So, yesterday I take baby Isabella out for people to meet her! It was such an experience! Everybody was looking at me like some kind of teenage mother! All my friends was talking about how wonderfull and real Isabella looks.
I´ll love to know how was your experiences when you where trying to sell your first baby. I´m just very worried about this selling babies thing!!
i havnt tried to sell any of my dolls yet, but when i took my 3rd doll out in public people were giving me dirty looks and shaking their heads bc they thot i was a teenage mom..lol..
then i gave the doll to my mom to hold and people came up to her and were so surprised she was a doll. my mom gave her back to me and people were asking me so many questions..it was a great experience!
Oh people thouht you was a teenage mom too! Some people think that I was crazy because I was holding a doll! We have to educate the people about reborn babies! lol
Hello All, On the Sunshine Coast Queensland, we had an elderly lady taking her collection of babies out for a walk through the shopping centres, in a stroller, most people thought she was crazy, thats why I leave mine at home. But then,I wouldn't look like a teanage Mum, just an old fogey.June M from Oz
welll i gotta say i take all my babies out to the public and with pride!!! I figure if aman can have a hobby of buying hotrods and take them out to show everyone (he doesnt hide them in the garage) then i can take my hobby out too! there are gonna be people im sure that think im crazy and maybe they are right but im a "happy" crazy woman who enjoys life and is very proud of my achievments and really thinking about it wether we have a good comment or somone thinking we are crazy all in all we get the most important thing the publicity of letting people know about reborn babies! :)

My cousin is *very* young looking. She was in her mid-twenties when she had her first baby. Her husband looks his age. So when she was pregnant she looked like a 14 year old with a twenty-some year old husband! I guess they got all kinds of looks from people!
I was 21 when I had Sean, but he was a tiny baby, so when I was 6mths pregnant with Samantha, didn,t I get some looks, there was only 15 mths in between them, buy the time I had Rachel, Samantha was bigger than Sean. So I guess next time I go shopping I"ll take one with me to see what looks and comments I get. It will be a LOL outing. hehehe. I'll explain that it was immaculate conception, or IVF.June M from Oz
Wow! Now I feel better after reading your posts. I guess Leah is right! I´m very proud of my babies too and I want people to apreciate them. Thete is always people who are going to think I´m crazy or even inmature because I have 20 but whit the look of a 15 years girl so I thing specially for me is hard that people take me seriously. I have to face the fears of talking whit the people, specially because when I said that I make the babies they give me that look like saying: you are very crazy carring that baby, buy more crazy even saying you made it! I´m going to feel better now and when someone make me feel bad about this I´m going to think that at least I have your support here! hehe =)
Susan when i am asked where the baby comes from or who made it i say I am a Reborn Artist then explain my art to them so feel proud hun you are a wonderful reborn artist :) (((hugs)))

Susan You work as a reborn artist ,will be rewarded, It is reward enought ,that you can create something special. And like all of us we learn more each time we do another doll or baby. When my husband took me out to dinner and we,d have to go home and pour greenware or clean it, he was so proud of the hobby, I couldn,t get a word in edgewise. He,d also say, Well, it,s about time we went home to see if we can make some more babies, didn,t he get the royal look.June M from Oz.
I think you are right ladies! We all are reborn artists, I´ts just that at the beginning is´t dificult to call myself artist but now I believe it! hehe And yes, I´m very proud of myself and for all of you as well! =)
I showed my first reborn, Jamie, to a group of women today. I was thrilled when they thought he was a real baby. I was quick to say it's a doll. They would very gently touch a toe and back up a bit and come in again for a closer look. When someone asked me WHY did you do this I said "because I'm an artist". Then I felt I was boasting, but after reading all your comments, I'm glad I said it. Later, I was thinking that if I saw a reborn and my brain first registered that it was a live baby, I might be a bit freaked out. Interesting that every one reacts differently. They decided Jamie looked like me. Geez, I'm 70. What a trip this is. Sandy
I take my babies out sometimes. I am 54 and in college and know a lot of people there. So I do still get looks or someone will ask if it's my grandchild! I do get lots of looks but I figure the smart ones will "ask" me about my bundle I am carrying :)
I have sold several that way, it's fun. When people say "I thought that was a real baby, I just say "good, that means I did a good job!" This always opens the door for a conversation not only about the doll, but also my talents as an artist. And it doesn't hurt at all to have a few (dozen hehehe) business cards on me to hand out.
I used to get really upset when people would say that was scarry or creepy but then I realized they weren't (well, most weren't) saying it to be mean, they were saying it because it looked sooooo very real. That is a real compliment to us as artists. And we ARE artists! It's not everyone that can take something and make it look so real that people take a second look and still aren't sure it's a doll !!! :)
Susan I had forgot what it was like to be and look young, but now that I'm 49 I'd love to try it again! LOL I was 13 when my niece was born, and I'd take her out a lot with me. My married 23 year old brother was her Father. One day we were just out in front on the front lawn and some ladies from our church were walking down the street. They stopped and asked me who the father was. They were really giving me odd looks, kind of looking down their noses... we'll, I told them my brother was the father. They looked shocked and walked away quickly! I thought it was strage but I didin't "get" what they were on about until two days later when the Pastor of our church called my Mom on the phone and wanted to know what was going on at our house!!
Ok, about selling... I am trying to get started selling as well. I don't how much to ask for my dolls, how do I decide is there a magic formula to determine a fair price? I have been showing my dolls to the nurses in my doctor's office, and four of them seemed to want a doll and I told them the price was $300 which seems to be the average price on ebay.. they said that was too much. I lowered my price to $200 a month later but they didn't like that either. Is that too much? I guess I'll have to put them on ebay and hope for the best? What is a good starting price?
Anyone have some good advice??? THANX
I have posted pics of my best 2 dolls so far. I have had several FRIENDS tell me they are creepy and weird! Strangers seem to love them! So far nobody has asked me why I'm carrying a doll around, so they must be OK. I'm going to try the mall soon as I pick up a stroller!
(sorry, your photos have been removed per the terms of the forum. Links only in this thread. You may post actual pics in the artist showcase).
Thanks, Pat B. moderator

Babies are living proof that God wants the world to go on!
I double the price of the kit and add costs of eyes and cloths , as it is a labour of love, To anyone else that means nothing. Best to put one on ebay and see how it goes. PS. Eyebrows are very important and if they are not done properly, will detract from the face, so untill your confident they are perfect or close to, it may be best to leave them off. My first ones didn't have them but now they all do. Love the little girl, would be nice to see them without Dummies in their mouth. XXXX June M
I don't think there is a "magic" formula. But I do 3 times the price of the kit, plus anything else I had to add (like eyes, hair, outfit and that at the actual cost). Then of course it depends on how long you have been reborning and how good your reborns are. The really fickle part is that some people have never seen a reborn doll and don't know.
I charge $400-$600 for my reborns but then again I have been doing them for over 5 years and I am a certified newborning teacher for Secrist. I personally never lower my prices because someone says they're too much. Like you saw, even when you lowered your price to $200 they still didn't want them. Probably didn't in the first place I'll bet. I have people saying my babies are creepy or spooky and I used to get mad but I realized that meant that they were THAT good to look so realistic. So creepy in that case is a good thing.
You'll just have to experiment a little with pricing. And we usually don't get paid enough for our labor!
I think it would be great to take your babies out and see what reaction you would get. I can't wait to take one of my babies out. If I ever get one that looks good enough to take out.Right now poor Joey he's going to need a hat. He's my first one. But I'm not giving up I just love this. My freind gave me a nice white crib. I'm going to set it up in the corner of my sewing room and put my babies in it. I can't wait. Have a good evening everyone. Linda
My hubby found a wooden bassinet at a yard sale for $15. It looks brand new! I have two little ones in it. People who see it think I'm crazy, however I do like the added touch for displaying.
Don't worry about what people think about your bassinet. I have a wooden high chair that I bought at a lawn sale . I have it sitting at my dining room table with a porclein doll sitting in it that I made. I'm always looking at lawn sales for things to put my babies in .I think it makes them look more real. Linda
YOU GO GIRL!!! *CLAPPING.* I think this town thinks I'm kinda goofy too. Sometimes I can't wear shoes and it's cold because my feet trouble me so much with the bone spurs and the raynaulds cuasing ulcers around my nails, so I have to wear those house shoes that llook like booties and I have to wear a large when my foot size is a 6 to 6.5. So I must look pretty dumb...walking around with a stiff neck (finally getting a MRI next week) carrying a doll and wearing the big black houseshoes...LOL>..well...at least they will know me.. hummmmthat sounds pretty bad. I did notice when I had the Zanuto orange cap on the baby I got a lot of attention...maybe because the Volunteers football colors are orange and white.

Naa.. I stopped worried about what other people though of me years ago. I just thought it was the funniest thing when my sweet "hard core" hubby took that that thing out of the back of his truck smiling from ear to ear. I haven't taken any out in public yet, of course I barely get out in public myself unless its to go to work :sigh: Once I get home, I don't feel like going anywhere! I would take one to work with me but I am a construction inspector for the state I don't think contractors would take me very seriously if I pulled up with a infant seat in the car with a doll strapped in LOL! of course right before I retire I just may pull up with them all strapped in LOLOLOLOL OMG that would really blow some minds! he he he I hope things with the MRI go well.
