Hi Sweet Pea54, here are the pics I told you about. Like I said they are Taino/Narragansett/Pequot Indian. They are different variations in skintone. They go from my firstborn to my youngest. I hope this helps, I know of two artists that have used the pic of my daughter (first) to create skintone for their Native Am. baby.

Thanks for posting these Emily! Your kids are really cute, AND of varying skintone as others can now see for themselves! That should be some valuable information since some don't know that American Indians come in all colors and skintones, even within each tribe and region. Thanks again for the education!
It's like my nephews and neices, they're all different skintones from light to dark having dark-skinned fathers. But since they're half black people think they all should be the same skintone since they're related. Ok, I'll get off my soapbox now lol
LOL! Don't worry about it I totally understand. I am right there with you. My ex and I wanted a large family yes, but it was also fun to see the different mixtures we would get! lol It all varies so much with so many families that unfortunately many don't realize it. However, I'll tell you.....once they read these posts they will see us in a whole new light! lol and thanks.

Hi Emily First let me say your babies are beautiful! Second I wanted to ask if you rooted your reborns eyebrows. The one thing that sort of stands out to me is the one eyebrow is a bit shorter than the other one towards the inner part of the eye. Coloring looks great!
Your skintone and motteling looks really good!! I am amazed at just how realistic some artists painting is. I mean if you consider that it's just painted! I never saw a painting that was that realistic KNIM?
For me hun, the brows are just a little dark. I personally would have gone a little lighter. It does look as though you rooted them as Tina asked. I would have started with 1 hair in the inside corner of the brow and then about 1/2 or 2/3 of the way out, I would have started the double direction hairs. That's the way I paint mine too. I did take pics of my heads with close-ups of the brows in the showcase under "trying to get ahead". That will explain more of what I'm talking about with single/double direction hairs hun.
But overall... good job! I was looking forward to seeing the rooting job on this one :)
Hi, unfortunately I did. I hate the way they turned out. Also because she is so fair, she looks weird because her brows and hair are so dark. I was so disappointed with this one. As you can see I don't show her hair.....that's because it looks so much worst than her brows. I tried using a 42 and 43 gauge needle so there wouldn't be any holes but all I did was break 7 needles. I still saw holes and she has some bald spots because where I kept trying to root would no longer hold strands of hair. To make matters worst, when I brush her hair it comes out even though I sealed it from the inside Thanks Buffington for your comments too. I did paint them at first but it just didn't look right. Then no matter how much I tried with the rooting it was getting worst and worst so I just did what I could and left her alone. I appreciate that you like the mottling. I thought of how we have pores in our skin and how babies tend to be blotchy and that was what I was going for. I did her first coat with a sea sponge but it was far too light and with later layers I tried to cover it up. Although you can still see some between her eyes. I also need to learn how to paint between her fingers better. Thanks for the tips, I'm going to look at the other post as you suggested.

Emily, I love seeing your children's baby photos! Thank you so much for sharing as they show that there is not a "right color" to represent ethnic skin tones.
My goodness those children were cute!

I think Pat has some fabulous suggestions for improving the rooted brows. I have never had the nerve to root the brows--especially, dark ones--so I'm impressed you tried. I bet your next try will even be better.

Hi Jodie, He is a cutie! I would critique if I could but I haven't been reborning long enough to know if I would be of any help. There are many experienced nice ladies here that will be more help. I will say that he is cute and you did a good job. Your rooting looks nice too!
Hi Jodie He's adorable. The only things I see you may want to add a bit more blush to his little palms but it just could be the coloring on my monitor. Pictures are hard to really see due to the color difference from monitor to monitor. Anyway thats JMO, I think you've done a fablous job on your first boy!
Thank You both!! I will keep in mind to use a little more blush on the palms When I was doing my blushing I thought that it was to red/pink for myself.. So I dabbed some off but Now looking at him I should have done a little more.. but I think he is such a cutie..... Thank you, learning how to hand root hair was hard for me I took an old doll and I started to pratice the rooting on that so when I was comfortable I took the hair out of my tester and used it for other reborn babies... I have noticed that the dark haired reborns I have done the hair wasn't coming out like everyone elses. So I think it looks alot better. this was a while ago..

Wow Rebecca! You did a great job! On your first? That is really good! You did wonderfully on the rooting. Very nice baby, she is a cutie. Wow, on your first. Nicely done
Thank you all for the nice words I really apprecate it. I really do love doing this and I have had so..... much fun please feel free to tell me if and where i need more work on Thanks again
Thank You so Very Much for posting your childrens photos! I realy do appreciate them!!! If not for you I never would have known about Native American Indian Babies...It means more than you know to be able to know the truth and to be able to do them the right way. I hope you don't mind, I am going to try to copy your photos and keep them to use as a refrence when I try to make a doll. If you do not want me to keep them just email me at... sweet_pea54@embarqmail.com and I will get rid of them. Thank you so very much for all your help!
Thank you for the lovely comments about my young ones I don't mind at all that you use their pics for reference. In fact, I'm flattered (smile). I just like to put it out there what we really look like because people often like to buy babies that are true-to-life. So if one has a dark baby and says it's a Native American baby, hummm some may not want to buy because our children really are not dark. Some may be if mixed with races of darker skin color, generally they are not. Darker babies may be called biracial or AA. I'm just happy I was able to help. As I said in my other post, I look forward to seeing your babies. I know they will be beautiful because you care about getting the details correct. Happy reborning and get well.
Well done!!!!!! He is beautiful baby I especially love the last picture. The mottling and skintone are quite real. Very nice! Rooting is well done too!
I know I'm new at this but I just wanted to say I think your baby is so cute he looks so real I love his color and hair I love how few hairs he has it make him look that much more real!!! you have done a great job with him!!
Thank you Rebecca. I just hope his new mommy loves him as much as I do. I've only done 3 blonde hair babies in all the babies I've done, but I do like how he turned out.
Tina, you have really captured the newborn look with the hair and the mottling, His little head looks so real. His new mommy should absolutely adore him.
Hugs,
Linda

Sage, how did you like working with the alpaca? Is it finer than mohair? I think I would go blind working on an 11" doll, too!

Rebecca, I would have never known this is your first time to make a doll with an open mouth. From what I can see, the mouth looks very realistic. Great job!!!

I dont know what to use to do it lol! also my hands are also real shakey so I am not sure if I could get a straight line. be my luck the whole nail would end up white and some of the finger to lol!!
i nearly blind ed my self ....again doing a 10" babys nails today , i' actualy had to wear my glass'(yuck) lol. i 'v been useing a very fine brush, toothpicks and pen nibs. i am defintly moveing up in size......these little guys are killing me. but the little girls who are getting them will love them to pieces.they just love it when i bring a baby to visit. their granny can't believe i'd give them a baby cause of all the work they take but i've known them since they 've been hatched lol . sage
Sage, I give you much credit for using such fine hair and on an 11" baby at that! I could never work on one so small, I have a hard enough time with the regular size newborns.' Rebecca you did a wonderful job on your babies! They look very nice, I would love to just hold them Sure wouldn't have thought it was your first time with an open mouth, well done!
Rebecca I use air dry paints so I use a off white paint, I use a round toothpick because it has a fine point I dip it in the paint then paint straight across, it does take practice though.

I just finished a 10 inch baby I thought I'd share her picture. I have a harder time rooting the smaller babies then thelarger ones you would think it would be easier Anyway I don't think it turned out too bad of course my camera skills haven't improved any, she's not as pale as she looks in the picture.

Thank you Sage, I found a website that sells some (sent you a pm) and of course I found a few on ebay. You'll have to post a picture of your lastest 10 inch when he's done. I'd love to see him. hmmmm Seeing eye dachshund?? I'll have to check on that one LOL. They're great mousers though, I had a mini when I was younger she'd smell a mouse through the wall! Then she'd go crazy until she found it! LOL

tina ,with my luck the little monster(i have 5 to choose from) would take off after a hog or cat and i'd be a goner. of course my male half would be worried that the poor baby might have chipped a nail while doing me in. sage ps.you can see how rotten they are lol.
LOL Yep my little angel was spoiled rotten as well, she slept in a tiny basket with a little satin pillow in it in my bed next to me under the covers! She was all of 12 inches from head to tail full grown and got whatever she wanted! When I moved out my mother wouldn't let me take her she said it was her insurance policy to make sure I visited as much as I could (I moved over an hour away and being the baby of the bunch and last to leave my mother hated the fact it was so far). She would get so excited when I went home for visits Mom said she bounced off the wall for hours after I would leave. I do miss her. Your little babies are adorable, I just love the Santa hats! You can tell they are thinking "okay..now what can I get into" LOL
