Paint not staying put
Permalink

Hi There!

I started kit baby Trey by Michelle Fagen and am having a heck of a time!! Wonder if someone can help me!! I can't seem to get past the veins. I apply the paint and when I go to blot it with my cosmetic wedge the paint comes right off! I have tried to let it set a little while but it still comes off. Has anyone had this problem and maybe someone has some options for me to try?? Been on this for almost a week with no luck. Haven't had this problem with the last two babies I've done! Hope someone can help me with this. I'm about ready to put little Trey in the closet and start on a different baby but really don't want to do that. :)  Thanks!  New Mommy

I had the same problem with my first kit, in the end I used the paint without much thinner, that worked for me. Working on my second kit and haven't had the same prob so must be a certain type of vinyl that doesn't like blue!

sometimes it shows up later..after you have a few steps done.  I hold it up to light to see.  Most likely it will go on if the brush is dipped right in the blue paints.  If it just does not work,  wash the kit in warm water with dishwashing liquid.

I have been told and have tried to put my kits in the dishwasher to get of any oily release agent, this may help with your paint staying on too, over here in OZ, we do a couple of coats of colour correct or skin tone before we do the viens, this way if they are too heavy or thick, they are easily wiped off and able to be reapplied. Doing them after the first couple of washes seems to be the way to go. You never know untill you try. XXXX June.

I tried putting the doll parts through the dishwasher last week.  After the wash, I let the kit dry.  Then I lightly dabbed some alcohol on the pieces and they dried.

I just tried painting the kit, and I really like the way the vinyl is taking the paint.  I really think the dishwasher.  I'm not sure whether I owe the success to the alcohol or .the dishwasher or both.  I just wish I had thought of the dishwasher a long time ago.

I got an e-mail from Secrist stating what I had thought already... it's not the dishwasher persay, it's actually the hot soapy dish detergent. They strongly suggest hot soapy dishwater with Dawn dish detergent. It has a grease busting chemical in it so it removes the grease/oil from most kits. I'm still not sure about putting parts in the dishwasher. Wayyy too hot for me but if it works for you all it's your decision. Problem is... with the dishwasher it probably won't get inside the limbs well and then you still have oil in there.

You're welcome :)

I did also post in another thread (misc chatter I think) what I got from Secrist's office regarding the oily vinyl and how to cure it. Go see!
