This is my first with eyes and the first with removing factory paint and sanding off the hair lines. I've named her "Punkin". I was just itching to paint a whole torso and these chubby little babies are so cute. You can't cuddle them tho and I did not weight her. I know you can do a cloth body, but I wanted everything attached. She was great fun do reborn. Any comments are welcome. Thanks. Hugs, Sandy
She is too cute! What a beautiful face! I have done one Berenguer, but didn't have the courage to do anything but a wig. How did you sand down the hair ridges and what did you do to get the color even with the rest of the head? I tried sanding the head with a dremel on my baby, but it seemed to change the color and texture too much from the rest of the head. Melinda
Hi - I used a dremel and sandpaper and a quick coat of acetone, then tried to match the scalp to the rest of the face. But it does not really match perfectly. I had trouble getting the vinyl smooth around the "sideburn" area, so it is a little rough. But since I'm not selling babies yet, it's ok. I don't even have a nursery name. Thanks dearies for the kind comments. Hugs, Sandy
What needle did you use for the hair, and did you need to warm it in order to keep from breaking needles? The rooting looks terrific from what I can see.
Newborning a doll from a kit ought to be a breeze after successfully reborning this cutie from a ready-made doll.

When I was using the dremel, I made sure to thin the scalp so the needle would slide in easily. I didn't have to warm the head and I used a 38g. single barb, which is really quite delicate. No broken needles, but a couple of bent ones. Geez, I sweat blood over the kits, probably because I've spent more $$$ on them and I've seen a prototype and know how good they can look. I'm starting on a expensive one next. Thanks, Sandy
Oh my...I have to give it to you..she is just adorable. I have done two of the Berenguer triplets and just have the boy left to do. I have given the girls the soft body. I intent to fix the vinyl body with holes or punch holes down the sides and this way you can put the body around the soft one if one wants to do that. I just hate the thought of taking that little boys hoo hoo off. lol. I'm sure that's why he's been hiding out for so long. I'm not really happy with the soft bodies only on the tops of it. There is a very small space for a joint but the arms just don't look that great. I will have to post a picture of them and the body that I used.

I started sanding the hair lines on mine. WHEW! Over three hours and it's still not 100% smooth like a regular kit but I think I may be happy with it as it is. Lines are all gone as far as I can see but I'll have another look with fresh eyes in the morning. Hats off to everyone out there who loves reborning berenguers enough to do this all the time!
Sandy..I have two questions...hehe.(that way I'll remember to ask the 2nd one if I don't forget what it is. Crap...I already forgot..oh yeah...are those the factory eyes or did you change them? darn it (keep forgetting)...oh yeah...is that a real baby with that huge cat on it? Viv

I think that's a 17-20" kit not a real baby, I don't think? :o And even at that, I think that's a really big cat like my Niko, he's 17 pounds! He only lays "by" the babies not on them lol! The kitty looks comfortable! OOO squished bub! I'm being silly here ;)
I know that if some of the Berenguers have the light hairlines, some people just root the hair without removing the lines, using them as a gilde for the hair swirl. Problem some have had is the vinyl is not evenly thick in all the places on the head so sometimes the needle holes will make the vinyl weak there or it will break needles. But good that you didn't have any of those problems :)
The doll is Secrist Jamie and is 17". Tucker is a big cat, not a 17 pounder tho. His favorite past time is eating. He is particularly fond of sleeping on the kitchen table, which I am using for reborning because it is under a skylight. IT IS HIS TABLE. HIS BABY BASKET. HIS MOMMY. HIS REBORN. In fact, everything in the house belongs to him. He has the ability to triple his weight if I want to move him. Aviva, I changed the eyes. Hey, I picked out and registered a nursery name: "Serendipity Nursery". Sandy
Go to "Life Like Reborn Artists Guild" (LLRG) and follow the instructions. You end up sending a email to the administrator. This just registers a name and is not membership in the guild.
Terrific!!! we had a picnic day, wit the special company of birds and ducks... it was so nice to share with old friends and delicious food! and the day was beautiful! We saw the moon at 5pm altough the sky was clear. Fantastic!
The Berenguers all pretty much have harder heads. It's good to put a hot rice sock in the head when you root them,. It makes it go better and you don't break so many needles! I know some sand off the hairlines and some don't. If you sand them off you have to be careful as the Berenguers heads are poured thick and thin in areas and are not very good. I like to leave the lines on as then you have a guide of where to root ;)
We have very cold today about 11 degrees ferenheit and tonight it will be our coldest night of minus 14 degrees below zero! Brrrrrrr. I think high of 2 degrees tomorrow :( But January is our coldest month usually, February/March are the snowiest.
