This is my latest, his name's Ben. He's 15" long. He's not perfect, had some moonies to contend with which is unusual, and he needs soem trousers, but I hope you like him anyway!

Going to doll shows and putting your cards out there is one way of advertising without braking the bank. I always did that with my porcelain dolls, even now I don't advertize, if it happens , I'm happy. I have another new lady to do Porcelain Dolls with myself and another student. I think word of mouth and business cards is the way to go. So get out there and sell yourself at the Doll Show. Sam usually, used to do all mine as I am a bit on the shy side, even though on here you wouldn't think so. But I realy don't like to brag about myself. Or for that matter my work. I let people decide for themselves by what they see. XXXXXXX June.

This is my baby. Really I can't sculpt or paint. I just try to do a little baby, and this is my third expirience. I would like to sculpt better, but've never sculpted before.
I like your third one, has a lovely expression and i like the ouftit. Your first one is ugly (sorry!!) but you should've seen my first, like a little goblin he was! looks like you improved a lot with the second and even more with the third. Keep it up, you'll get better and better :)

I think your comming along nicely. I don't sculpt myself but always wanted to give it a go. You'll only improve with each one as you can see. Hats off!!
You are getting better! I agree with Abby that the third one isn't too bad.
Hugs,
Linda

My first sculpt-----EVER.I was a nail artist for 25 years but no longer take clients. At 12 years of age I was a competitive ceramist.I have always been good with sculpting things. But this is a challenge as i am doing a portrait sculpt of my grandaughter for my first project!
Tell me what you think, honestly.Hard to be objective on my own work.I would like to duplicate this for her mom.How do I do that if I get one I love?
Hello and welcome to the forum! This is your first EVER! WOW!! Wonderful job! I having tried sculpting myself yet so I'm not sure if I'm a good judge here, but I think so you've done remarkable especially for your first ever done. The only thing that catches my eye as being a tad off is her upper lip, just doesn't seem quite right. These are JMHO.

I like the eyes on the first pic. And you are actually pretty close to the monitor pic on the 3rd one but yes, the top lip has to come out a bit. It is thin enough but is in towards the gums too far.
If you take your sculpting tool and open the mouth some in the middle, bringing the bottom lip down... then take your tool and put it up under the top lip in the center where the part that goes in is (I don't remember what Mr Secrist said that part is called) and just lift it a little at a time till it makes the top lip stand out. Then carefully close the mouth and smooth anything that is out of whack. You should see some diference. Then repost the new pic so we can see. Also look at it from the top of the head down and from the sides so you get a true 3D picture in your mind.
I am amazed that this is your first sculpt. It looks like you are a pro!
If you weren't trying to make the sculpt in the likeness of your granddaughter, I wouldn't notice the shape of the head. In comparing the sculpt with the face on the monitor, the bottom part of your granddaughter's face appears more narrow.
I'm impressed!
Linda
