How tight does everyone make their babies joints? Should they be tight enough to hold an arm or leg up by itself or should the limbs fall freely? Or is this a matter of personal preference?
the actual joint would never be strong enough to hold the weigh of your baby's arm no matter how tight you made it.... at least no joint i've ever come across would and the fabric part moves anyway and wouldn't hold your baby's arms up on their own.
You'd need to use internal armature to be able to do this.
personally i like the limbs to have movement to them... just like when you pick up a real infant their arms and legs tend to flop/fall around a little esp if they're asleep.
Good! I thought maybe I was doing it wrong. The joints on my babies have a lot of movement. When I use to make teddy bears the joints would be tight enough to hold an arm or leg up so I thought the babies might need to be the same. I just wanted to make sure everything is good before I attempt to sell any of them. I don't want anyone to be dissapointed.
your teddy bear arms weigh alot less than baby arms - the vinyl alone would weigh more, once you add the weighting inside the arm there is no way you could get your joint to be positioned and stay in place without internal armature, and unless your talking about toddler sized babies i have never seen a baby with armature sell very well... people want that natural cuddly movement. They don't want a stiff baby.
Just a quick tip on armiture, dont use the plastic stuff they try to sell you . You only have to replaceit after afew years, it breaks, Lite wire coathangers are all right for small dolls in sitting positions or I use fencinging wire x3 for my 39" dolls. i know it isn't going to break. But for reborns floppy is best. June M from Oz
I must have stuffed my Juliette less than the others because she is floppy. This is good, as she is a sleeper, she just flops over when I hold her or she is sat down. Definitely makes her more realistic!
