Ooooh, I've been using Sculpey for years to make jewelry. I'm not so much a sculptor as a crafter, but now I really want to try one of these! A fairy would definitely be a good place to start rooting, since there really doesn't have to be a pattern to their hair. Fairies have crazy hair! LOL
I posted some on this topic in the sculpting topic.
If you are adding ears, you might want to pre-fit them while molding them and then set them aside. Next I would paint, then on the last trip to the oven for paint cureing, I would put the ears on, paint them (they need very little paint) and then bake. After that I would root the head (being careful of the ears) if they come off you can always glue them on as they'll be shaped to the ears already, and that way you can make sure you go round them so the hair looks good.
Well folks ." I DID IT " i made fairy ears and they're on the baby.i'm rooting it in dk fawn alpaca. i made them before i put in the eyes and after i painted. not going to say the're the best ears ever but i did it, YEAH. the stuff i used was from joanns fabric .99 cents, we'll see how they hold up. sage
Liselle, with your Sculpey crafting background, you may find your niche by making a fairy baby.
Oooooo.... can't wait to see your fairy baby, Sage.

liselle, glad to hear you are going try fairy ears. just don't get frustrated --- you may have to redo them afew times, i kept trying to get them Perfect but then i came to my senses-- they are my first ears the important thing was for me to like them and to get them on the baby. scrists guide book 2008 or 2009 has a nice tutorial on doing fairy ears. i just ordered some plastic shapers to use on my next one. yes i'm going to do it again. as to the funky colors check the mohair postes-- i put some tabetian lambs wool in wild colors pics on there. morezmore on ebay sells it.soooo soft sage
