Just an update, as his surgery was cancelled on the 4th, it has been rebooked for the 18th. Hold my breath. He is 1st on the list, unless there is an emergency. I will be asking for a bed for him as last time he had to sit in a chair with his crook hips and was in agony for 2 days after, not to say I didn't have a sore behind myself. XXXXX June.
Got a message left on my phone they are post poning it untill the 25th, well I tried all day to call them and no answer, We have show day here in Brisbane and they all have the day off. So First thing in the morning I will be ring and telling them NO, change the man they put in his place untill the 25th, don't know how I will go. Sam is so depressed again after I told him, as I was trying to get it sorted without him knowing. Thanks all you lovely people. XXXXX June.
First thing in the morning they are going to get aphone call. I can't handle much more of this. They ring you and make arrangements, I do the sameand then how knows what, where or when. I feel for Sam, I wish we had enough money for private health. But when you realy need it, you don't have to use it they put you in as a public patient anyway. XXXXX June
I'm glad they changed their minds on the switch June. Did you have to twist many arms? ow ow ow! Its better to be sooner I think. You guys are in my thoughts.
Ya, Iknow what you mean about the insurance thing. Buff is being forced to retire (it's either retire or get layed off). They are being gracious (hahaha) enough to "let" us have the retiree insurance but its $1300.00 USD per month! Where do they expect someone to come up with that kind of money when they are pushing you out the door of your job? I think they're daft! And I can't get any private insurance to accept me because I have "pre-existing" conditions. They only want you when they think they don't have to put any money out on you!
But keep us posted hun and tell Sam to hang in there. I know it must be scarry for you both too, how you explained what they are going to do.
NO! Not Buff being laid off, too! I KNOW what you mean about the cost of insurance. I don't know what's going to happen to any of us. We're on COBRA until the time and/or money runs out. I don't want to get political here so I will try to bite my tongue, except to say that US voters need to "lay off" the elected officials in Washington who have goofed everything up. A one-party super majority is bad for us because these people pass anything they feel like. I think gridlock is so much better. LOL.
On a positive note, I thought the new Obama healthcare forbids insurance companies from turning people down due to pre-existing conditions.
The likelihood of getting another job is almost zilch right now--especially, at our age. With the new laws here in the US, it supposedly costs an employer almost twice as much as a person's salary to hire.
June, my thoughts are with you and Sam. I feel so sorry for Sam having to have his procedure delayed. I can sure see how it would be hard to have a positive outlook.

That insurance forbidding thing won't go into effect until... are you ready for this... 2014 for Pete's sake!!!! I can't wait 4 years to get insurance.
Well I tell ya what... I would forgo the 401K at my age and everything else if I can just get a job with a decent salary and health ins!!!
And with Buff being 64 already, he probably won't be able to get another job. Of course, he knows how to do a lot of stuff (drive forklift, make tools, build things, teach, aircraft mechanic, etc) but he's been teaching aircraft mechanics now for 34 years and there have been so many advancements in all those other areas. Everyone wants that piece of paper from a college or trade school. He says he's too old to go back to school now! I don't blame him. I know he's gonna have a breakdown after he isn't allowed to teach any more. he basically built that shop and the curriculum, that's his baby and now it's being taken away. I know we'll survive (if the ins payments don't kill us off) but he can only stay busy putz-ing for so long.
Maybe I'll turn him into a gardener! I'm trying to get him to look at making/selling little pull behind motorcycle trailers. He made ours and it's not only functional, it's cute hehehe
Good on him Pat, I don't know if you have weekly markets over there, but every Sunday here some where the is a market where everybody can take their crafts, second hand goods, ie, clothing tools, you name it. Anyway my daughter and I are up at 5am in the morning to go to one, over here they are called flee markets.LOL. She's taking all her 's and her daughter's second hand cloths, in VGC. I'm taking reborns and porcelain and some of Sam's demolition lights from various jobs. May make another sale or if not, get someone else to teach. Here's hoping......... Sam turns 65 on the 3rd Jan, and I will be 64, in Mar. Then I am entitled to Old Age Pension. I pay everthing out of the pensions, each fortnight a little extra on each bill so that I am always in front a few dollars, then I know what is left over for the rest of the two weeks. We had to stop health insurance some time ago it was out of our budget, so we have to depend on the public system. I did twist a few arm's and it paid off. XXXXX June.
I think it awlful Pat that there are forcing him to retire based on age. People just don't /won't understand that just because a person is of advanced age that it doesn't mean they can't do the job. I could understand if he had alot of medical issues or something of that nature but just beacuse he reached what society "thinks" is a time to retire is crazy. People are living longer then ever now a days and unfortunately retirement plans just aren't enough to sustain a comfortable lifestyle anymore. My fatherinlaw was in the same boat, it's heartbreaking to see how they have to pinch pennies to make ends meet. On top of it all he's health took a nose dive soon after he had to retire and the cost for his meds are through the roof! I hope things work out, I like the motorcycle trailer idea! I often tought how nice it would be to have something like that for our road trips, just not enough room in the saddle bags LOL.
