Question about African-American sculpts/bodies!

I work with someone who wants an AA doll for her granddaughter. Secrist makes the best ones, imo.  I noticed that Sparrow and Tika both have 3/4 limbs offered but not Starling.  Can I get 3/4 limbs for her if she wants that face?  Also, are all the bodies "white" or are darker colors available?

I don't think Secrist offers body colors other than white or peach. You might try talking to some folks on Ebay about custom-made bodies, or if you can sew, you could always make your own.

That's a shame - I was hoping to be able to get an ethnic-coloured body.....made for 3/4 legs and 1/4 arms....so that I could reborn a dark-skinned doll I have.

Cuisle,

Secrist doesn't have any bodies with 3/4 legs and 1/4 arms--but BB does. They have ethnic colors too. Their bodies are more expensive, but they are doe suede.

I'll end up getting my body from either someone who does customs or from BB. I think it is crazy to put a white body an AA doll!

Thank you so much - that's the body sorted - now I'll just have to do research on the correct colours. This is a great Forum. I understand it better now (the Forum, its rules etc) and appreciate it so much. It's a kind, helpful Forum - the most useful kind of Forum. Many thanks to all those involved.

Try this, I know she's in UK, but she might do something for you:

To make sure you get your colors right on your AA baby, check out these items we offer:
http://www.secristdolls.com/inc/sdetail/36897 or this one
http://www.secristdolls.com/inc/sdetail/34890

They both have good instruction by Michele Barrows- on doing the AA babies (she did our Sparrow). I think her instruction is really good!

Sorry, we have only carried the natural color cotton bodies and the newer pink ultrasuede. I am hoping at some point that we will be carrying a brown-tone for the people who are wanting to do the ethnic babies.

Your best bet for a body for the mixed limbs in ethnic coloring is BB

Thanks Buffington - much appreciated. I WILL be reborning my African American baby now. I'll give her those two-tone lips, something of a mottled look, and the soles of her feet will not be the overall same dark brown colour - I'm getting quite excited about this now! YAY for this Forum - it ROCKS!

Dye the body using Rit dye, it works fine.  A little dark brown will do the trick and using an AV body (excuse me, a Secrist body) will save you money and you will have the dye for future bodies you wish to dye.

i've just made my first AA baby, i put her together with a calico body - i mean its not like you see any of the body with the clothing on. i don't think any baby looks ok without clothing - even if the colour of the body somewhat matches the limbs they still look silly when stripped naked! Maybe it would be somewhat more professional to match the body colour, but for my first i've not worried about that.

you can see my little african baby girl here

Cool! I used to make my own bodies! Then I could get them exactly how I wanted them. I think the calico is cool. Like the little one is dressed under the clothing! :)
