She looks great! The only things I would change is, paint the inside of her ears and give her a little bit more eyebrows. AA should have darker eyebrows. How much does she weigh?

Hi Hun,

I love the tutu! My daughter was a dancer for 15 years so I'm kinda partial to dance costumes.
In answer to your "too shiny" question, yes I believe she is way too shiny and a light coat of matte varnish should take care of that very nicely. Her coloring looks good from what I can see. I am concerned about the palms and soles however. People expect the lighter coloring on them with such a dark skintone. I cannot see if you have accomplished this or not as you do not show much of her hands.
I do like that you have light and dark tones in her skin. Some people don't know how to do this. They think that darker skinned babies are all one tone. The orange-ish colored pics don't make her look so good so I'm glad you are giong to take better ones. Try to take them in natural light (not direct sunlight).
Hope this helps :)

Hi Buffington,
She does have a matte genesis heatset. She isn"t shiny at all actually these are just bad quick pics taken as I was excited. Sad thing is I studied graphic design and photography and can take professional pics. I just got ahead of myself in excitment. These were just random photos so the flash as it was extremely cloudy makes her look shiny.

Hi janet,
Her palms and feet are a shade lighter. biggrin

Hello Everyone-
I just wanted to show you my Josie I just finished.  She has a slight blemish on her forehead that I'm having a time figuring out how to fix but I wanted to show her off anyway.  What do you think of her coloring?  Trying to improve a bit but need some outside input.
Thanks ladies

Your Josie is cute. I LOVE her outfit!!! Is is hand made? And the smocked dress on the new pic of your Rolland baby is just adorable.

On your Josie, in the pic, she does look like her blushing on her face is a little too vivid. But it could also be my monitor.
The rest of her looks good from what I can see though. :)

When I gather tule for fairy or ballet costumes, I get a length of crochet silk cotton and zig zag over the top, it gathers very easy and then I sew ibbon on top to tie a bow at centre back or front. So easy XXXX June

Her skintone is very nice. Looks soft and smooth. And you have done a nice job of the dark/light where the palms and soles meet the rest of the skin. :)

Only thing is I would have put a little more brown in her lip color and made it softer. And with her nails I would have thinned the color down and made it more translucent.

Other than that she looks pretty ok for your first :)

Thanks for your opinion. "Newborning" is very challenging and hard work. I don't know which is harder for me; the painting or the rooting :) I am going to keep trying until i get it right!

Oops! I Guess I didn't see the rest of your babies! I'm not used to them continuing on in a long line. Did you use the upload photo check box at the bottom of the post box or the one at the top of the page that says instert pic?

But anyway, looks like you had figured out the lip color by yourself on them as it looks much better. Your babies are cute.

Shawna's babies, I'm just curious about the artist of the doll sculpts that you've used for your babies. Lashawna and Marie don't look like any other sculpts I've seen before.

Beautiful work by the way! Keep going, you're doing great!

Hi littleducklings, Thanks for complimenting my dolls. Those 2 kits aren't from the Secrist Company, so I'm not sure if I'm allowed to tell you the name of the kits on this forum. I'm sorry, but I would if I could :)

Yes you can say who the sculpts are and the sculptor. You just can't "promote" another doll site here. Like you can briefly mention if they are from BB. or DD, or SRD, etc if you get my idea? :)

Here is my newest baby. He is two sculpts. "Baylee" face by Lorna Miller Sands and "Kaya" limb by Eva Helland. All are the same baby in different clothing. His native clothing I handmade as I couldn't find it sold anywhere. I bought the moccasins from a seller online who custom makes them. I think he turned out adorable.

His sculpt is "sam" by Helen Connor.  Yes he is a preemie.  I have that problem with the hair.  No matter what I try they all end up with alot of hair!  I wish I could figure out how to make them with sparse hair that doesn't look fake but alas I haven't figured that out yet no.  I used a 40 1 barb on this one hair hoping to achieve the look but still the same.  I did buy some 43 gauge forked german needles but I haven't figured them out yet. I also tried the 42 guage 3 barb but still the same effect hmm

I don't remember if you said so before but do you have the rooting dvd? Stephanie does a wonderful job of teaching rooting babies.

Don't worry hun, I haven't mastered the German forked ones either and I've been rooting for over 4 years :o

Have you tried rooting still in a pattern but not putting your needle pokes quite so close together?

Hello everyone :] This is my Fifth reborn doll. It's the beautiful Sparrow kit. I'd really love to hear some critique, I'm only 14 and I like to know what I'm doing wrong so I can fix it the next time biggrin The only problem I have with little Juliet is that I didn't blend the berry maker enough no. Oh well, I know to do that next time. Thanks!

Hello,

Here are a selected few photos of my reborn dolls and I would really appreciate your opinion with regards to my reborn dolls. I have always been interested in dolls and as a child I helped my mum create folk dolls and repair familiy's and friends' dolls. This is a new artform for me. The faces of the dolls are all individual and the superior quality of the viinyl is such that it feels quite realistic. I wish to be skilful at this artform and an honest opinion will be welcome.

So please, let me know what you think., would be most appreciated.

Many thanks.

Miriam

Lambs,
The coloring in the last photo looks pretty good :)
I usually teach my students to go over their berrymakers layer with a sponge and pounce it so that their circles don't look quite so much like circles. Just a light blending pounce to soften the edges, and you already mentioned that.

As far as rooting, I like the sparse look you have going on. You may want to have more of a pattern going on and space your hairs a little more evenly.

All in all a good job for a young person! Do you have any of the dvd's to go by? The rooting one is very good with Stephanie Sullivan.

Take pics of your babies so you can watch your progress with each one as you advance in your reborning.
:)

Miriam,

The coloring on the first one looks a little too reddish but I think it's the lighting.
The second bub looks pretty good but I think just a little more hint of color on the soles of the feet, Just the ball of the foot and the heel.
The 3rd bub looks pretty good too.
Like I said to Lambs, do you have the rooting dvd? Might help with patterning. And I teach my students to put the eyebrows on one hair at a time so it doesn't look like one smudge (although I know a few artists that like smudgie brows and it's personal taste I guess.
Lighting is not bad. Watch for shadows.

Not bad at all! :)

No Pat I don't have the rooting dvd cry guess I should invest in one.

Lambs-
Fpr 14 your doing a wonderful job!smile
I don't use the berry maker myself I use a small brush and brush on in the areas I want a bit more color.  Cheeks, knees  nose.  It's a great way to control the color and area I want the paint and get a little added texture in that area as well.
On the limbs I use a good ole household sponge with a extremely thinned red paint (you can always add more color if needed but hard to color over too much coloring)

I don't normally use the berrymakers either. I love them for the little 6" minis though!
I use a natural sea sponge and now Secrist has them on the site too.

I really love her so much. Yes, yes, I have all of the DVDs except for the sculpting ones (someday!) and the genesis paints one. I especially love the new special techniques DVD, I'm definitley going to do an asian baby someday! Thanks for the compliments (: I think im getting better!

Hi Tina,

I'm just trying to catch up...  Louise looks like she has some cute chubby limbs.  I have never newborned Louise, but I have been tempted.

What did you end up doing about the body?  Did you use the vinyl body or did you make or purchase a cloth body?

Hi Linda
Thanks, I had a soft body that I had for full limbs that I used. I used the belly and tushie for another doll Solares "Baby" looks wonderful on him since his body was smaller. The plates fit his body better. I had no choice but used the chubby limbs that came with the belly plate (hope that makes sense :0) ) which I really didn't like at all on Louise. I loved newborning her and with the right limbs she'd be just adorable! Give her a go, but I wouldn't use the suggested vinyl body her her if I were you.

Actually Danielle Zweers sculpted the head for Louise. Her and I spent time at IDEX last Winter discussing it. We were roomies! Wonderful woman and awesome sculptor! She sculpted the Brandi limbs too!
But she said Louise's head was too small for that chubby body. Would be better if she could have made the head larger but...
I love the chubby body and full limbs for say a 16"-17" doll head. I'm going to put the body and limbs with another head, perhaps Zoe or Missy.

Thanks for the wonderful suggestion to try the chubby limbs with another head.  I bet they would look really cute on Zoe and/or Missy.

I'm jealous.  IDEX, and with Danielle Zweers!  I would love to have been a mouse listening to TWO gifted artists!

Why thank you very much. I'll tell her that. We are e-pals (like pen pals but with e-mail) since she is in the Netherlands. I am a dealer for her Isabeau kits. I have 5 left and she signed them for me and sent COA's for them. Matter of fact, I have... #1 out of 250! She is mine though hehehe

Yes, when we met we instantly hit it off and have been friends ever since. We were really tired cause we sat up until all hours talking and laughing our heads off.
Once my hand heals from the surgery, I'm going to do one of the dolls as a biracial. I think she'll look really cute!
