Trying to get ahead in life hehehe. Sorry, couldn't resist that one!
Anyway... Here are 4 pf the babies I'm working on (Sweetie Pie, Kelly, Erin, and Annie). I was trying to have one of them done for the contest but I didn't make it with any of them. I have till the 11th when I start back to college so I'm working on them to get them done hopefully by the end of Jan lol
I am using Secrist Angelic Touch mohair on 2 of them (as you can see in the pics), one I'll use some curly kid I'm waiting for, and the other one will be my angora goat hair from one of my hydes. We'll see which one(s) I like the best lol I decided whille waiting for the new year the other night that Kelly would be a blonde. Don't know yet if it will be boy or girl till I see how the hair comes out. What do you think? I started with the blonde AT mohair and so far I LOVE it! Looks like Kelly might turn out to be a little blonde "boy" but when I get all/most of the hair rooted I'll show some more pics of that head so I can get your opinions.
The first pic is a group shot. I took all of my pics inside, under my "Ott" light which gives off natural light, and without my camera flash on. Then I did head shots so you can see the over-all face. Then close-ups (as close as I can get without becoming blurry) so you can see their eyebrows. The last shot is of the beginning of my swirl. I always make the coloring on the head a little darker as it gets poked with the needle so much and it makes the coloring lighter. I do some stork-bites and a little darker veining too. But that's just how I personally like to do it.
Their eyes are just set in, not glued as I may change their positioning. I still may do something on their lip tone (lighten, darken, highlight, etc) so they are not done either. And I think, now that I have them all lined up, I may do some additional shading in the nostrils.
Please feel free to make comments on them as sometimes we are too close to our own work to see if they need anything. I do appreciate real critiques on them, not just the usual " they look fine" comments lol hehehe. I promise I will not cry over negative comments :)
I love ALL of your babies. I am slightly partial to Sweetie Pie. I started on Sweetie Pie but quit because I wasn't happy with him/her. Your Sweetie Pie, however, is awesome and I have fallen back in love with that face so I'm inspired again.
I didn't like Annie's eyes looking to the side until I saw your Annie.
Anyway... I just love all of this latest crop of cuties.

That's what happens to me when I get time off from college lol, I just gotta be doing something busy! :o
Thanks for the compliments on my babies (heads). I fell in love with Sweetie Pie when I first saw him and so ordered 4 kits right away. It's nice to be able to work on him (yes, I think the first one will be a him). I'd love to see some pics of your SP. I'm glad I can be of inspiration. I think all my babies turn out looking quite the same, I mean I can tell by the technique that they're mine. hehehe
With Annie's eyes, you have to take time with them if you're going to turn them. I did the back insertion because of the shape of the eye openings. When you position them you have to not really look at the vinyl eye part, just the eyeball itself as the eye openings are very different on the ends. What I mean is that the eyeballs might look wrong or positioned funny but it's all an illusion. Just look at where the pupils sit as far as vertical positioning between the upper and lower eyelids, and the highlight from the light for the horizontal positioning between the inner and outer eye corners. She'll look cross-eyed but she won't be really if you pay close attention to those 2 things. Its all a matter of getting the eyeballs to match each other.
I am still rooting Annie and Kelly. Rooting always takes me the longest. Sometimes over a week to get the hair right. Oh, I'm such a perfectionist! :o But I did finally figure out the swirl on the hair! I've only been rooting for over 4 years for Pete's sake, hmmm. I'm kinda thick that way I guess :/
Pat, i just love your babies! the only thing i can say to change on them is, i think Erin's eyelashes are i tiny bit long...but hey, if that was what you were going for...okay by me! i agree with what you said about the swirl, i think it is very hard and i have only been able to do it once! i think my favorite of the four is Kelly, i've really liked that kit and i think she maybe my next. haha, i know how ya feel with the multi-tasking after doing the quads i thought i could give myself a break for a while but, here i am again, with two kits i'm still waiting for my dvd to come so i can start Lulu....i'm almost done with Bunny, (she is a 6 in mini that i got from hobby lobby). can't wait to see when you're done!!!!!
Well I'm not so much with name of The kits, but with porcelaian I can pick them easily. Pat you have been busy and as one commented on the lashes, I believe that you haven't finished them yet and they are to be trimmed back, nice rooting on them.Love all the skin tones and maybe the lips may need a al little more done but I think they look OK. With the eyebrows, Some of them may need a few more stokes closer to be in line with the tear duct. I just posted, Rule of Thumb before I read this. It is about positioning eyebrows. But over all I love all Babies. XXXXXXX June.

Hehehe, thats very funny. Seems thats the only thing I left out of what I still needed to do, trim the lashes waaaaay shorter lol hahahaha.
I think I'm going to try to snap a pic of Kelly & Annie with their rooting in progress...
Both of those colors of mohair are the Secrist Angelic Touch mohair. I think I'm in love! There is hardly any waste at all and once you wet it (I didn't even condition yet) it's so nice, soft, and managable!
Pic #3 is supposed to be the swirl. I think once I put more hair there you'll be able to see it better.
It helps a lot to click on the pics and enlarge them. I noticed that Kelly's eyebrows are over too far toward his ears (oops!). And I'll definately have to put in lots of little light colored hairs so they are lighter. Maybe I'll color correct them first! :O I know where I "should have" put them but I was so excited when I got them to look nice that I must have gotten carried away hehehe.
Isn't Kelly cute as a blonde? I think "he" will be such a cutie when I'm finished with him. I'm going to put him in an old fashioned bubble suit if I can find one. Maybe with knee socks and white high top walkers! OHhhhhhh I just can't wait, I'm so excited!!! Can't tell can ya? hehehehe
And my little Annie... well, she's gonna stay a girl. A little dainty girl. I like the hair color I chose for her. It's like a warm brown with auburne in it. It really matches her eyebrows. Now I just gotta find lashes to match. I'd root them but they don't really stay curled up where they belong when I do it. And it's hard on their eyelids. Maybe I'll put this cute little green pleated dress on her. I'm doing her with 3/4 limbs. Should work out nicely.
You know... after all the time I spend in school all semester, it's really nice to get back to my babies. I love rooting even if it is time consuming for me, but it's very relaxing and I can do 3-4 heads without breaking a needle! First head I did I broke about 10!

Couldn't you put some mouse on them and wind them on a wooden kabab scewer and then heat them with a hot hair dryer, then cut them. Would that work. Love the boy, do you always do the crown swirl first? Then work towards the back? XXXXX June.
I can't do the lashes that way hun. I'd have to put the scewer (sp?) ummm... I don't know where I'd put it. That would be kinda funny, babies getting their eye lashes curled hehehe. I know, it wasn't funny, I'm just a little daft tonight! hehehe
Thanks June, I like the boy too (Kelly). I usually do the swirl first and then go from there out to the front and sides. I just did the front first so I could see how he looked. Then I went back and did the swirl so now I'll just keep going from the swirl out to the front. Although some say it's easier to go from front to back because you're not catching the hairs on the way back. It's harder for me to hold onto the head with the front done. My hand keeps slipping on the hair. :(
I find it easy to go from the front in. LOL, What you mean you might have to put the scewer up his kiber pass. OH well just thought it might be worth while, I perm my mohair (grey) for my old stockman, and made a wig and beard on his head and face. You may be able to get a small amount of perm from Hairdressers and straighten the mohair. Just another hair brained idea. LOL... XXXXXX June.
Oh, thank you Abby! :) Actually Kelly is going to be a boy (I'm pretty sure but now I don't know). It all depends on how the hair turns out when I'm done and cut it.
I just love that curly blonde hair! I have a hard time finding curly mohair. Even when it says curly it's mostly wavy =( Great job on all of them though, I too am partial to sweetie pie!
Isn't that hair great Tina? I love it. Its the Angelic touch hair from Secrist. I was surprised at the curly too! I am waiting on some curly from someone and I'll let you know when I get it and how it is after I check it out. Don't want to get everyone going on it if its not something special you know. But if you want that curly like mine order from Secrist. I'll have to see how curly it gets when I'm done and cut it. Might or might not be ok. We'll see. And thanks for the compliment on my babies *blushing* lol
I will have to try the Secrist Angelic touch on my next order. Yes please let me know how you make out with it once you cut and style it. That's usually when my disappointment hits and it loses all the curl =( Hoping yours doesn't, what a sweetheart she's going to be with that curly blonde hair!
Ahhh, I see what you mean. Very nice job on your heads! I love the facial expressions, they look so real! I mean really cute, it looks as if they are listening to what someone is saying. Great rooting too! I like your brows because they look there but not sitting on top of thier faces (if you get me?). Hummmm I think next time I will do shorter and longer strokes and take more time doing them. But nice work!
Usually if the hair is this curly when long it will be really nice when cut and styled. Also, I use a razor comb to cut the hair so there are no blunt ends. New baby hair doesn't have blunt ends. So I'll keep you posted on the curls lol
Thanks for the compliments on my baby heads Emily :) When you do brows (and there are a few misc posts on brows) make your longer ones first. When you are satisfied with those, bake them. This is the basis for your full brow. Then make smaller, finer brow hairs inbetween those, bake when you are happy with them. Then go in and fill in little hairs again to complete your brows. For me it's a 3 stepper. You can also add different colors to make highlights and also thick medium to make them appear 3-D.
Thank you so much for the tips. Very helpful for me as I can never seem to be happy with the brows. Painted hair? God bless you I want to try the fine baby hairs around the hairline but I will not try the whole head of hair. Not me. Can't wait to see your baby.
