Can someone tell me how to get "smoke" from the vinyl dolls? I ordered a new set from a company online who is unknown and my new doll came smelling like someone puffed smoke up her head. I have washed this doll with detergent more than once but it still smells like smoke. I wished ebay would make sellers disclose whether or not they smoke.
I've never heard of that before, have you tried wiping them down with acetone first and then washig them, but please come out and talk to us , we don't bite and you will be so happy you joined the forum there are a lot of lovely helpfull ladies here. June M from Oz......By the way what kit or brand is it.
that is so sad and unfortunate, be sure to share this seller with the forum so we can be sure it doesnt happen to anyone else. i think the acitone is a good idea,
try some natural remedies like a bath for it with warm water and baking soda in it, i would say a bit of lemon juice too but im not sure the effect the juice would have on the vinyl but the baking soda is safe to use, the baking soda will absorb any orders, if the bath in it doesnt work try sprinkling it all over or in the head and letting it sit for a while.
thats all i can think of so far, be sure to let us know how it all goes, id like to know for future refrence too.
I think the baking soda bath is a good idea, be sure to rinse really well and let dry. Then the only other choice you have is to let it sit outdoors or somewhere where it will get fresh air. It may take a week or 2. You don't know how long this "smoker" had the vinyl around where it picked up the smell.
I will ask that you please do not post the ebay sellers information directly on this forum. If someone wants the information you may pm them with it instead. Thanks :)
Skin-so-soft by avon works to clear up the smokey smell (I read that on another doll forum). Just wipe it all over the doll parts that smell and that should work. Also, I heard that you can put the body parts in a bag with cat litter and that should clear up the smell.
I wouldn't use any products like SSS on vinyl as you don't know if it will degrade or compromise the vinyl somewhere down the road. Also, it could change the structure of the vinyl (chemical composition) and make it toxic when you bake the parts. All of that stuff gets into the vinyl and leaves a residue.
