After waiting far to long for the mold making process to finish, the prototypes of my 'Hope' kit are finally on their way! I can't wait to see her reborned, will show pics as soon as i have them I read a post somewhere on this forum but can't find it now, someone was asking how you get to reborn a prototype, so i thought I'd tell you how I chose mine. I know all 3 of the ladies doing mine, I met them all at a show, one of them was on the stall next to me! 2 of them are quite successful here in the u.K, not wildly so but they do quite well, and most importantly I really like the way they reborn. The 3rd is an online friend who was very supportive to me throughout the sculptng process, and who encouraged me to go for manufacture. She's not a well known artist but i like her work and hopefully doing a prototype will give her sales a boost. I was thinking about that post though, and my friend and I had an idea. We were thinking of running a comp for everyone who buys a Hope kit to send me photos of their finished dolls. Myself and a couple of talented reborner friends would then pick a winner and that person would get to do a prototype of my next kit, and maybe a free kit for the runner up. Would like to hear your thoughts on that idea? Provided i sell enought o cover my costs this time i will definitley be doing another, probably early next year. I'm planning to sculpt a full sized very detailed newborn for the Collii awards, and will be maunufacturing that sculpt into a kit.
I may wet my feet..much sooner than I thought..sculpting is my next ballgame..I am around babies quite often...I really want to sculpt one of them..not sure which one yet...either I got the talent or I don't..there is no in-between...at least I may explore
Abby, I think that idea is brill! I for one can't wait to see your prototypes reborned into babies. I'm sure it would be a difficult task to choose someone to reborn your prototype. You do have to like how that person reborns in the first place. Congrats to you on your trail of things to come. I'm sure you're kits will be a big success. :)
Great! It's a funny feeling, knowing that my little baby will be made over in so many different ways, I really can't wait to see how she goes. Also, I'm not sure whether I should make her a lmtd edition or not, will that make her more appealable? I really need to cover my costs on this one so I can do another!
I wrote all about this last night and then my computer acted up again and I see it didn't post, darned computer anyway! grrrrrrr
So... what I think I said was, when Danielle Zweers got her first kit made (after she wasn't with Secrist) she had them made a LE of 250 worldwide. She paid for everything herself like I presume you are Abby. I have 6 of her kits of Isabeau, and she's a nice, extremely well done kit. But I think after all she still has some left, even though I'm one of the US dealers. I have kit #1 or #2 for myself and she even signed them all for me. The others are in the 60-70 something numbers. So they're low number kits anyway.
When Secrist made Danielle's first set of mini 6" babies, they were a LE and sold out before they even got them in. So I don't know what to tell you on the LE part hun. I think it's something that need some extra thought (IMHO)
the le is a cool idea but it seems like its the people selling the kits second hand that make the big cash from an le .but that may just be how it appears. sage
I hope you have unprecedented success! Unless it's just an awesome sculpt and/or you have someone very well known reborning a prototype, I think it's a challenge to sell a kit. I think you would need as much exposure as possible and lots of advertising from dealers. I still have kits in inventory from some lesser known artists, and they are cute but not selling.
I'm so happy you are pursuing this because you have such a gift!
Linda
