Hi , glad ive come across this great forum smile I love reborn dolls and have 3 so far , i have decided to try my hand at making one so this forum is very usefull indeed and i look forward to making new friends and learning from others . So far i have ordered an Analisa kit , some paints (flesh 08 , red,blue and nail tip ) a sea sponge , paint brushes , a doe suede body , dark brown mohair , felting needles , the mushroom tool thingy! , tummy plate , im not sure what eyes she takes as she hasnt arrived yet....It says once compleate she should be a "22" reborn .Im very excited , however am concerned about getting her skin tone right as ive not practisesd and will be going straight into making her lol. so from what ive learnt so far i will need to wash the kit , dry it , possibly use a pre-wash to dull vinyl day , not sure what colour vinyl she has eithor hmm then is this  right.....if im applying veins i do this , and then add flesh paint ( i will use flesh 08...will this be ok?) and bake after each layer ....adding mottling last. Does this sound right? and will flesh 08 give a realistic effect if painted layers of it? or is there a different paint that will work better ..?

I think i will give her brown glass eyes. also im not sure how to figure out what neck ring/plug she takes. So i guess i will learn along the way! smile

I know how to weigh the head as i have watched a tutorial, but not sure how to fill the suede body! what do people use for this? i see its a mixture of fleece and baby fat with some and fleece and glass beads with others....what do you prefer? would the beads/baby fat need to be contained in something before placing into the doe suede body ? eg-tights , pouch ect, or just placed in  loose ? hope im making sence! and can i ask how long do you bake the reborn for in between layers and on what heat ?  also (sorry with all the questions!!!) what is your favorite type of needle/felt needle to root hair ?

In case I didn't say so before... welcome to our forum. I see you have made 5 posts at the time I am posting this reply.

My first suggestion would be to get yourself one of the DVD's available on Secrist.com. This will answer a LOT of questions in starting your reborn. It will "show" you how to mix paints, apply, what paints to use, and how long to bake & at what temp. Another option would be a reborning book also available on the website or other reborning websites.

Next, I would suggest that you use our "search" feature at the top of the page in the red bar. Just click on the word "search" and type in your word(s). I will bring up all the threads that contain information on that subject!

As far as the baby fat, there is a lot of controversy on it because when it comes into contact with or near the vinyl, it causes oily and leaky vinyl. You can find this subject in our forum also. And the only vinyl that needs an internal wash is the Secrist vinyl as it is made translucent like a baby's skin. A lot of people (including me) use poly pellets and polyfill, some use glass beads in a sealed pouch. If you do use the babyfat, make sure it is in a sealed bag and is not close to any vinyl to avoid damage. That doesn't mean in time it won't react within itself and go bad.
