5 hours...there are only 3 blushing, crease and wrinkle , and capillary mottling steps, so doesn't take long, just have to wait in between baking to cool and start the next step.
Here's what I'm working on now, Noe by Evelina Wosnjuk. I did all her painting, and I'm working on her rooting now:

Fabulous as usual Andrea! What do you use for the mottling? Sea sponge, makeup sponge with bites out of it, those little sponge tipped tools? I am curious. :)
Thanks, ladies! Pat, I use a cosmetic sponge with "bites" out of it (ie. attacked by tweezers). It seems to work well. I also have a stipple brush I apply my blushing with. ;)

Ok hun. I use a natural sea sponge and a maxines mop. Maybe I'll try a stippleing brush instead. Your complexions are always phenominal! Maybe "I" should come take lessons from "You"!!
Well, here is Sweetie Pie's head alllll finished! I just have to find his body and limbs and put him together (I'm having dejavu... thought I already posted this, hmmm). I still have to root/put on his eyelashes, then weight and dress him. I don't think he's too bad... what do you think? No comment will be rejected rofl hahaha
Well, ladies, I have CFS, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome...had it for over 2 decades...anyway...waas feeling exhausted after some house cleaning chores and it put me in the bed for 2 days, so my Rosie kit just sits upstairs on it's limb rack with only the internal weash complete. I hope to start it tomorrow as I know today is not one of my "good" days, either. Plus it's rainy and humid and I feel that's not a good time to paint.
You all have mentioned not to use your cooking oven because of fumes when baking the dolls...what do you recommend? A separate toastoven type? I will get a heat gun, but don't have on now and I know Pat Secrist - on his DVD's- says the gun is fine for some but it needs a final bake in an oven. Am I going to be sick from using my cooking oven to bake these?
Awww the babies are all coming along soooo well! They are so cute! Andrea your baby's hair is always so beautiful! If only I could learn not to put so much hair. My babies always have a ton of hair. It's not always intentional hehehe
Pat I love how you can put the eyes in so well. Right now my baby's eyes won't do what I want them to do.
Here is my little guy now, he's Finlay by Sheila Michael.
Andrea I agree with Pat that your babies complexions are always phenominal. Thank you for posting your tips about what materials you use.
And Pat your little guy is a cutie. I am so afraid to root hair that I have not even bought any materials for it yet. I wish I could come take lessons from you ;) BTW, I read that you think your cell phone takes better pic's than your camera. Well mine does, so I say use your cell phone! I just finally got a new cell after having the same one for years and years.
Emily your babe is looking good too. I love those tummy plates :)

Aww Liselle he is so cute! And he is coming along wonderfully! I too worry about how to root because I always add too much. I can't seem to find that in-between. BnB closed?! Really? do you know why??
I think his expression is so precious :) Rooting is one of those things where to me, I just keep going until it feels right. I'm rooting my Finlay now and I'm a bit frustrated because I would like to root directionaly but can't. Plus I always end up with a thick hairline. My last one wasn't but I wish I knew a better way to thin it out more.
You hairline is looking good. There is no definitive line around the forehead so I'd say your doing good with him.
Bnb closed because the Ladie that owned it died :( there's a topic here on the forum all about it . I never order from there. .. . Just started reborning the 24th of December

Yeah, Elena passed away late last year. There is a post about it, but I can't recall it off the top of my head. They quietly closed the store after that.
Thank you all!! I think I'll try rooting some more tomorrow. For now, I'm done, and too tired anyway.
ok, here's my Rosie in progress... Now I want real constructive criticism...seriously...so I can learn. This is my first doll with all steps as my avatar Gumdrop was a Secrist kit only for learning blush, lips, and C&W's. It was only 3 layers and this is the full deal. So far I have the blushing, rashiness, and shading done, plus my aweful skin texture job. In person it looks like white spritz of paint on it all over, but my camera isn't great, so I don't know if you can see it here. I still need to do purple and blue eyelid and crease shading and this kit Course#3 DID NOT come with Fleshtone at all! So I will have to hold off to finishe her until it comes as I placed an order for some flesh 08 AR paint yesterday! I want to go over her with the fleshtone to take some of the whitish chalky spritz paint look out of it. I know it's really only my first real full on doll, so I don't want to be too hard on myself, but I could just kick myself for going back over with skin texture paint 3 times! What was I thinking? I was thinking I couldn't see it...like most newbies, I used too much paint. I need to remember that sheer is best and I can apply more coats down the road if I need to...That's going to be the hardest lesson, I think. As for rooting...this learning kit came with junky quality mohair and I will take pics of it when she is rooted, but I will probably put a cap on her. I will get slumberland hair when I get ready to do another. Here is my Rosie WIP:
Doesn't look too bad for your first full kit. She looks light like my babies used to be. Mr Secrist used to tease me saying they looked like they were Swedish or from the frozen tundra. Hahaha, he knows I live in MN. Right now it FEELS like frozen tundra! -20 below 0 last night/early this morning!!
Anyway, with the "standard" mohair... lay it out on the table, hold your hand across it and grab the very end with your fingertips. Then pull straight out. You should come out with a piece that is several inches long. I find that if you do it that way, the hair actually looks more shiny for some reason. I used to cut it and then it looked all dull and lifeless, and it also had lots of little tiny hairs falling out all the time. So I experimented and found that way. It will root better and look better IMHO. :)
Oh, and I think Rosie could use 1 more very thin coat of color on her lips, but I would do that right before I do her eyebrows. Just sayin :)
David Michael is turning out very sweet I had to giggle when I read your comment on the fact that he is taking as long to make as a real baby takes to be born Nothing wrong with taking your time.
As for rooting, at least you're brave enough to try.....I can't even bring myself to buy the supplies!

Hey Georgia....remember not to be so hard on yourself. Besides, Rosie looks good so far. You are in this learning process like everyone else. Don't fret too much about her skin color. I'm sure once you get your flesh tone 08, you can fiddle around some more with her complexion and get it just right

Thanks Pat and knitmomdolls! Yes, Pat, I will do more on the lips in the end...just waiting to do the last of her until my flesh 08 gets here. Will that bring more neutral tone to her and cover some of this dreaded white skintone I created? That's what I'm hoping for!
Rosie is looking good so far. As you said your new to this so just relax I have made the mistake of putting too much texture foundation and the baked it. Then baby looked really weird with the chalky spotty look. It takes time and patience so just keep in mind many layers. keep your paint a very thin watery consistancy. It may not see like it's showing up but it is better to add more if needed that to have too much.
Rosie is looking good, and especially since this is your first IMO! So take a deep breath, relax, and have a liitle patience. You'll see she will look wonderful.
Ok, here is Rosie all done waiting to get rooted! I am very pleased ! I thought the eyebrows would be a problem...no...it was the darn white nail tips! UGH
T gotta work on that! The rooting was fine...I fixed the chalkiness with Felsh 08 when it arrived today in the mail! I put 3 thin coats of it all over her and toned her white mess down. She cannot selll as she isn't right with the skin texture, but no one who doesn't know newborning will figure it out! I will keep her and take more pics when she's done. My camera stinks...Here she is so far: G

you have done a good job on Rosie, her eyebrows are good, i usually have lots of problems with them.
on one of my videos it says to use a ****tail stick for the tips of the nails, mix up your flesh 08 and a bit of white dip the ****tail stick in it, rocking it backwards and forwards to coat then put on end of nails, so that's what i do and it works quite well x

Well done! You are quite good! And this is your first with all techniques involved? Nice job she is looking good. Can't wait to see her rooted! nice shading too
Thanks ladies! Yes this is the first with all techiques done. I have only done little Gumdrop before which is my avatar and she was a kit from course#2- Secrist and they only covered vlushing, lips, and shading, so she only had 3 steps...Thanks again...Now let's see if I can do the hair without destroying a good thing!
Well here is my Finlay as he's coming along. Poor thing he's a mess. I tried to root his eyelashes but made a mess. Oh hum I might end up keeping him
My next one I'm starting on is Jordan by AS I also added a pic of my naughty kitty Keilana. She was sitting at the other end of the table watching me today. She knows she's not supposed to be there and thought I couldn't see her.
Finlay is sweet looking! I love that face! I may have to add him to my wish list of kits! Who is he by? Your cat is too pretty to be mad at! She just loves him, too! She was probably thinking she was grooming him like her kitten only his hair wasn't glued and came out! OMG!
Maybe if you pull out the rooted lashes and stick fake lashes on he will be fine. I don't tink I would root lashes on an open eyed baby, that would be just too hard. XXXXXX June.
LOL! I know, I love my kitty I need to get her a new mouse. She loves those and grooms them until the fur comes off. hehehe
Thanks for the compliments on Finlay. He actually is Finlay sculpt by SM. I say his little face and just had to have him.
You know, as simple as it sounds, I didn't even think to take out the lashes! Hahahaha DUH! I just don't want any holes to show......and I do have blonde lashes......hummmm I'll see tomorrow. Thanks!
I finished rooting Rosie. I am letting the glue dry inside, but I think I went nuts and made too much hair! I wanted her to look more like 2 or 3 months old and wanted her to have a nice head of hair to go with her lush lashes, as I decided she is Italian and needs a good amount of brown hair and lashes, but I may have made it too thick. I haven't cut it yet, so i will see what it looks like after the cut and wet and conditioned...I broke 4 needles on her! I am gald I bought a bunch!
Anyone prefer the german wooden needle holder than the pin vise? I don't like this screw in thing on the pin vise, it gets lose and the needle won't stay in place. WEould like one that goes in like an ink pen...anyone know where I can get one like that?
I am posting Rosie's rooted head (hideous) in the Artist's Showcase...I think it looks terrible! I don't know if it's the amount I put in or the job I did, or if it's the standard Secrist mohair that is the problem... I think I did too much, too with a 38G needle and I would really love a critique. Thanks, Georgia
Rosie: Italian baby girl 2-3 months old...what did I do wrong wih this root job? My first root job, first full-on technique baby...Tell me if I made too many holes, didn't root it right, I don't know what's wrong, as I am not experienced in this, but I know it's not right. Thanks, G

This is a picture taken quite awhile back of my Rosie, or the 2 if I can find them. The one in the pink was one of my first reborns made in 2008, the second Rosie I made just before Valentines day last year. Jamie, along with her, around the same time. I haven't been doing much in the reborning for awhile, shifting house, sorting out molds, material, patterns you name it, I CAN"T find it all yet, there is just so much when you shift. XXXXXX June.

Liselle, thanks! June, those are adorable! I wish mine had longer hair, but it's so frizzy- the "standard" Secrist mohair that came with the course, that long looked like a cancer patient losing hair (not to offend) , not like longer baby locks. I cut it real short, obviously! I layered it really short all over and just left the little longr wisps at the ear and neck. Maybe I should have not cut it so short...? If I do it again, I will have to get different grade of hair and I'd like to know how to make a thicker head of hair without so many holes...advice, please? (Also, can I get a critique on where my hair line is? Please tell me what you can see from mthe pics that I need to work on and how I need to achieve it, with which needle? I only have 38 and 40 right now, but would try others if you can tell me or show me in pictures what the others make it look like. )
