I started with E6000 and love it because it dries fast! But my husband and step-son can't stand the smell. Someone turned me on to "The ultimate glue" which I found at Michael's. It has no odor whatsoever but it takes a few days to dry. So my impatient self prefers the E6000 but I also use the ultimate glue.
Loves, I like the E6000 for my magnets and the felt behind the nose. For my rooting, I prefer the Aleene's Tacky Glue because the E6000 smells just too strong for the larger amount needed. The tacky glue though can take a few days to dry and like it says, it is definitely tacky so I use my fan brush to spread it around.
I like E6000. It dries in a day and it is waterproof. But I can see how the smell might bother people. Maybe you could try leaving it in a well-ventilated area, or leave it in the bathroom with fan on?
Aleene's all the way!! I'm a super sniffer killer... I'm allergic to so many "sents" that my nose hates me, so I stick with what works, and don't stink!! And it has not shown any difficulty with water either!

i use to use the ultimate glue but it is ever so slow to dry - esp in the colder months.
Lately i've been using a spray glue - dries really fast and i can do a few coats over the course of a day. I'm using Micador spray adhesive - its acid free and non-yellowing, also water proof. Its a tacky spray so the hair inside the head really grabs hold of it. Also approved for use on plastics and vinyls. Its so much easier to spray it inside the head than trying to apply the glue with a brush -- quick, easy and mess free
but it does still smell and its an areasole (not good for the environment) -- but it is CPC free. when spraying i just step outside, i leave the head out there for 5 mins or so and then bring it back inside, the vapor and smell has usually cleared by then.
Can someone help me a little? I have made a few babies now without rooting problems but just recently when i have rooted my hair and glued it, it keeps pulling out. I use the tacky glue. I did try the E6000 once but as I was spreading it it seemed to pull the hair through the head inside further and some pulled all the way through. Should I wait until the tacky glue is dry then put another coat on or is there something that anyone knows that I may be doing wrong? I'm a little lost as like I said I never used to have this problem.
Panic over, . I think I was getting a bit tight with my glue, LOL. I put a thick second coat on and put it in my airing cupboard overnight as the warmth dries it much faster and it is now staying put.
Good! Glad you found out what was going on and solved the problem. You might want to get a fan brush just for painting on your tacky glue inside the head. I use one so that it spreads pretty evenly and also so I can get a good coat.
I also have used something called Gel Mediums (regular Gel matte) put out by the Golden Paints company. They make acrylic artist paints and mediums. The smell (for me) is not unpleasant like E6000 and it dries in about 24-48 hours (I know, too slow for some of you). It dries translucent, flexible, and waterproof. I really like it. I have had/found no adverse reactions to it. I am continuing further testing on it. You can find it at most craft/artist stores. It usually comes in an 8 oz jar. I just put it on with my fan brush. Holds the hair on really well. No, you can't put it in the oven lol
I use E 6000 or sometimes I use Mod Podge. No smell, dries fast and a permanent bond once its dried. Its very easy to brush on inside the head, doesn't pull out the hair like E6000.
My friend used to use Mod Podge on the outside of her decorative hat boxes and it always stayed tacky! We never figured it out. Maybe it was a bad batch. Glad it works for you.
When spreading the glue inside the head (any glues) it's always good to have a firm grip on the hair outside the head. Some glues are thick (like the E6000) and will pull to the inside of the head. Just hold the head like a baseball, firm but not squishing, and then add the glue.
Hello to all reborners, iam a new member i have only just registered..I found out about your forum when i receved an email from secrists so i thought i would have a look and came across the questions about what glue to use for the dolls head and i just had to register so that i can tell you and this is a great idea if you need any help with anything...WELLl!! i use normal craft glue where you can buy any where and i use a normal kitchen soup spoon to spread the glue inside the head which does a great job and spread it around well especially around the back of the neck and when you are done you can wash the spoon with water and reuse it as many times as you like..At the same time saving money on brushes... I also apply 2-3 coats..Hope this helps!! Regards..Lizzy (littlemiraclesoflovenursery)

On the plastic squeeze bottle it says, The Ultimate, craft glue. quick setting, dries clear. $4.00 for 250 ml. It is 70% Acetone,10% V/V Hydrocarbons Liquid. This one is made in Victoria Aust. DANDYCRAFT PTY LTD ph. 03 97751044. I'm sure you must be able to get or something similar over there, I use it to make porcelain doll shoes, glue beads on, and when I make my Porcelain fairies, I glue the flowers on. And the other thing is they are stuck realy well. Will post a pic of the Fairy with glued on flowers. Oh, it is also used for wood, leather, cloth, cork, lace and other materials. I also use it on the smaller porcelain dolls to make glue on mohair wigs, like in the fairies. XXXXXXXX June.
