June, are you privey to some info that I am not hun? I don't know that they are "recalling their oily kits" persay, but they have advertised for quite some time on their website that they were replacing oily parts if people wanted to send them back to the factory. And I believe there was a time limit on that but it was for a long period of time. Now I think they are just working with individuals on a case-by-case basis. But as far as "recall", I don't think so but I'll be certain to check on it for you hun :)
Like Buffington, I have not heard this. I haven't talked to anyone at the factory in awhile as I was trying to allow them time to catch up. Please PM me with what you learn from them so they don't have both of us contacting them about the same thing. Thanks!

I checked with the Qld supplier today, it doesn't sound too good Mr Secrists, I have at least 8 babies that need replacing and they say they have to be cut up and photos taken of them and then they will exchange, but didn't know about postage or if it applies to us buyers. What about the work that went into them and the paint we bought to do them and the mohair, does that get replaced too. I think for the time and effort we should at least get a little compensation as good faith. Sorry to be a pain, but it is upsetting when you cant sell them and the work you have put into them, and the promotion of Secrists that I have told everyone about, buy from Secrists, their kits are lovely to work with and buy Genesis Paints, DVD's and the like. XXXXXX June. PS, I will email Mr. Secrists and ask for an explanation.

I totally agree with you. I hope you get a good resolution to the problem.

June, I will send you posts to the customer service rep and see what information I can get for the forum. In the meantime you can e-mail them too for clarification on it if you like. :)
In all honesty June (and anyone else with an issue like this), Businesses (at least in the USA) will usually only replace the item that was faulty. It is just what businesses do. The other things (in our case, like painting and rooting) are not in the scope of their coverages. Like when they replaced the bad batch of mohair that was seeping color onto rooted heads. They replaced the faulty product. I believe there is somewhere in US law or statute that states they only have to replace the faulty item, not other things that are out of their control.
Secrist has always been fair (IMHO) and have always strived to have the best customer service and take care of their customers.
I'm just letting you know that it "might" be like this, I don't know because I don't run the company. It's totally up to Mr Secrist. This is why I have copied and sent the entire thread from you June. I will get a response and post it here!
Thanks Pat, I have been so busy for the last 4 weeks with porcelain doll making every day and up untill 3 am this morning so they could have them finished, to take home to South Australia. I'm so tired as I had to mow a largeback yard today also as I wrecked the ride on. XXXXXX June.
I can rest a bit now as I will only be doing some for my Granddaughter as well as making 8 Porcelain Easter Eggs for the 8 Grand Children, Zane's three girls where here this weekend and the older two poured them and picked the ones they wanted so I have them to do and Macey's ever increasing Strawberry Shortcake Family, We have Swweet Dreams Stawberry shortcake only needinf nails, Lemon Merangue, needing her eyes Painted, and I found another on also needing her nails and eyes painted, then it's body making at night. The Ladies finished their 8 dolls and 1 head and hands last night, Chris's husband was very pleased with them. I forgot last night to take pics of them all finished, so will get Chris to bring hers back after they are dressed and take some and get her sister to send me an email of hers finished. XXXXXXX June.
Those porcelain easter eggs are fun (if not tedious) if they are the ones I have the mold for. Lacy and all, pretty nice. I have not glazed any but did dry-brushing on them.
I'd like to see the pics of your lady's dolls in showcase! At least you get to relax a little ;)
Ok, here is the response you have all been waiting for from the office:
"The good news is that Last year starting in January we started making a new vinyl that is non toxic, phthalate free and oil-free. Its harder to make but it should never get oily using standard reborning techniques. If anyone still has oily parts then we will take them back and exchange them for the new guaranteed oil-free vinyl kits. Simply contact us at support@secristdolls.com and tell us what oily kits you need to return. Then pack up the parts and send them back to us at: Secrist Dolls, 2040 E. Gordonville road, Midland, MI 48640. Were sorry but we can only apply the warranty to the oily kits. This is government policy and applies to any warranted products.
If they want to save the shipping cost getting them back to us then heres what you do: Take a high quality photo of the doll kit that clearly shows the oily surface of the vinyl. The photo needs to show what face and limbs are affected so that we know what kit to replace. Then cut each part in half and take another photo showing the kit now cut up. We need to be able to tell what kit was cut up so be sure to have the important features of the cut up kit facing the camera. Send the photos to us along with your name and address. The photos must be clear enough for us to see what kind of kit it is and that it has an oily coating. If we cant see these features then we will not be able to replace the kit. We will replace your oily kit with exactly the same kit. So if you had a Taffy then we will send you another Taffy.
*If they want to keep your doll or kit then heres what you can do. The oil can be easily washed off with Dawn dishwashing soap. Then the parts can be sealed with our Shine Remover/Sealer. When this is applied correctly the oil should be gone for good. We offer a free set of sealer/oil-remover soap for those who want to keep their dolls, remove the oil and seal the vinyl. Be sure to heat set the sealer.
*For those who have experienced oily parts we are offering a special one-time discount on any of our new oil-free kits, Authentic Reborn paints and Angelic Touch mohair. They can buy as much as they want and receive an additional 40% off our regular prices. This discount applies to one order only so they should order everything that they want on that one order."
If you have any questions, you can always post on this or ask in the e-mail you send to customer service. Hope this helps (especially you June) :)
