I keep seeing this on babies that are selling for the most money. What exactly is a prototype? While I'm asking question when a baby is OOAK, does that mean it is a one of a kind sculpt, or just one scuplt that will never be painted or done like it is by the one who is listing it for sale? Thanks for any info you can give me, Janie
when a baby is made from polymer clay etc by the hand of the artist and painted it is considered a true OOAK when it goes into production they take the clay baby and make a mold of the head and limbs etc made of vinyl this becomes the vinyl sculpt, a prototype is the first reborn to be made from the vinyl sculpt, when you go to buy a sculpt to reborn you will see a picture of what it can look like once reborned that picture is the prototype baby, for reborn artist like us being asked to do a prototype is a big thing it gives us exposure to alot of people and that helps our sales etc, A collector of reborns will pay more for the prototype for the same reason it is the first of the line of sculpts and becomes well known so they pay more thats why they go for such high prices. OOAK: some reborn artist will say there babies are OOAK because they will never be painting a sculpt exactly the same again. it been a debatable thing for quite some time because others belive a OOAK is created from scratch eg: polymer clay baby so really it is personal choice what we consider a true OOAK baby. Hope this isnt too confusing for you hun i didnt know any other way to explain it (((hugs)))
