Memory foam??

Hey,  I was just on ebay and was reading how this lady did her reborn. She used memory foam placed around the glass beads and sealed in nylons in the limbs and also in the body (not glass beads..don't think she said that..but poly pellets.  I haven't heard of this, but this might give the same feeling as those EXPENSIVE foam things that are over 20.00 for two to use in one doll. If we used that, on top of paying 69.00 for a doll and then $60.00 on clothing...how would we get anything back?   I know not all dolls are that, but I paid 80.00 one time for a kit and I MESSED it up.  besides..I should have returned her, because I thought she was weird looking, but they can make them look so darn cute in those pictures.  Do you all ever have that happen...They look adorable...you get them home and then you know why they looked so cute.  beward if head is tucked down and camera is like an overlooking shot.  I know...I need to look for the vinyl photos.

I like to look for the pictures of how the kit blank looks before anything is done to it. Then I look at the pics of one reborned.
I know that with PG dolls, they would mislead people (probably why they went out of business, amongst other reasons!) and they would put up either the prototype pics or the pics of the artists original doll (which mostly didn't look like the poor thing once they copied them). I bought a few dolls from them that looked really bad and ugly (poor things) to me when I got them. So I know what you mean :o

As far as putting the memory foam IN THE LIMBS OR HEAD...I say "DON'T DO IT (IMHO)!!! No one has any idea of how it will react in the long run with the vinyl. Kinda like the baby fat pellets! No one knew until some time down the road after it had become popular and then it was too late for some of them!!!

Ya, depending on how a doll is done, it can get quite expensive to complete one. And it can be quite difficult to get all that back plus make a profit!

Welcome Cindie,

Plastic pellets are wonderful to use in the babies! Use them with poly stuffing for a great feeling baby. :)

NO, do not use any kind of sand, aquarium gravel, metal beads (can you tell people put a lot of weird things in their dolls?) or anything like that. Each one has it's problems.

If they don't have the pencils in the book, try the website, I know they have some pencils on there. Otherwise try your local art/craft store where they sell better colored pencils (prismacolor).

We won't probably be e-mailing you answers, that is what the forum is for. You can come back here to forum to read the answers.

i know that sometimes to get the best look is the most expensive. for me, instead of buying the the plastic or glass wieghing beads, i use simple bags of rice in a pair of tights or socks and polyester stuffing in my dolls. i think it works nice and it's only about and dollar per pound. i also like that it doesn't take up as much room so, you can get a lot of it in. i hope this helps someone!

OOPS! Sorry to burst your bubble hun but rice is "food" and at some point will deteriorate or it will attract bugs (whether the small hard-shelled ones found in some flour products or other types). It's never a good idea to put ANY type of food in your babies.

I had a student do that and the doll got bugs! They just came from nowhere and started eating the rice (minute rice but none the less, rice). They burrowed right through the body to get in! YIKES! It was a total disaster. And problem was she had already sold the doll to a customer!

When I first started making porcelain dolls, that's what we used to use and I gave it to my sister. Years later, when washing the cloths, she found holes in her body, it was those creapy crawly little weavels. Rice and flour should be kept in the fridge so they cant develop. We also used vermiculite, which is a very dangerous fibro product. So please spare the expence when making your babies and use good quality materials. ie. glass beads and poly pellets. Remember they are going to be an heirloom one day. XXXX June.
