Hi, All of you reborners, I asked in one of the miscellaneous chatter sections if everybody put bought baby cloths on their reborns. Because it seems all the ones I have seen are dressed in them. Even the ones in competion. When I get set up in my Display house, with porcelain dolls and the new reborn babies that I started making in Oct 07, I was going to start sewing for them , like I do for all the porcelain dolls I have made and put into comp, and like I did for my own children before they were born. I have sculped 2 dolls heads the first was after my niece when she was three, I,m realy pleased with her. I hadn,t thought of doing her as a baby but I think with baby arms and legs , she could be. Her name is Madelain when I do her in French Bisq slip, but in the tan and french chocolate I call her Maddee, I,ve made 10 in porcelain and she has won best of show once and best of section all the other times. How do I have the head made in secrist vynal?, and how much would it cost?June M from Oz.
WOW! Is your sculpt ready for production? I can ask Mr Secrist if he would be interested in this sculpt. You would have to take really closeup pics and many poses. One front shot, one from the top of the head showing the nose, cheeks, etc; one a 3/4 view and one a straight side shot. Also, what size is she (19", etc).
Take these shots in natural daylight (not sunlight) and make sure they are clear, crisp photos, not out of focus at all.
When you are done with this, let me know and in the meantime I'll ask. If nothing else, if you can sculpt limbs, I can give you names of other places that might be interested should Secrist not be at this time.
Hi, It,s Me again, I,m not sure of your name, is it Pat C. At present she has only been done in porcelaine with a shoulder plate, I know her ears need a little more work, but when we pour her again I can work on that and change her neck to suit one of your bodies and limbs, but I will take photo,s of her soon. She looks different each time I have made her, I usually give her shoulder length mohair wigs, and because she is only a rough cast mold my husband made, each time I clean her, I can give her a slightly different look. I bought a mold of a pair of old fashioned boots poured them and a pair of legs cut them and joined them on while they were wet , they turned out nice too. We have moved from the Sunshine Coast to a small rural area and the doll show room and pouring room should be set up in late Sep/Oct. I haven,t tried sculpting legs or hands yet for the past 5yrs we have been very busy trying to make real babies through IVF for two of my daughters, doing TV interviews, and magazine stories.I put my girls first and was with them at every appointment. The middle sister donated her eggs, and the other two are married to brothers, so I guess that,s why they were interested in having them on Accurant Afair and Take 5 mag, it even went to England. I,m still not sure how to post photo,s, so when my daughter has some free time, we,ll take photo,s of her and my Secrist reborns. I,ve given thembottles and tin of Jhonsons baby powder. I,m going to another show on the 6th july in Toowoomba about 41/2 hrs from here so I,ll take a photo of my stall and try to post it, is that alright.June M from Oz.
Secrist would tend to lean more towards newborn or infant babies at this time, although a toddler would be nice for the (AV) Apple Valley side.
I used to love working with leather-hard porcelain greenware. You can do so much more with it!
I hope the IVF takes for your daughters! And sounds like you have been very busy on the publicity end of your businesses. Whatever we can do to get the word out!
As per the "rules" you may post links to your pics. I would love to see your stall. Hmmm maybe I'll post one of mine too, good idea!
Nobody has answered my question on dressing reborns. Question, Are they normally dressed in bought baby cloths, like all the ones I have seen. It does make it easy.June M from Oz
i put my reborns in baby clothes..sometimes there are realli cute doll outfits and i buy them and put them in doll clothes but most of the time just baby clothes..like from wal-mart and some thrift stores hav nice clothes too :]
I have dressed my reborns in premie/newborn clothes. It depends on the size of your baby, but my secrest premie fits in premie/newborn clothes. Something good to look for on the size is "up to 7 pounds" I find that most of them fit my premie babies pretty well. And yes, it does make it easier when your baby fits into actual baby clothes :)
I love to make my own babyclothes, mostly knitted and crocheted. For the preemies it is just easier to make them than to buy them - that's why I was looking for the shoes for my preemies. For the bigger dolls I often buy some clothes and combine or alternate them with my handmade stuff. Futher I had a lot of babies in the family the last years and some clothes were donated by the mothers for my babies. I think that makes them extra special.
Like Francisca I dress my babies in a combination of "baby" clothes and home made items. It seems to give them a more personal touch... Sometimes I crochet blankets to go with the dolls or match things I've added to their clothing... And I sometimes make jewelery to go with them too, or sew beads to clothing.

Hi Pat C,I,v cheated at this lot of reborns, because I would normally dress my own dolls , so I was a shop acholic for material, but because it,s all packed away with the shift, I realy don,t want to spend more money on fabrics and laces when I have heaps of it. But when we shift I,ll get back into swing. I love it when I can say I,ve done it all. So I think next lot of reborns will be dressed by me. With my own real babies when I was young, they won Best dressed at Baby shows. We must be on line at the same time.June M from Oz
i use a combo also, my mother is a tallented sewer and does make many of my outfits, though i also do dress them in regular baby outfits too... often in my ebay auctions i'll have my babies dressed in one home sewn outfit (which is often more fancy "sundy best" or christening style) and one more casual snuggly baby outfit. Although my mother does also make some of these too.
my grandmother also hand knitts booties and hats for me -- its like three generations coming together in the making and dressing of my babies. Obviously mother and grandmother are just too clucky for real grand children that they could be sewing and knitting for *giggles* -- honestly though i do hope to have my own real baby in the coming 2-3yrs.
oh and about the cost of having a sculpt made into a vinyl kit. You can go to many manifacturers in China/hong kong etc for quotes. Out if my own interest i've been quoted anywhere from about $2000-$12,000 (big difference i know) for a minimum order of 250 sculpts this includes the mold making etc. On the cheaper end it works out about $16 per kit.
HI Naomi, I learnt to sew from my mother by watching her. When she would get up from the old foot opperated Singer Machine, I,d get on and sew doll cloths from the scraps. She,s no longer arround, but when it comes to knitting, and wool,I want it done yesterday. My ealdest daughter did the same, by watching and if she made a mistake I,d make her unpick, she is a beautifull sewer and sometimes helps me.June M from Oz
i learnt to knit when i was only 6, and sew from about age 8 but i have no patience with sewing and rush it too much and if you look inside anything i've sewn it very poor and unprofessional... my mother did try to teach me, but i was a head strong little one and would take no notice of her, brush her away with a "i know" pronounced with much attitude that she ended leaving me be.
I knitted at lot - then I learnt to crochet - now I am reborning baby dolls - so I crochet the clothes for the dolls. I've just changed my avatar to show you my first reborned doll in the outfit I crocheted for her. She's only 8", and the outfit has been crocheted in 1ply white cotton. She is the second doll I have done - the first was a newborned Secrist Lollipop, but I don't have any photos of her. This is Chantelle, my second doll, but my first reborned doll. She started out a horrid orange vinyl, with poked-in sleep eyes (which looked dreadful) a huge purple ink stain (which I couldn't remove) covering almost the whole on one arm, inner side), bitten-off fingers (I glued on some tiny bits of vinyl here) and she was very sad and dirty.
wow you were brave to take on such a sadly neglected baby... its hard to tell much from the size of the picture but at any rate you really transformed her from the state she must have been to start with.
Thanks! I'm very pleased with her - At first I thought I'd really overdone the blue/purple tones - they colours looked such a huge contrast up against those orange rims.

Sorry about that! I use baby clothes for the larger ones. The only problem is their necks tend to be too small. But a cute onsie or t-shirt will usually hide the cloth body. I made Willow's (Guppy) outfit and plan on making a dress for another preemie I have that is too small for most store bought preemie clothes.
I second that one. I have a passion for faries, elves and leprachorns. Well we went to the Toowoomba doll show, it to was a big fizzer. Table money only and lots of stalls with reborns. I don,t think anyone made any money. It,s getting to be a bit of a disappointment, travelling so far to end up out of pocket. I think it has a lot to do with the interest rate rises and people just don,t have that extra money to spend. I put Jasmine into the compitition and she lost three points because I didn,t dress her and 1 for her eye lashes, and 1 for her eyebrows. So 95 out of 100 isn,t to bad for a ,beginner is it?June from Oz
Thanks for all your help and guidence, to remove biro stains ,you use Benzac AC. benzoyl perexide, water based acne gel. IT realy works, you have to leave it out in the sun so the ultra voilet rays make it work. It drys and you can do it a couple of times untill it,s all gone.June from Oz
Loves --- your guppy looks so adorable, love the outfit, looks like a real little flower!
Thank you, so much. I just need to get her wings and she'll be all set! I did send in two photos to Secrist to see if they would add her to their gallery.
Hi Pat C , i,ve just put one in comp and she got 95/100 lost 3 points for not dressing her myself. 1point because I didn,t paint eyebrows. and 1 for lashes but I, happy with the blue ribbon. The class I went to she said you didn,t have to on reborns, saying is you learn something new every day, no matter how old we get.June M from Oz
It was the Toowoomba doll show, as usual wet,and cold. Im going to take some more photos tomorrow,in natural daylight and hope they turn out clear. Old song. Only trouble is, I,m still not internet savvy. I,ll have to get my daughter to do it , so I,ll have to hog tie her to the computer because I really would like the forums comments.June M from Oz
Dont know if she has been posted in photobucket under direct link. We tried, I hope it worked.June M from Oz.Also one of Marcie Ellen.HTTO://0278&0264JPG.?????????
I did it, I posted photos, but they arent good quality because they were off my phone. The ones I took in natual light, imessed up onto video and didn,t realize. Know I know how to do it I,ll take some better shots. How do I put one under sara zata, member? June m from Oz
