Just got home from the last day of the show, i'm so buggered!!!! I'm about to have a hot bath and settle in for some mind numbing evening of TV but thought i'd update everyone who's wondering how i went... I know there will be a load of new topics and questions asked for me to catch up on on here but that will have to wait till tomorrow as my mind is nolonger in functioning order. I still love you all though... i promise......so
it didn't go as well as i'd expected... i sold just over $2000 worth (5 babies). There was an overwhelming interest and positive response, very very busy handing out hugs. extremely tiring - esp repeating the same things over, explaining its done, that yes it's me who made them, how i got into it over and over LOL my throat is actually really very sore from all the talking. my body is aching all over and mum and i are both totally exhausted.
Many ppl took cards saying that they want custom made ones and will be in contact... how many actually do we'll see. Also a number of woman who work in the dementia units took info as they are finding "doll therapy" esp useful with late stage dementia and calming the anxiety of they patience - so one or two units have expressed extreme interest but just need to get the funding cleared.
Another woman has basically said she's going to buy my breathing baby girl "Alexia" she just wanted to let her hubby know first, but she said it's pretty much a sure thing given that he lets her spend $5000 on an antique one and many other collector dolls. So said she'll be in touch in the next few days.
the compliments just kept coming... unfortunately not the money -- i have about 3 and a half grand on credit card that i was hoping to clear and pay out from this.
it was an experience... and it was positive on many fronts but i'm just not sure i'm cut out for the show thing. I'm just so exhausted and the work and stock-piling of babies leading up to the show is an awful amount for the $2000. I could have already made that with ebay sales, and with ebay the computer looks after all that and i can go about my thing. It shows my babies to ppl who are just looking, it handles the auction and bidding - it even handles the finalising of a sale... it seems allot easier that way.
i think you've got to really be a people person, and enjoy the constant small talk and chatter to really enjoy doing the show thing. with my anxieties and general social isolation (self imposed), it really was an overwhelming shock, as well as being on my feet all day and out in public. I tend to spend all my time at home and i socialise really only with the one friend (who has to litterally force me to get out of the house, or even just to go over to her's) and lead such a quite life that this was really draining.
i mean it was positive as i said it was all compliments and great feedback and that was lovely ... but so much easier to let the computer look after the sales side of things. I do think it will also help my ebay sales with getting my name and quality of my work more known. but i'm really not sure i could rally myself for another show... we'll see maybe in another 12months time LOL
the bath is calling, my body aching... and i'll catch up with you all a little later tomorrow.
Bless your heart hun at least you had a positive experience thats a good thing im a stay at home person too so understand where your comming from there, if you by chance read this before your lovely bath check your email! hehehe ((((big hugs)))) see you tommorow xx

Welcome back! Naomi, the forum was NOT the same without you! I missed you and your posts very much! I'm sorry that things didn't work out the way you'd hoped. There is no doubt that your babies are incredibly beautiful, and your set-up for the show was exquisite.
I think it's very likely that you will still get sales after a few of your admirers find that they cannot stop thinking about your babies!
BTW, it'll be fun to hear which ones sold! In the meantime, rest peacefully!
Darling Naomi, I,m glad it is all over for you. I know how draining it is for you. A two day show is too long, and I,ve been doing these for 12 yrs but have cut down drastically because of all the hard work and effort you have to go through before you even get there. You always get the, oh how lovely, and did you do that yourself, when all their doing is trying to get information because they are already doing them. With the reborns, I think you have to keep a lot under your hat at these events. So if you want to teach later on, you can at least make some money where you haven,t had to outlay so much to start with. Even the fuel and accomidation takes away from your sales. Do ebay, and dont become a recluse. You only get one chance at life so take it now. Set aside some time to go out with your friends, because they aren,t always going to be here. I have found that the only people you can realy count on is your family, and you have become part of mine. It has been a positive experiance for you, now do what I suggested, a step by step reborning and have it published in the Aussie mag. Put your name out there. The pics you have on your sale table, send them in, you,ll be ammazed at the reaction from them, and because you are so talented, you can do this via the net. Lots of love, was thinking about you all weekend.june M
I was thinking about you yesterday, wondering how the show was going!
When I was a child, my mom did arts and craft shows. She would go through similar ups and downs with selling. She could have a wonderful show or a terrible one. Also, tons of compliments but not tons of money. I feel for you, you sound exhausted! I hope the bath did the trick and you are feeling more rested now.
Hopefully some of those cards you passed out will bring some returns and make your time and energy more worth while!
I cant stop thinking about the sales. The promoters of these shows know a 4 day show is too long and that they have made a good profit on the sale of tables or stalls, one dayers are the best, as long as they are no more than 3hrs away because you can travel to and from in the one day and only have the expence of the fuel, not the coffee,s food, and accomodion as well.June M
