WOW! Yeah, I guess I can wait for my hot little $25/ 1/2 oz. because there is no way I can spend $400-$600 on kid mohair from anyone. Especially on a bub that may not even sell! Again very enlightening indeed.
The goat itself is that expensive, compared to buying a white goat, which is why the fleece off a colored angora is so much more expensive than the fleece off a white angora.
Thank you Angela (you aren't Angela S from Mansfield, TX are you?). All that information is great to have here in our forum. I have a friend who used to raise angoras till the divorce. The goat farm is no longer, sad to say. They had mostly whites. But the hair is fabulous (I have 5 hydes in different lengths). I learned a lot from my friend (I call her the goat lady, even though she has no more goats hehehe).
I learned a lot from her but even more from you. If you like, you may stay a member of our forum, speak up now and then, or just monitor if you like. We can't have commercial advertising/sales on the site but we do pm each other back and forth if we find something good. So feel free to pm me when you find out about the kids in the spring.
I am Angela from Minnesota, but I do know Angela S. from Mansfield, TX! If you guys ever have questions "from the farm", send me an e-mail and I will gladly answer them. You can find me at www.redfalconranch.com I just happened to find you guys while researching comments on mohair so that I can stay current on what reborn artists want in their mohair. Take care everyone!
Angela, thank you so very much for the wonderful information about goats and mohair. I hope you will remain a member of the forum and pop in every now and then. I really appreciate the explanation!!!!
Linda

Interesting poll Steve. Although in all fairness you would also have to add: Red Falcon Ranch Secrist Angela in Tx Sheryl in Or
Then of course you would have to distinguish between the actual goat ranches and those who are just distributors (as they get their mohair "from" somewhere else). Just sayin'...

I've heard many people say they really like the Delta Dawn mohair.
