Hi, my name is Anna and I am a 12 year old reborn artist wannabe I was recently on eBay looking at starter kits and a secrist 17" preemie kit popped up, I was wondering if this would be good for my age and level of skill ( lol wich is nothing XD)
I have done several oil paintings and have completed the monart art school curriculum, taught by Karen Price, and reborns have allways been very interesting to me, though I have never had one
If you're talking about the Secrist Zoe kit, it's a good one to start with. I was able to do it with no training whatsoever (not even art class) just by following the DVD.
annie reborning is realy only as hard as you want it to be, you start out just being happy to be able to get the paint on,then gee maybe i can do eyebrows.as long as your happy with your baby thats the important thing. my daughter 17 made a zombie baby that her friends think is so cool. sage
Hi Annie and welcome to our family forum. You're going to love it here, just ask anyone. We have several young people who are reborners and they come back and ask questions all the time. As soon as they feel confident enough they also answer questions on forum. Be sure to pay attention to the rules (especially for posting pics and links :o )
I think the Zoe kit is just perfect for newbies such as yourself, even for older people who want to give it a try. As Liselle said, be sure to follow the DVD and you'll be just fine. We will be excited to see your finished baby in the artist showcase. If you have any issues after watching the DVD (sometimes you have to watch it several times) you can come back and ask questions (but you don't have to wait till then either) and using our search feature is good too. Again welcome!
Welcome to our forum, Anna. There are several forum members who are near your age as Buffington said.
Zoe is the ideal kit for you to start with, and the DVD provides the guidance needed to get started. Be sure to ask if you have questions. One of the quickest ways to get information is to conduct a search for answers. Just click on the "Search" link, enter a keyword or phrase in the resulting box and search.

Welcome Anna! There is no age limits for reborning. Great for the young and young at heart ;). Everyone here is friendly and very helpful i just know you'll feel right at home.
Well I've decided to just collect reborns until I am at least 14 and my attention span is longer and the finished doll will come out nicer *wink wink* lol I have found several babies that I have fallen in love with but I was wondering if any of you had any advice for shopping for reborns =0).
Maybe that's a good idea to wait for a while. It does take a bit of attention to newborn these babies well ;D
As far as shopping for them, I would ask questions of the artists. Like what is the filling, what are they weighted/stuffed with? It should only be fiber or polyfil, weighting pellets, glass beads. NOTHING ELSE! No sand, aquarium gravel, rice (oh yes, I know someone that used rice!), no metal pellets, etc. People use all kinds of things to stuff/weigh their babies with and most of it is either bad for you or the doll, or illegal to use to ship overseas. I know I may sound strict on this (and I am) but I'm trying to save people grief in the long run. Food stuff (like rice) will not only rot over time but will also draw bugs, YUCK!. And the metal (like steel shot, etc) will rust after a while even if you don't put any water or wet stuff on it. And gravel or aquarium gravel is just WRONG as far as I'm concerned. Do it right or not at all. Sorry, I'm rambling, but you asked hun...
Ask what kind of paint they used inside (if any). If it's acrylic then you run the chance of bruising when the paint moves through the vinyl. It can take a looooong time for it to do that. As what it is painted with on the outside. What kind of hair. If they used any kind of "baby fat" in it (there are still issues with that). And then just see if you like the baby. How it looks and feels. :)
You are so welcome hun, any time. :) And don't be a stranger here in forum. You can post when you like even if you're not reborning yet. And the research in here is fun, just type something in the search window and then read to your heart's content! HUGS

I usually do glazing gel on the eyelids of sleepers, maybe a little shiny in one corner of the mouth, and no shiny in the nostrils cause babies nostrils are not wet and shiny as a general rule lest they are sick.
I am starting with that one as well. I have sent off for some supplies, I am going to embelsh Zoe. I hope it works out. I am very satisfied with the quality of the doll to start with!
I was sure I answered this but cannot find it. What i thought I said was that your baby looks wonderful. She's very lifelike!

Thanks hun. He's pretty comfortable with the other babies in the nursery so I don't mind. Since he's actually an "older baby", he doesn't have the mottling, he's a "peaches n cream' complexion baby. And I rooted his eyebrows (not a great job but ok anyway lol). And I painted him with the JoSonja paints. He's a year old now and paint is still ok. :)But they were harder to work with than the Genesis.
They weren't very hard to do either. Just gotta make sure your hairs are pointing in the right direction, otherwise they look pretty wild. They just go all over :o
