Lyn, you could do a few more skin layers if you want to, but he is also adorable as is. If you do more, make sure they are very light layers. To achieve a more mottled look, apply each color unevenly. Try applying with a sponge or something that will give you some spots of color.
As for the mohair... It always looks darker when the strands are bunched together in the package. For your first rooting experience, I would use a color that will be easy to see. I made the mistake of using blond for my first doll.

To create an even layer I use a brush to apply the wash and then pounce with a wedge to even the paint. Make sure the wedge isn't dry or you'll just take off what you put on. Before i brush the head, I dip my brush in the wash then blot it on the wedge, then blot the wedge on a paper towel or napkin to get most of the paint off.

Thanks to all for the suggestions and comments. I actually removed the paint and started over. Not too happy with the current results but will keep working on it after Christmas. Merry Christmas to all!
Working on this baby now....she's much harder then the rest. I think she looks more realistic..kind of upset, like she is hungry or wet. The little guy is a new one too. He has to be rooted and his body connected. I'm thinking about removing some of the shine on him as well. Tell me what you think please.
Your open mouth baby looks like a real challenge. Can't wait to see if the baby looks hungry or wet when you are finished. I think this one will be very cute.
I think you are right about the little guy needing to have some of his shine removed. I think he'll be even cuter without it.

I agree on the shine removal. Babies have a little shine but not a lot.
I think I have that same sculpt of the one-eyed baby (the first one). I think her name starts with an "E", like Emily or Ellen or something. I fell in love with that sculpt. To me she looks like she's looking for the bottle nipple, it's that squint. Can't wait to see your babies when they're done. :)
Annette & Pat, does "Ella" sound like the name of the sculpt? Now that you mentioned it, she does sort of look like she's maybe hungry and looking for milk.
Linda

Yes, her name is Ella and I thought she was absolutely lovely (and hungry, looking for her bottle) so I just had to get her kit and add to my doll wardrobe (she's waiting in the closet with the rest of her friends). loo Pretty soon they'll all be in revolt cause they're just sitting in darkness hehehe
I like this new sculpt Abby ;) In the first pic it looks like an older baby about 6 mos but in the second it looks like about 2-3 mos. You are really perfecting the hands and arms now. Looking good!

Sage, I think your native American baby is looking great!

I bought some air dry paints, and my first inclination is to say "I HATE THEM" but I can see how great they'd be if you're an experienced reborner. I, however, am not. They really do dry too fast for me to work properly. I will ultimately have to break down and buy the AR or the GHSP sets.
I really need a palette to mix paints if I'm going to use these at all, and I'm not comfortable using my secrist brushes for these paints, but they're all I had.
There are multiple layers here, due to having to touch up with fleshtone to erase mistakes.
I am still practicing, but I think it looks KINDA good. I will try and take better pix when the camera is fully charged.
I also put in a pic of how the head looked after I stripped it.

liselle, looks cute love the teeth. only thing i'd change is the lips, kind of lipsticky . try thinning the paint so it almost transparent and do several layers useing a least two shades. depending on the paint you could use thinner or use you glazeing gel to thin the color. you show lots of talent. sage
Hi Liselle, I agree with sage about the lips, what air dry paints are you using? I use them from BnB they have a gel called real results gel and extender it slows the drying process I'm not sure if it works with other air dry paints, when I first started to use these paints I used the gel but not any more you do have to work fast, I love these paints, keep going you are doing a nice job.
Here's one baby I'm working on right now. She's from the WBT kit by Tamie Yarie.

I stripped him again, and plan to start completely over. I just wasn't impressed enough with the paint job. He's been washed again as well, and is currently drying.
I will have to look more into reborning Berenguers, to get a better idea of where to start. I'm guessing at this point, it's like a kit, since it's blank.
Now poor head is naked again. lol
UPDATE:
I have to say, there is NO comparison with the GHSP. They are the better paints to use, especially for beginners, such as myself. They are far more forgiving than air dry, therefore easier to use. I want to get some more colors though. See the difference for yourself!

Hi, all, I just got my oven and working on the Beginner Kit and Peaches mini. Trying too get oven at right temp. Once I finish these, I'm moving on to the Preemie. Oh I can't wait. I will post pics of my minis when done.
Andrea, Love the new baby. One thing I noticed was the eyes looked a bit off but it could be just me. I love the expression on its face TY's one of my favorite sculptors
Loved looking at all these babies--Liselle's Berenguers and Andrea's WBT from TY.
One huge reason I don't use the air dry paints is because I'm afraid they would dry too fast here in the desert so I'm always interested in knowing other opinions about them.
Andrea, I am actually working on the same doll! I don't have a camera that would take a decent photo or I would show you, but that will be solved soon. I just spent my Christmas gift cards on a new camera. It should get here this week. Now all I'll need to do is figure out how to use it. LOL.

I hope you're right Tina! It's such a hard field to break into, there are so many talented sculptors producing kits, I'm still nto entirely sure I'm ready yet. I'm going to really take my time with this one and hopefully it will be up to scratch!
Hello Everyone, It's been awhile but I've finally got enough supplies to begin my Molly kit by Tasha Edenholm. This time I went with the Genesis paints and like the way they go on so thin. I can control the intensity better. Only thing is the layers are so thin it is driving me crazy to see any difference. Today I finally did and well it still seems so far away??? I don't know.....I'm mixing my own colors so I'm hoping her skin tone is okay. I did some mottling too with a sponge and a sea sponge. I wanted it light so this is what I've got so far. Let me know what you think. Tomorrow I will be doing the blushing, creases, lips, etc.
I wish i could see the photos more closely! Can't make out your painting at all, maybe if you attach them to the post instead they will come up bigger? Lovely sculpt though :)
looking good but realy can't see the mottleing ,camera troubles i'm sure. can't wait to see more pics. little molly'll knock our socks off. you go girl. sage
