Painted Hair
Permalink

I was wondering if anyone here has done painted hair instead of rooting and the techniques you may have used.  I'd love to give the painted hair look a try.  I've heard of some using the prismicolor pencils.  Just drawing them on (no water) and letting in set a couple of days to set in. Has anyone tried this yet?

Hi Tina

Yes  I have done a doll with painted hair and he turned out lovely. I also used the prisma pencils and they work great. Just keep the tip sharp to be able to draw fine and crisp strokes. By the by way its alot faster than rooting but I prefer the rooted mohair. But again not all babies have hair on their heads.

Give it a try and decide for youself.

Hugs

I'm like Ronel, I like to root the hair, even though it is my pet hate. But as for the pencils, I have been told that after you have finished you can put a thin layer of Matt varnish over the top and bake as per GHSP. Hope this is a help. XXXX June

I like the rooted look as well but I have seen some beautifully done babies with the painted hair. So you wet the area before/after using the pencils or do you just apply the pencil and let it set a day or two for it to sink in? I want to try at least on with the painted look.
Thank you for your input ladies!

Tina I didn't wet the head at all. Just draw the hairs on the dry sculp and I used the heat gun on the head but I left it any way for a two days to set. Plan your hair style before you start .

Tina,
I recently saw a beautiful reborn on eBay that had painted hair. The artist used a combination of GHSP, watercolor pencils and matte varnish.

Heres the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=250429390100

I have carpel tunnel syndrom and just started to learn to root. It's gonna kill me, so I am looking for alternatives to rooting other then using wigs.

I guess I will be doing alot of experimenting.

Michelle :)
