishing! I'm not sure I would bring the kids, you'd have to check the rules (yes there are rules). I believe it might depend on what age they are. Except for Girl Scouts and Brownies, I never saw any under the age of say... 12. All the companies have their displays of dolls there and they are very protective of them. But I did love it! I even saw mommies with their reborns in strollers and front carriers, with hats and sunglasses!
IDEX sounds like it would be really fun and interesting. I thought that the Pat Moulton class would be neat. I also saw that Secrist will also be having a make and take with the 6" minis for only $10 if you register early.
Ya, it's really fun there. I was in Orlando with Secrist this Jan. I got to meet Pat Moulton and she signed my sculpting DVD. I know there's only a few spots left for the Secrist make-n-take. It's a good deal.
