Making full legs and pulling them out of the molds has presented Secrist with many challenges. Since they do not use silicone in their vinyl, this makes that very difficult.
I can ask again if there are any plans for this in the future since they changed the vinyl formula a while back. This might lend itself to better flexibility, but I'm not sure. Silicone gives the vinyl way more flexibility but since Secrist wants their kits made in the USA to be "NON-TOXIC" and stay that way, putting silicone in the mix will change that.
Unfortunately, more silicone in the mix would mean yet another type of paint, and my budget is stretched as far as it can go without breaking.

Linda, you can still use the Genesis paints on the vinyl/silicone mix kits as that is what over half of them on the market are anyway. Just not on the full silicone as they need silicone paints, and not on "plastic" as in some of the older play dolls. So it wouldn't make a difference otherwise. The only thing that would be different is that the kits would NOT be non-toxic as the silicone used is toxic itself when heated in the oven.
I thought I could use Genesis paints on silicone/vinyl also. However, the paint does not adhere well to some of the blends that have more silicone. I have had cases where the paint comes right off. I had this happen once on a custom job when the doll was almost finished and the paint just sort of flaked off in one area of the face. I ended up having to repaint the area trying to mix different paint to perfectly match and make the job look seamless.

i'm haveing trouble with a spot on little crickets foot, ,it's in a blushed area it looked like there was never paint there but it was in the center of the blushed area.i took acetone to it and tryed reblushing but he ended up looking like he has a bobo on his foot(see artist showcase) help......... sage
It might just be a select few kits or manufacturers. Most of my non-Secrist kits (except for the German made kits) are all vinyl/silicone mix. I have not as yet (and hope I don't) have any problem with the paint doing anything weird. Sorry you had issues. There might just be too much silicone in the parts. :(
a member of the forum gave me some advice, she said to strip that spot and go over it with a little matte varnish this gives the paint something to grab onto. another reborner does the same thing with kits she get from dd, espceialy under the chin. everyone is so helpful, i'm very lucky to be on this forum. sage
Yes, we are definitely lucky to have so many wonderful people willing to share in this forum. I think I have learned far more than I have taught. And there's no substitute for the friendships we've formed. Or should I say "forumed"?

I think it is worth the try, but you will need to make full limb body slips too. Also, the limbs need more detail in the hands and feet..More creases and wrinkles
They have tried. That is how they know they can't do i t without adding silicone to the mix, and they won't do that for safety's sake. But I do agree... they will also have to have the bodies made, and more details (especially on the feet.
