I am new to this (and newly obsessed) and am intimidated by the idea of rooting every strand. My niece and I worked off and on for 3 days to root a 6 inch baby. She turned out pretty well, but now I am in agony over whether or not to root my Zoey. She is a gift for my mother (who likes bald babies) and I'd like to do a very realistic "bald baby" rooting. Any ideas on how much time would it be for an average person to root a premie sculpt?
Rooting time depend on so many things. On average (provided the needle and mohair co- operate with me lol) I can root a preemie head in a couple of days, rooting about 3 to 4 hours a day. But this depends on how much hair as well. Sometime it takes me longer, when the mohair and needle are being stubborn and just doesn't want to catch and root like the one I'm currently rooting. I have the top and one side done and it's taken me about 4 hours however it still needs a bit more work in those areas. Her head is a bit bigger than a preemie and the hair is sparsly rooted. you can see the progress so far under "Justin-WIP)

It depends on if your needle and mohair will work together.. lol I know Tina I am their too. I can root a preemie head in about 2-3 days working along the 3-4 hour a day. I have a day job so It takes a little longer than most! But it's excellent when finished.

That makes me feel a bit better. As long as I have an idea of the time, I don't get so fidgety about it. I did purchase tiny needles - I figured that I would rather it look better and take longer. The rice in the head trick is very handy!
As far as retirement, I am going back to work full time for the first time this fall (my girls are 4 and 8) so I feel like retirement is a lifetime away. I'm just going to have to tuck reborning into those quiet moments when my children are asleep and my husband is watching NCIS
You could always do what I do... when I have a lunch break or something, I just get out a head and root where I am. It makes for a great conversation piece too! I just put the head, hair, and rooting stuff in my bag and take it with me. I even rooted on a trip up North (while my hubby was driving of course) lol
I don't really have anything to add to the rooting time discussion as I think I am slower than almost everyone in the entire reborn artist universe. But... I did want put out the welcome mat, and tell you we're glad you joined the forum. There are lots of really nice and helpful people here so please make yourself at home.
