June your babies are adorable! Your first was really good too! Thanks for the advice on the lashes. I just wonder if it would be too much of a contrast since his hair is pretty blonde??confuse I'll put next to him and see how it looks. If not, I don't know.

Georgiaga your rooting looks wonderful for a first timer! I wish I could say how to make more full with less holes but I don't know how and am still experimenting with the hairlines myself. I go to Corbis for pics of babies and use those as references.

For needles I use either a 40g felting, 42g crown, or a 42g german forked. The 42g crowns are very thin and I broke almost all of them before I could finish Finlay's head. I am going to show you some pics of Finlaly's head.

The lower back of his head I did with the 42g crown and the rest of the head I did using the 42g german forked. I use the forked with the Clover pen style tool. It is so easy on the hands although I don't mind the wooden tool either. I find it is easier and faster with the pen style tool.

You will see some holes (from the needle and my kitty incidentno) and I find that with the forked it happens more. I don't know, I'm probably doing it wrong..but...I have less of a hole with the 40g felting needle. I guess you just have to try them and see which works best for you. I broke my others so I use the german forked for finlay.

Here are the pics, I hope it helps.

Emily-
Thanks for the explanation and your pics! iI was eyeing that pen holder for the needles. The wooden pin vise is horrible! I will have to get something else or do it all without a holder next time.
Finlay looks great!biggrin

Thanks! Unfortunately Fin has pink eye crying.gif I tried to fix his lashes by pulling them out and putting in bought lashes. Well, it didn't worknocrying.gif

The more I tried to fix it the worse he got....what a bummer! I was planning to sell him but now looks like I'll be keeping himhmm Not to mention, when I was trying to put the glue in, a drop landed on his little face and left a mark.

I'm really sucking today. Now he looks like he has pink eye.

worry.gif When is it going to end? I'm done for today.

Sometimes it happens that some things just go wrong all the way around...Poor FIN! You can always list him as a sick baby...? MO porcelain dolls have a series called "injured" and one has chicken pox, one has a boo-boo on her finger, etc. LOL! Tomorrow is another day.

Darker lashes?? I don't know....if just figured blonde hair blonde lashes. Made sense but now idk....tomorrow is another day it's true and hopefully it'll be better.

I could say he's a sick baby but he has the mark on his cheek from the glue. I know I could photograph him well and it wouldn't show....but...I know it's there and I can't do that. Also the person who adopts him may object to it and I wouldn't blame her. So he's a keepercry

But your Rosie is beautiful Georgiagasmile Well done!

Em, with the pink eye, back years ago there where a faulty batch of eyes, even n ew Baby Borns are going pink. They need to be replaced. Both my boys had white blonde hair when born but both had long dark lashes. So I dont think it would look out of place, tye lighter brown. As for the clue, what type arte you using? Will post pic of how I put on lashes, I do it with tacky craft glue which is water based. Anyway will put pic on here and explain. XXXXX June.

Eye Lahes, I always take them off with Lavender Oil, Eucaliptus oil or metho, metho is good for cleaning eyes, but if you use a water based glue like I do, plain water or ( dare I say spit) is great to take off the excess glue.  When I put the glue on I use a toothpic, put a thin strip on the top edge of the lashes, precur to length first, the round it to shape eye opening, let it partly dry and then you shouldn't have too many problems placing them on.    PS>  Pics aren't real clear, but you will get the idea. Sa you can see the one on the eye isn't quite in correct position so I just use a tooth pic and gently move it back, roll a bit of cotton ball on the end of the tooth pick and clean off excess glue. This usually works first time, unless I'm tied and have the shakes.  XXXXX    June.

Thanks so very much! I am warming up to her. I really hated her after the hair went on, but now she is looking better to me. I still hate the hair! I guess we are our worst critics! LOL!

What do you all do to stop the ties from sticking out into the clothing?

Washed up the new Secrist Diana head with the 3/4 Brandi limbs and the 19" doe suade body...She will need a coat or two of green blocker as she is very orangy. That'll be a first for me with the green...I will be as sparing as possible!
??Do you need to make texture in the green coatings or just a smooth brush on?

Thanks June so much! I'll try the oils to take off the glue that is still stuck to the lashes from taking them off the tray. I'm also going to fit the lashes before I apply so I can get a better idea. This is really the first time this has happened so badly. I usually root the lashes but really wanted to try the glaze thing. Man that was a big mistake.

The lashes I wil use light brown next time. I do have those and brown so I could have used  them. For the glue....well...I usually use the E6000. Then switched to Gem-Tac. This time I didn't want to wait forever so I used instant glue (yeah eww). Well, we live and learn eh?

And yes we are our own worst critics and can be unnecessarily hard on ourselves. When it's all done we've done just great and shouldn't have stressed so much. My mom saw him today and though he was so cute. She says I should sell him for a discounted price. I don't know.....I'm kinda getting attached now.aww

I got some E6000 and I am going to put it all over the next inside root job I do. I might take off Rosie's head and put it on her too, to stop it from shedding, but it may not stick to the tacky glue already there, so...she will stay wiht me asn I will do her again for a sale doll. I love her!

E6000, or clear craft glue is the same, but you get more for your money with the clear craft glue. That is a great idea for the inside of the head, that's what I use. Dont brush too hard though. XXXXX June.

Here's the Paris head that was supposed to be a Diana head...by the way I actually got it from DBS not Secrist afterall...she looked qat all her stock and is P-O'd now as all her Diana stock says Paris and she is calling Secrist!

BTW- This is with the Vintage Blossom AR Gentle Touch color pallet
Word of caution...unlike the Strawberry AR paints this is more red with an orange base and stains heavier. Next time I use it I will thin out the Crease and Wrinkle a bit even though AR is not supposed to be thinned. It is too heavily pigmented and doesn't feather out as well as the strawberry. I still like the coloring, though. More coral but not as orange as peaches and cream.

Yep, that is definately Paris not Diana. Sandi has been a dealer for long enough that she should have checked her stock right away. She's usually pretty good on that. I check every one of my kits when i get them as you never know if there is an issue until you look. As dealers we have 10 days to speak up.
I do like the Paris face though. He's really cuter than on the site with the wig. I'm going to do him as a curly haired little one. Is this one of the innerglo kits or just a regular blank?

Sandie gives great CS... She replies to my emails immediately and the kit I got from her - the starter kit #2 came from Secrist, she just packs it in another box, so it was missing stuff from Secrist to begin with.
She's going to send me a Diana head at N/C, but will have to get it from Secrist as all her's marked "Diana" are actually Paris.
Pat, i do know what you mean, but she explained that Secrist has had many heads with a different name on them in the past, but they were the one's they were packaged to be, so...whoever is right or wrong, I don't know, but Sandie is always eager to please and give good CS, so I am feeling much better! I really do order a lot from DBS and will continue to. If I didn't get such goos CS when I had a problem or question then it would be a different story, bit I've shopped with other vendors on the net who could care less...she's NOT one of those.

I shouldn't have posted what I did in the first place until I made sure who I got the head from and after I contacted them...I was just upset that night and let it fly before getting my ducks straight! Sorry, all!no

I have known Sandie for years. You are right, she gives great cs and is willing to work with customers. Every company at least one time has screwups, it's just part of biz. But to be willing to work with someone takes heart and Sandie has it! IMHO. :)

I'm sure you will continue to have many future dealings with her, she is great!
We those of us who read the postings will understand and I found no point in removing anthing as you did explain yourself, so in my mind... no real harm done hun. I have been known to spout off in error, it's only human. I'm sure anyone reading this entire post will accept your apology hun :)

This is my Paisley kit that I thought about selling, and decided to work on. Now I am very happy I have decided to keep her and work on her. She is the first full sized kit I have ever done, and I am happy with the way she is turning out so far.

I have her head mostly completed, and I have even put her eyes in but have not glued them yet. I still have some final touches to do to her head, and decisions to make about her hair. Rooting still scares me a lot, and painting her hair does not really thrill me either....so she may remain a bald little babe.

Her arms and legs still have to be finished as they only have veining and a base coat on them. Wish me luck in finishing her. I really can not tell you how long it will take me, since I work on her when I can like most of you. But I do find it rewarding! smile

I cannot believe you were so hard on yourself, Paisley's beautiful! You are doing such a good job!
I think I find that I need to walk away from my work for several days to get a real perpective again...then you can really see how it looks without artist bias.
Thanks for the compliment on my Rosie!
Keep it up and don't quit, you are doing a great job!biggrin

Thanks so much for the wonderful comment. It is very nice to get encouragement from others who go trough this process. I'll admit that it certainly takes patience to do this type of artwork. I also agree with what you said about walking away from your work for several days. It's just a good idea to take a break and start fresh sometimes with a new eye.

Thanks againwink

I just baked my Paris again finally after 3 weeks of not being home to do so. She is in the last stages...I now realize that I have enough shading and blushing and I am going to do another coat or two of flesh to blend and then that will be it. Then root. I am glad I was away for a while from this kit as I might have done way too much with shading and blushing ...less is more.  BTW- This is the Secrist Paris, not Adrie Stoete Paris.

GEORGIAGA, Paris loooks lovely, there is one thing I might point out, JIMHO, I tink the top lip needs a bit more shape on the right hand side when you look at him?her.   But I do think he/she is beautifull. I will post piccs of my white haired g'son with his dark lashes.   It does make the eye stand out, and they say the eyes are everything/ their sole.   These are the pics of the two g'children one is about 5 months the other about eight, cant find the pics of them as babies as they have the bonds hats on over their eyes, but as you can see they still have blond hair and dark lashes.   XXXXX    June. PS in the second photo, they both one champion babies in two age groups, Mitchell was only 6 weeks old.

I finally got Paris finished (Secrist Paris). I need to just root her and yes, I am making it a her...lol!

I need to know what to galze the nails with.  Help, please...

She will have Secrist standard brown mohair as I am still using it to learn on before using the angelic touch and slumberland hair....and she has her pre-set Secrist bluish gray and green baby eyes. I will do some kind of lashes.

Please get back to me about the nails and do you all ever use moist glaze to make skin texture? I just wondered if pouncing some on at the end  and then baking might give the skin a more alive look? Let me know if anyone does this and what the result is. yhanks, Georgiasmile

Also, I stink at nails, but I am really good with eyebrows! too good...I mean I make to much of them! All my babies eyebrows are hairy!, LOL!
Maybe I should try hair painting, so I can get it out of my system there where I can make it show and it's ok...I did blonde on Paris and it was too reddish so I mixed brown with the blonde and made a few more short hairs in between the blonde...still looked too reddish, so I did straight brown hairs in between again, and now she has fabulous bushy eyebrows and they are still too light for my taste, but I used Vintage Passion paint by AR and it's more in the coral red family, so I guess it'll work out.
I'm starting to think for me no brows are better than too many...you'll see when I finally put up her picture.
Any of you do any hair painting?

Here is Paris- only thing left to do is baby tears on the lips, eyelashes, and the rooting.
You can see what I mean about her eyebrows and I am pleased as far as this being my second baby, so...I fixed the lip as per June who noticed it was asymmetrical in the beginning. I think I could have made it a bit better on the edges, as it looks a bit sloppy now, but still learning.

Paris looks really nice. Her coloring is great aww

I can't give you any advice on hair or nails because I have not done that yet.....but I am thinking about painting hair on my paisley. I just can not decide!

When I do my eyebrows I use tiny small strokes of the brush, and then I kind of blend them very very softly with the skinny edge of the cosmetic wedge. That seems to help make them sort of 'disappear' but still be there. You know? Hope that helps a little. I have redone many eyebrows to get them right. Thank goodness GHSP is so forgiving to work with wink That's what I'm counting on when it comes to painting the hair, fingers crossed. It seems a lot less dangerous than rooting wink

Painting the hair unfortunately did not go good at all!! no I really had high hopes that it would too. I even bought a new paint brush, and had really studied pics....but I just couldn't get it the way I wanted it. In the end I had to remove all that I had done because I was so unhappy. tears.gif

Then I got some colored pencils because I thought that might work out better. Unfortunately I can't seem to get those to really show up on my dolls head, so I don't know what I'm doing wrong there.confuse

I'm just really frustrated with those two methods, so I am going to have to face my fears and try to root her after all I guess. I orded a tool, some needles, and hair even though I really don't have the money....but I want to finish this doll.

While I wait for those supplies to come I will work on painting her arms and legs. This will be my first time doing nails too. Wow there is so much more involved in this than you ever imagine when you decide to start! It is really not for the faint of heart, it is a big commitment.

I am also knitting an outfit especially for her too. If she turns out well I plan on selling her, that is if I can bear to give her up after all this work wink

Was it hard to get the colored pencil to go on the vinyl for you? Maybe it's just the kit I'm using.

I'm glad that you had good success with you lm doll. Did you post pictures in the artist gallery?

Thanks for your reply about the pencils Ashley smile I have decided to forget about drawing hair on paisley.

I removed the pencil easily with non acetone based nail poilish remover right after I had realized it was not going to work out for me. Now I have repainted her scalp with flesh tones again, and she is all ready and waiting to be rooted as soon as my supplies get here. In the meantime I am going to study up on how to root, and finish painting her arms and legs. flowerpot.gif

Hello Ladiessmile

Currently I'm working on a gift baby. It is the Kate sculpt by Marissa May BB. This is the one I dreaded because the color was so horrible. I forgot to take a pic before I put a color correction layer on it but I bought a Kyle kit from BB at the same time and they were the same color.

So, I have a pic of her with the color correction and a pic of Kyle from the factory. Then  Kate's leg (finished painting) next to Kyle's unpainted leg so you can see the difference.

Then I have a pic of the nails I did using the technique I mentioned in the Painting thread.

sniff.gif Rooting has not gone the way I wanted it too at all. Unfortunately I tried to convince myself that it was going okay with the 38 gauge needles, and I kept going too long and ruined my paisley head. I feel like her head had that ugly plugged look, and I should have stopped right away when I noticed I wasn't getting the look I wanted and ordered smaller needles.....but I was stubborn and kept going. Now it's too late. I plucked out most of her hair and even tried shrinking the holes by dipping her scalp in boiling water and then in ice water. It helped shrink the holes some, but not enough to make them unnoticable. You can see what you think from the pictures I'm attaching.

I feel disappointment really strongly because I feel like the painting went so well this time. I am including some pictures of her arms and legs. I was especially pleased with how her fingernails and toenails came out. This was my first time doing a reborn manicure. I am curious to know if any of you have ever used a different head and body together?

Well I appreciate any feedback anyone has to give. By the way I do have to admit that I really don't like rooting hair, but their really seems to be no other realistic alternative in my opinion. I hope everyone else is experiencing better reborning this week than I am. smile
