Here is my first reborn "Jamie"...I'm not at all happy with his hair (the color or how I did it, but live and learn) But I am overall very happy with him! Hope I posted the pictures right.

He doesn't look bad from what I can see. But I can't comment on his hair at all cause I can't see that at all. Can you put a pic of his hair? :)

I think he's a cutie. The hair is very sparse, but plenty of real babies are like that too!

I think he looks lovely I cant see his hair too well but if it is blonde then you have done it just right some blonde babies have very little hair just like that (((hugs)))

Yes, it's blonde, very blonde.
How do you guys keep the vinyl ("skin") from looking dry? And what do you use to tame the hair and make it lay down?

I am not sure what you mean about the dry skin, so I'll let someone else answer that, but in terms of the hair, I have used all sorts of different things on it. Any sort of normal leave in conditioner should work. Many people use spray on detanglers or conditioners; those seem to work pretty well. I also sometimes use Johnson and Johnson baby cologne (instead of water) to spritz and style because it gives the dolls that nice baby smell.

Thanks, I'll try that.
By dry I mean the vinyl has a powdery look to it. Is it supposed to look like that?

The dry look to the vinyl probably depends on where it is. If it is just on the scalp, it might have something to do with the rooting needles causing litlle teras in the vinyl. Naomi was saying something about using a different type of rooting needles to avoid this. If the dry skin is elsewhere on the baby, it probably has something to do with your paint and thinner mixture. You can probably find some threads discussing that in the painting techniques section.

There are a couple reasons you can the powdery look one is if you used genesis matte varnish and didnt leave your parts in the oven long enough to dry properly when you use this it is best to bake your parts for a good 10 to 12 mins instead of the normal 8 mins.

2. some thinners when mixed with genesis paints can cause this powdery look Naomi (precious lullabies) and myself both recomend using Archival solvent (thinners) if you are able to get some, we have noticed you no longer get the powdery look like you do with the others.

You can try to take a clean cloth with some thinners on it and wipe your baby parts over sometimes this has worked in the past for me if it is the matte varnish you can carefuly bake your parts for 5 or so minutes if you need to rebake and are unsure how let me know and i will try to help, hope this helps you hun (((hugs))))

I think you did a great job, but I do see what you mean about the powdery look. What thinner did you use? If my first one turns out as good as your first one did I will be happy!

Thank you guys for the complements! It means so much. It's hard not to get attached to these dolls when you make them, lol.

As for the thinner...I used the one with Mona Lisa on the front? Which ever one that is.
Where can I find that other thinner? That must be what it is, because I didn't use the matte varnish.
