In the topic "Newbie from Tassie (brrrrr...it's cold here" (Artist Showcase), there were some posts by June and Naomi on threading a narrow satin ribbon and/or elastic through the neckline to gather in clothing that gapes at the neck or shows the cloth body.
I've been experimenting with ways to do this, but I was wondering if June, Naomi, or someone else familiar with this technique could post a few pictures to help clarify the method.
I guess I'm a visual learner!
Thanks so much for your help! Any other methods out there? I'm anxious to hear them!
rosemarie... i've not tried with ribbon as yet, but i mentioned using elastic.
and example would be on a bunny-suit/growsuit. at the back where the button-up to the neckline is on one side i'd anchor the elastic (sewing the end in place), then through a tiny-tiny hole that i've cut in the neck-line i thread the elastic round the neck back out another tiny-tiny hole on the other side of the button-up area and stitch in place to the appropriate gathered amount. this way the suit will still un-button the same way for the baby to be dressed and undressed. In my photo post "help me pick" in the showcase, the bunny-suit that my Emma is wearing in the first lot of pic's, i've used this method as the neck-line on this suit was huge.
I'll post links to a pic example of me doing this the next time i am gathering in a neckline. In the mean time i hope this explaination helps some.
Thank you! I am able to visualize exactly what you are saying! Your explanation is clear and helps a lot. I checked out Emma's bunny suit, and it looks so cozy and flattering around her neck.
BTW, I checked out your new website. . .it's terrific!
Nai Nai , I missed this post, but that is how I do the ribbon as well, but you don,t have to sew it. You can pull enough through to be able to try it, then tuck it in under the backs of little dresses or jumpsuits, if it,s a front opening you canleave it onthe outside. With the singlets, some of them have elastic wit tiny little holes,I go in and out every third or fourth hole. If it is a folded neckline, I use the large needle back the fron so I don,t cut the fabric and tye it at the front also. Hope this helps, I haven,t been able to post any pics because my file has gone walk about in the computer. Hope this helps.June M from Oz.
I have a fairly good idea now of how to proceed, and I think I just need to experiment a little to get the desired effect. I really like the idea of the ribbon, because it can look so pretty and enhance the outfit.
I have a couple of saggy singlets that need tightening up. I'll let you know how I do! Wish me luck!
Thanks so much for your help and kindness!
