O.K, I have already posted with problems about this doll on the rooting section of the forum but I now have a new problem. I orded an Ashton Drake neck adaptor from Tinkerbell creations so that I could use the bits that I needed and in the picture it showed the neck adaptor with the elastic and all the little parts that you put into the head and the part that sits over the top to make the head move .  when I received it all I got was the white neck adaptor and a wooden ball and Jayne told me that is what you get. I expected to get what was in the picture so now I am at a loss at to what to do with it.  Can anybody tell me how you make this work. The Cryer doll (by Donna Rubert) has a shoulder plate and I was going to use the elastic and little parts to fit into the head.   HOW DO I HOLD THE HEAD ONconfused  All I've got now is  wooden ball to work with.
I need to know how you attach the head onto the shoulder plate.
I havn't started this doll yet as I didn't want to get her all painted and rooted then be dissapointed because I couldn't get her put together.
I've never done this type of kit before and I really don't have a clue  what to do with it.
Any tips PPLLEEAASSEE!!!!!!!
Thanks,
 Karen.X

Karen,
I have done many many porcelain dolls with shoulder plates. Can you please give me some links to a pic of the doll (in peices if that's how it is right now) and also the neck adapter and ball that you got from Jayne? It will be much easier to refer to a photo.

I had an entire thread posted on this exact thing in the old forum, too bad I didn't print the thousands of postings off before it was lost :(

But post links if you can hun and I'll help you get this together :)

Hi Pat,  thanks for answering.  Unfortunately I am no whizz with a computer and only really use it to look at the net and use the forum so I really don't think that I can get a link up, what a dumbo, he he.confused
I will try to describe everything as best as I can.

The doll head has no neck flange at all. It has a hollow underneath with a hole in the centre. The rounded part on top of the shoulder plate fits up into it.

The neck adaptor that I ordered from Jayne showed (in the picture on her site if you want a look)  a large white piece (which I wasn't going to use) that would take the place where the flange would be on a normal kit. It also had the elastic and wooden ball. on the elastic there was a small piece of plastic (I think) to push inside the head and a piece that looked as if it sits on top of the white Part. All I got was the wooden ball and the large white piece.  I  sat in front of the computer with the kit and I have worked out where the wooden ball goes.   All I really need to know is what could I use to put on a piece of elastic to attatch inside the head to hod it on. I wondered if maybe a toggle button would work and then glueing it with E6000 to keep the toggle still, then passing the elastic through the shoulder plate and tying it all underneath around the ball to keep it tight.
I hope that all made sence.  Am I on the right lines?

If you want a look at the doll kit it is on www.nikkidolls.com and it is the cryer doll by Donna Rubert.

sorry for being a pain.
Thanks
Karen. X

You are definately on the right track...

I thought maybe I had kept that post from the old forum where I answered someone doing the same exact doll and also getting their parts from Jayne.

Ok here goes, usually with porcelains the rounded part is on the neck and "IT" fits into the shoulderplate (not usually the other way around).
You would take the 2 domed plastic discs with the elastic threaded through them and put them into the hole in the neck. The smaller one is a sort of lock so the elastic doesn't pull out of the larger one. So tuck them in there. make sure the ends of the elastic are even at the bottom. Stick them through the hole in the shoulderplate, and through the hole in the wooden ball, then tie securely at the bottom. You may also want to put a few drops of tacky glue in the knot so it doesn't wiggle loose inside the doll shoulderplate.

Then to put that assembled section on the doll body, we usually use good quality ribbon and a long large-eyed needle. Put the shoulderplate/head section on the top of the body (after sewing the top of the body closed, you can use a whip stitch). There should be 4 holes in the plate and these are for securing the plate. Take your needle threaded with ribbon, push it through the front hole (or back hole, makes no difference) all the way through to the other side and out the other hole. Then go just below the bottom edge of the plate and go back the other direction through the other side under the plate. You will do this on both sides of the body. Remove the needle and tie the ends of the ribbon and there you have it!

You can also use a toggle (kinda looks like this -v-, well I hope you get the idea anyway) like a V with wings. You can then tie the elastic to the middle of the v part and glue it as so to make sure the metal peice doesn't work loose and come out.

If you have any other questions about this, just come back, also if anything is unclear here.

Thanks Pat for all of that. The only thing that I am still a bit lost on is can I use a toggle with the elastic through it to pop into the head to hold the head on as all the head has is a hole in the bottom. I wasn't sure if that is where you meant to use the toggle. sorry
Thanks.

Yes,  you can also use a toggle instead of the plastic discs (sorry I wasn't more clear)
