I am working on this doll I really like her. I know that she is not fininshed I would love some feedback. Also I am having some trouble with taking photos. Is it harder to take close ups when you have a large zoom on a camera or is it just me?
she looks great , the only thing and this could be the camera is her lips. to solid of a color. but thats just me .i love babies like that with a lot of detail in the sculpt. keep up the good work. sage
Looks really good! Agreed on the lips as well, but very nice sheen on them!
I've found with my camera (Kodak Easyshare c875) I simply take as good a shot as I can, then crop the photo down to encompass the image I want. Once it's cropped, the image typically appears larger.
You want to take clear crisp pics. To take them indoors, use a more natural daylight bulb or you might get a yellow cast to your pics. Try putting the baby by a north-facing window. Take the pic with no shadow showing on the baby and you not casting a shadow by standing in between the light source and the baby. Also try with and without flash. Some cameras will wash out the subject if you use the flash too closely.
To take outside, make sure it's bright sunlight but do not put the doll in the sunshiine. Put it in some indirect sunlight so there are again, no shadows. Try it also in bright shade but not dark shade.
To work with a lightbox, take some white foam-board and make a semi box with 3 sides. Cut square windows in each of the sides. Then take a white sheet and drape over the sides. Put some lights on the outside of the box with the sheet over it and shine them directly in. Pose your subject carefully, put your camera on a tripod if possible, point, and shoot. Again, try it with and with out flash.
What I teach my students on AA baby lips is to make the outer rim darker and have the inner section lighter, using at least 2 colors of a lighter hue. Too solid a lip makes the baby look more like a doll and usually gives the AA's burgundy looking lips. If you want to leave them the way they are, you can just put in some highlight strokes with a lighter color. Darker in the lines and crevaces, lighter in the raised areas. :)
Hope this helps :)

Wow thank you so much everyone. When I was making this doll I was wondering if she was aferican American. I think I ended up making her look bi racial instead. Is it to late to fix the doll's lips because I put the glaze on?
If it's the Aleenes' paperglaze, it's kinda too late. but if it's Genesis, nope, you can still do it. And she can still be considered an AA, just with the lighter skin. So she's still an AA then, especially with the lips that color. And of course she can still be a bi-racial too with the skin that color as they are all tones. so it's up to you what you call her. :)
